TopicSomething fundamentally simple that confuses me about climate change deniers
pinky0926

Their argument they have doesn't seem to be limited to just the temperature of the Earth as caused by humans. Many of them extend that denial to say that human beings do not have any widespread negative impact on the Earth at all; if creatures are dying they're simply just not strong enough, nature will find a way, there are millions of animals left everywhere, yada yada.

But then these same people - and I'd put money on it that if you were to draw a demographic circle the overlap would be near perfect - unironically defend hunting, because (and this is their absolute most favourite and defensible position - "Hunting is a necessary mechanism to control the destructive behaviour of deer on the ecosystem."

So to recap. We need to kill deers because deers destroy all the flora which kills all the fauna. But we don't need to moderate human behaviour such as levelling rainforests and throwing all our plastic shit in the ocean, because animals will figure that shit out no problemo.

I'm sorry pinky is drunk but you get my point

He went away on leave this week. He's not going anywhere, he just wanted a week off.

On day two he came back into the office to look at his computer. Brought his wife in and everything. Spent half an hour here saying he needed to "sort out the computer, it's been bothering me". On his day off.

Then we realised he had diverted his work phone to his mobile. So any clients calling the office would get straight through to him. He did this intentionally.

We've since noticed he's responding to the chat in Slack (messenger app). Guy is sitting in a coffee shop somewhere by himself responding to work banter on his week off.

Don't be like this guy.

No. When I get downvoted it's usually something I saw coming before I posted so I stand by my comments.

This.

For one I very rarely post on reddit and could give a crap less if I'm downvoted

I can really only remember being downvoted twice recently. On one occasion I recall being downvoted, it was for giving a not so popular opinion on domestic violence where I had proof to back up and prove my claims. People argued with me, I showed them proof of what I was purporting, and ultimately they didn't even try to give rebuttal. They just told me I was wrong.

The other time was when I called a girl a brat for being mad at her sister in law for "ruining" her wedding when her sister in law objectively did nothing wrong. Some people really didn't like that.

On another note, @pinky0926 I actually saw a post of yours a few weeks ago on the instantkarma sub. I checked to make sure and sure enough, it was you.

Sure it was on instantkarma? What was the post? I can't even remember posting there but it's certainly possible. I do post a lot and seem to get a lot of karma sometimes.

which rarely happens unless you're posting on some fandom sub maybe. And if you're not happy about it, you can go to another subreddit. Eg. hate the liberals on politics? then go to /r/the_donald then

It happens all the time. Any time an article from /r/news or /r/worldnews or /r/politics hits the front page you can bet that it will be full of self-congratulatory posts by people who barely took the time to read the thread title, nevermind the article. You can bet your ass they have an incredibly superficial understanding of the situation as a whole. And those people will be upvoted by thousands of people who are equally ignorant and misinformed.

If you've ever seen a topic on reddit being discussed that happens to be your area of professional/personal expertise, you can appreciate just how much nonsense is spread and congratulated on that site.

This is reddit's biggest problem, in my opinion. Not only does everyone get a voice (that's like any message board), but the importance of the voice is determined by how much the rhetoric appeals to the userbase.

the very design of reddit is meant to filter out trolls. It's not as easy to make alt account since subs regulate karma entrance. The downvotes are there to show how unpopular or stupid your topic is. It has its cons, obviously, but it does a good job at filtering OUT THE TROLLS.

It also does a good job of filtering out discussion, dissent, anything that the masses determine unsavoury. The upvote/downvote system allows a bunch of idiots to drown out a literal expert and make him look like the stupid one.

Depends. It's less the comment karma I'm worried about and more bandwagon idiots stopping by to say something toxic and unnecessary because they want to get their shot in. We're not talking about a very low caloric deficit because I've repeatedly implied slight caloric deficit, not starvation mode, but putting that aside

How do you suppose you reverse the obesity of a person without them eating less in some regard? How do you suppose their body can possibly become smaller will maintaining the same amount of energy input and perhaps only a marginal increase in energy output?

Remembering that obesity in itself is a massive health risk, of many times greater a magnitude than marginal thyroid problems

Awesome is peddling this bizarre nonsense frequently it seems, it's weird. He's talking like everyone has cystic fibrosis and a thyroid disorder.

Counting calories might be destructive for people with eating disorders such as anorexia. It's also not necessarily going to be that effective if you have a rare condition that effects how metabolise food. For everyone else it's a good way to get a handle on how much you eat and to meet your training goals.

As a general point, 1300 calories seems like a really small amount unless you are a small woman and you're not doing any exercise.

That's a really odd goal for that game, as the best possible equipment for characters is determined largely by what Battle you are attempting to fight. Penance for instance requires totally different equipment set-ups than all the Dark Aeons.

I had all the different gear setups for those special battles and a general one that was suitable for most enemies. From memory it was a 4 piece armour set that gave you auto-revive, auto-potion, auto-shell/auto-protect (depending on character) and auto-haste. Was pretty OP for pretty much every enemy except penance and marlboros.

That game remains the most perfect JRPG experience I've ever had. I sunk maybe 3000+ hours into that game. I played it over start to (near) finish maybe 6+ times. On one playthrough I maxed out all my characters and got the best possible equipment. I'm not even a completionist but that's the most work I've ever put into a game.

I've been trying to recreate that experience since, with no luck. I tried Tales of Vesperia but didn't get into it. Xenoblade Chronicles was maybe closest, the world was amazing and the storytelling good, but I didn't feel the same level of progression or depth with the combat. I wasn't quite as attached to all the characters, only a couple of them were that interesting to me. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 so far has failed to grip me. The combat/item system is so convoluted and I think they throw too many things at you at once.

Any recommendations? I'm considering Octopath Traveller but the story seems pretty naff.

TL;DR - Queen always, always wears a brooch of significance when visiting/receiving guests. Usually it's a mark of honour to the guest or something celebrating the historical relationship. The meaningful brooch thing is a big deal, she's been doing it for like 60+ years. So when Trump visited, she wore a purely friendship brooch gifted by the Obamas. Not even a brooch of political significance that celebrates the American relationship. Just a plain little friendship brooch they gave her that's not even supposed to be for state visits. (Plus some other subtle brooch related digs the following days).

Also Trump was 12 minutes late for tea. Wtf.

*Btw if you're a big lad I would not recommend Uniqlo. They're more your underweight asian man territory.

Uniqlo is a decent proposition for basics in the USA, but IMO too expensive in the UK now. Essentially their clothes are decently made and totally uninteresting, but serve well if you need to pad out your wardrobe with more t-shirts, work shirts or jeans.

H&M is a good starter place to buy clothes. Again not the most interesting stuff out there, but you could easily buy a whole wardrobe of stuff here and be considered well put-together, if unremarkable. When I first started getting into style I bought a ton of shit from H&M and looked pretty decent. The caveat is that their clothes are not the best quality and tend to fade from washing quite easily, and ethnically they're a bit shady if you care about that.

Just cold wash at <90F, don't tumble dry, don't dry in the sun.

In summary both are incredibly cheap and will kit you out in very reasonable inoffensive outfits, but if you want to be a bit more fashion forward at a cheap price point you'd want to look at something more like Zara.
