I also don't think Sony and Nintendo ever truly got over their rivalry. They were incredibly bitter enemies in the mid to late 90s, maybe even more so than the publicly perceived rivalry between Nintendo and Sega in the early years of that decade.

Nintendo fans were much more harsh about it.

Well, that's what I'm saying. Nintendo has been something of an outlier in the last 10 years or so. Ever since the Wii, Nintendo has done things more and more outside of their competition and it feels like they're more their own thing than part of a tribal competition between Sony and MS. It's funny, because just earlier this gen it was Sony using Nintendo as an ally against MS, and now MS is using Nintendo as an ally against Sony.

This, these things are cyclical. I'm still not sure why people are surprised by it. MS was the big dog last gen after capitalizing on Sony's abysmal PS3 launch and then as the gen went on Sony caught up with better consumer practices or whatnot and MS got fat and lazy and got complacent. Start of this gen, Sony capitalized on MS' equally abysmal One launch and positioned themselves as the 'go to' console for this gen.

And now it's happening again. Sony is letting their hubris overgrow them once more, while MS has worked tirelessly to shed the image they cultivated several years ago and become the game console for gamers once more. You watch, come next gen we're gonna see Sony fuck up their launch and MS capitalize once more.

I feel like I don't know you anymore. We never talk, we never hang out, and I can't help but feel like I'm being left behind. I feel like, as your friend of some 17 years or so, you don't care about me anymore. Or maybe you haven't in a long time. Maybe us living together was a bad idea, and maybe that soured our friendship. But Andrew, I've always thought of you as my friend. Maybe you haven't of me, but I have of you. It's just that every communication between us in the last several years has felt superficial, when you took the time to actually respond to me, that is. Everything about us has felt vapid and hollow and nothing has felt real in a long time.

I can't think of the last time we've had a real conversation. I'm always around if you want to talk, but you never do. I can send messages and messages for days, and almost guarantee that maybe a fraction of the time you'll reply. Andrew, I didn't even know you were dating anyone until you casually brought it up on this site...and we've been friends for almost 20 years and you didn't tell me. I just...I don't know you anymore. And I wish to god I did, because I don't know how much time I've got left and I would love to know that the very few sparse friends I made over the years aren't going to just forget I existed, but I feel like that's what's happening right now.

I just miss you, and I really don't want you to leave. but I feel like the friendship we had is slipping further and further away, and I really don't want to lose you. I don't know if you're afraid to talk to me, or what, but...I...I don't know, anymore. I almost feel like you've been holding back who you really are around me, and I've suspected as such since the time we were living together. I don't know if I can handle who you really are; you know me, I'm so goddamn terrified of change that I wish I could just keep everything in a box, frozen. But I'm making this plea because I feel more afraid now than I have in years, and I'm even doing it here so as to, hopefully, draw a response out of you.
