If she was instructed by the police in any way to ask them to expose themselves, then any attorney worth his salt should be able to successfully appeal it. Is there really nothing better that these cops have to do, than to set up entrapment scenarios to catch people with momentary lapses of judgment and who succumb to temptation that is only there because of the police? On the other, the DNA was given willingly from one person, and the discarded DNA from the killer likely came from a straw or utensil. Once he was under surveillance, all the investigators had to do was follow him around until he ate at a restaurant, and then collect his garbage after he left. At the end of the day, the bad guy was caught. And the use of DNA evidence has greatly helped people over the years (being cleared of charges and such). Also, I'm really curious how the police initially acquired the DNA sample from the person that did the genealogy test. Was it required that the company upload all their samples to a state database? Now that this has been found, anyone who hacks their Switch will be able to backup their saves, while also having a breath of other options that will eventually become available, legal or otherwise. Meanwhile, people that don't, are still susceptible to that whole 'one hardware failure, and all of their saves are lost' problem.
