I'm not sure it was exactly a month ago but the same thing happened to me. Turned out to be a conflict with my antivirus. Ultimately I had to download an installer for Windows 10 and do a reinstall, not a clean one, just an "upgrade".

The Pro Controller is expensive, but that's how it goes. How's it compare to a wired third-party? I never trusted third-party much but these days the console makers license them, and USB could mean computer compatibility, for what it's worth.
I also would consider buying a Wii U Pro controller for my existing copies of Hyrule Warriors and Mario Kart, but those aren't that cheap either.

They said there are directional air-dodges, and also that dodging decays somehow on use. Directional air-dodges in Melee are what allow for wavedashing, and the changes to dodging could make the game more offense-heavy.

I haven't played 'em but it seems extremely "not the same" to replace the beginning of a series with gameplay lifted from a much later entry. You don't get to see how it evolved. Yes, they're janky PS2 games, but my point stands.

You know what I don't like a lot of the time? Attacks that just don't work. Like in DBZ, someone attacks Frieza and they think they got him but when the dust clears it turns out he's not even scratched because he has a bigger number. That's something you see a lot of in DBZ, or at least think of when you picture the cliches. I think by the Cell Saga they work on the formula so it doesn't happen to quite the same extent. It's fine if they throw up a barrier or something, or do something more tangible like withstanding punches, just not being naturally immune to giant energy beams from lower level fighters. The fakeout isn't even convincing. Nobody believes that a random Namekian just vaporized Frieza before Goku could get there.

My two faves, not having played much else, are Abyss for an actual kind of good story, and Graces for excellent gameplay. If you don't like anime tropes, Tales of is honestly not your series.

I do like Abyss and Graces more for various reasons. The one that comes to mind in Vesperia is that every excursion seemingly required more than the item cap of TP-restoring items. You might say that your special moves are meant to be limited, but you don't have much else to keep it interesting in Tales of.

I guess it's not that close a comparison. I meant it in terms of when you subvert a trope that doesn't make practical sense, it makes an impact the first time, but if you keep subverting it enough then you just wonder why anyone's acting like it should hold true.

Worst things: Regional card rule system, drawing 300 of X, unconvincing romance, general cryptic sidequests and lack of balance, overwhelming customization from the very beginning

If characters routinely didn't respect talking as a free action, for instance, then it wouldn't make sense for everyone to continue attempting it. Plus it'd stop being as funny when they didn't respect it.
