I'd use Reddit if the format was like this.

No. Reddit actually limits the negative karma you can get from one single post/comment.

Depends. It's less the comment karma I'm worried about and more bandwagon idiots stopping by to say something toxic and unnecessary because they want to get their shot in. I have no doubt that there's a significant portion of people on reddit who coast through comment sections just to find downvoted comments and reply to them.

Up/down voting is really stupid. Makes communities feel very bandwagon-ish.

I've only ever tried to post on Reddit a few times when I thought something really needed to be seen by as many people as possible. Then it would get instantly deleted because I didn't have enough points of whatever to be allowed to post.

I tried posting an officially produced video of the staff of Orange County Corrections in Orlando literally dancing in front of jail cells ("because dancing is funny! And we can have fun, too! While we put people in jail"), but I guess I have to post a handful of fucking cat pictures and pretend my fake girlfriend baked me some Mario cupcakes first.

Awful site, awful mechanics, awful boomer community.

No. When I get downvoted it's usually something I saw coming before I posted so I stand by my comments. It really is funny how upset some communities get over the simplest things. Latestagecapitalism and blackpeopletwitter are some of the easiest to throw into complete chaos. Sometimes you get banned from subs without ever posting there

the very design of reddit is meant to filter out trolls. It's not as easy to make alt account since subs regulate karma entrance. The downvotes are there to show how unpopular or stupid your topic is. It has its cons, obviously, but it does a good job at filtering OUT THE TROLLS.

the community is far better than most sites, such as FB, Yahoo and Youtube. I'd say only Quora comes close. The community at reddit is far more globalised as compared to this site full of jerkish Americans only. Might as well call this board 'American Affairs'

It also does a good job of filtering out discussion, dissent, anything that the masses determine unsavoury. The upvote/downvote system allows a bunch of idiots to drown out a literal expert and make him look like the stupid one.

I hate when they go off topic, or the "herp derp funny" post gets upvoted instead of the posts thats actually trying to discuss the OP lol

This.

For one I very rarely post on reddit and could give a crap less if I'm downvoted

I can really only remember being downvoted twice recently. On one occasion I recall being downvoted, it was for giving a not so popular opinion on domestic violence where I had proof to back up and prove my claims. People argued with me, I showed them proof of what I was purporting, and ultimately they didn't even try to give rebuttal. They just told me I was wrong.

The other time was when I called a girl a brat for being mad at her sister in law for "ruining" her wedding when her sister in law objectively did nothing wrong. Some people really didn't like that.

On another note, @pinky0926 I actually saw a post of yours a few weeks ago on the instantkarma sub. I checked to make sure and sure enough, it was you.

which rarely happens unless you're posting on some fandom sub maybe. And if you're not happy about it, you can go to another subreddit. Eg. hate the liberals on politics? then go to /r/the_donald then

It happens all the time. Any time an article from /r/news or /r/worldnews or /r/politics hits the front page you can bet that it will be full of self-congratulatory posts by people who barely took the time to read the thread title, nevermind the article. You can bet your ass they have an incredibly superficial understanding of the situation as a whole. And those people will be upvoted by thousands of people who are equally ignorant and misinformed.

If you've ever seen a topic on reddit being discussed that happens to be your area of professional/personal expertise, you can appreciate just how much nonsense is spread and congratulated on that site.

This is reddit's biggest problem, in my opinion. Not only does everyone get a voice (that's like any message board), but the importance of the voice is determined by how much the rhetoric appeals to the userbase.

Sure it was on instantkarma? What was the post? I can't even remember posting there but it's certainly possible. I do post a lot and seem to get a lot of karma sometimes.

Yep I just checked. You commented on a post about a robber that tried to rob a store but got beat up by one of the customers and one of the employees.
