They didn't have big studio backing is a big one. Andromeda did. ME1 is of course dated now but I think their conversations were still pretty immersive for the time. But with Andromeda, they have the big money, they have the technology. It's EA. It's just that the shit studio they outsourced the work for facial/cutscene stuff (IIRC) did a horrible job, and instead of taking time to polish it they just mailed out the shitheap. --- |

| Doe 03/31/18 3:19:47 PM #15 | Synchro was a good addition and Pendulum is a really balanced mechanic (it was only ever an issue because Konami wrote some archetypes or individual cards really OP effects, people who complain about Pendulum are like people who say Synchro is broken because of Tele-DAD'd Stardusts). Xyz really broke Yugioh, I mean it literally changed everything. Anyone can Xyz and Xyz effects quickly became stupidly good because they dropped cards being balanced by running out of material like Utopia or Acid Golem. They were pretty restrictive with Links at first but it looks like there's already a ton of them now and they haven't even broken Link-4. They can go up to 8 and they will because it's Konami. Link summons are a ticking time bomb before they are completely dominant over the meta. They transcend Xyz by letting you summon more extra deck monsters and of course you can't Xyz or Synchro off of Links. Pendulum died for this meta --- |

The new rules added two new monster zones called extra monster zones and each player can control one. Monsters from the extra deck can be summoned there. A Link Monster has arrows on it pointing to other zones, which can become more extra monster zones as a result. Firewall Dragon has 4 arrows, in a D-pad formation. That gives it potential to both be summoned directly into the original zone and work magic from there, or in a zone in the original monster zone. It's ability is that once while on the field, it can target monsters in the field or graveyard up to the number of monsters co-Linked to Firewall Dragon (meaning other Link monsters whose arrows point into Firewall's arrows), and return them to the hand. It also let's you special summon from your hand whenever a monster it points to is sent to the graveyard. This is deceptively REALLY REALLY good. Because it means you can send other Link monsters to the extra deck and well as useful monsters to your hand. Link Monsters only need monsters sent to the graveyard to summon them (up to how many link arrows they have), so this means you can do ridiculous things. It can get pretty silly now, I'm sure, but the card used to be unlimited. Meaning you quickly got multiple Firewalls into play. A guy came up with a combo where you needed like just two certain cards in your hand, and if you had them, you could perform a chainplay using your entire extra deck of fifteen monsters. And that was when a lot of the cards in the combo were generic Links because it was early on. So it would probably be even more broken now except they limited Firewall. I haven't seen the solo Firewall combos and I'm in a car right now but banning might be a little much? Firewall retrieving Firewall or shit like that was where concern for big loops stemmed from. --- |
