Don't turn using your keyboard. You turn much more slowly. Instead, hold right click and turn that way. In the same vein, backing up with the S key is much slower than simply 90 degrees and strafing left/right to go "backwards." You can strafe left and right by holding the right mouse button and going left or right.

Yeah, when the tutorial popped up with that control scheme I found it really cumbersome and was thankfully surprised that the mouse method worked. I have KOTOR to thank for that (since I first used it there, and then SWTOR had it, so I figured why not try it here).

For hunters specifically, open your spellbook and look at the bottom for your Pet tab. For some reason, Blizzard hid a lot of pet abilities in there rather than putting them on the pet bar. You can arrange them however you like on your pet/action bars, but the one you should look for is called Growl. This ability is autocast on default, meaning your pet will taunt enemy mobs, forcing them to attack it. This is useful when you play solo because the enemies are attacking your pet rather than you. In group content, however, you want to make sure you right click this ability to turn off its autocasting. Tanks tend to dislike aggro going all over the place because hunter pets keep stealing it.

Gotcha, this will be important information going forward. I dunno if I'll get far enough that I'm grouping with other players but knowing this is valuable. I appreciate it!

Update: I made a Hunter and I'm playing on the 'Normal' realm/server of Cairn. What I want to know is why the "new player" servers are all PVP :/ Oh well.

It's interesting how the game just sort of tosses you right in. There's like 20 seconds of intro dialogue and then you're asked to kill 8 worgs. Right out the gate, fetch quests. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, it is an older MMO so it'll be more utilitarian than something like SWTOR. I'm only level 6, but I got a cape and it looks neat :D

I will say that I've seen some really awesome looking mounts just in the starting area alone. My favorite was this phoenix looking mount that glowed gold and purple and left colorful trails in its animations. Very cool.

Anyone got more advice? I heard being a hunter class was actually a pretty useful beginner's class.

Lol if what you care about is more story and lore oriented stuff then XIV is definitely better in that regards since they put a colossal amount of effort into it

WoW is better if you care about stuff like PvP tho

I really don't care for FFXIV's art and aesthetic. I am a fan of Final Fantasy, but I just couldn't get into the game.

If you're going to play though, I suggest choosing a high population realm so you can interact with a lot of people. To this end, chose like

If Alliance, choose the realms: Dalaran, Stormrage, Moon Guard, or Wyrmrest Accord

If Horde, choose the realms: Area 52, Blacrock, Dalaran, or Illadin

Thanks...although, I mostly plan on playing by myself - at least, starting out anyways. I always prefer to solo in MMOs, as antithetical as that typically is with the inherent concept of the genre >_>

This is primarily what I'm hoping my experience with the game is. I'm not about trying to build the best class, or min maxing my character. I just want to explore the game, get lost in its world, and maybe find some neat gear along the way.

dont take my post as a statement that WoW is a bad game, because honestly playing WoW might be my favorite video game experience of all time.

its just that you have to slog through 110 levels of content, which sounds cool but the leveling experience is very bad at this point and needs a huge overhaul. it's really unpleasant if you dont know what you're doing & dont have any heirlooms.

my suggestion to you is that if you are having a good time with the game and like how it is and decide to stick with it, pre-order Battle for Azeroth (latest expansion) and then use the level 110 boost on your character.

Thanks for the advice, I might do that. We'll see. I never used the character booster option in SWTOR...but then again, I'm aware that game has dedicated single player content ala the stories for each class, so there was a reason to push through the grind. I'm not aware of any such dedication for WoW.

Well, I'd like to do vanilla WoW but Classic isn't coming out in the foreseeable future and I'd like to prop current WoW up against some of the other stuff I've played. I'm aware MMOs are more of a meta grind and don't necessarily start until you reach a certain level or the end game (which usually coincide together), everything else beforehand is just whatever.

But I mean...I dunno. I'd like to see how things are, what it's like. I mean, if I don't like the game I can just not spend any money on it. I'm trying the starter edition for the time being, anyways.

Stick of Truth was kind of like an apology or whatever to Chef. You could tell by the time of the game's production Matt and Trey had worked out whatever bad feelings they had for him by that point. In the game's final section the boys are trying their hardest to wake Chef out of his corruption or whatever, and Chef does so and sacrifices himself so that the boys can live on.

-Assuming you don't mod the game to allow for saving any time make sure you always have at least one or two Saviour Schnapps on you at all times so you can save if need be. Some of the autosaves are fairly wide apart.

I thought a patch made it so you could save and exit at any time, now?
