The unfortunate reality is that a lot of Japanese people just don't get it. They don't get why their behavior needlessly harms others, and attempts to bring it up means you're rocking the boat. And boat rocking is unacceptable, so they are even less likely to listen.

Japan has crafted a society that is almost miraculously resistant to change in key areas.

Yeah, it's almost infuriating even as an outsider looking in. I'm willing to bet that quite a few Japanese people recognize the issues their society have, but won't or can't say anything about it, because it'd make the person look bad instead, and won't result in any improvements being done. Perhaps because there's still too many old geezers resistant to change running the country.

Here, children are taught the Japanese proverb: The nail that sticks out gets hammered in.

When Kantra was 2 years old, she ran up to a boy on the playground and asked him to play. The boy squared up to her like a boxer and swung, stopping his fist inches away from her smiling face. Children would flee from her as if she were King Kong. Kowai (scary), a girl said, gripping her mother like one would a life preserver to keep from drowning. Come on, lets go, Kantra said, pulling the girls arm. Its heartbreaking to witness her innocence denied.

Nearly every day, the message Kantra got was the same: Stay away. Through the years, Kantra learned to befriend mothers as a conduit to playing with their children. Now, shes about to finish her first year of preschool. She cant sit still and she constantly sings. Life pulses out of her. Its exhausting for me, but I dont want her to lose that. At school, she had to find her own way. She already knows that shes different. Im brown girl, she says. Im the same as Daddy, but different from Mommy.

Watching Kantra develop has further complicated my relationship with this country. As of late, Kantras been saying, Daddy, I dont want to go to school. I want to stay home with you and Mommy. Oftentimes on rides home, she doesnt want to tell me about her day. I cant figure out if shes just tired or reeling from a troubling experience.

In the morning, I make her look in the mirror and say, I love myself. I am smart. I am beautiful. I am strong. To confront an opposing environment, Kantra mimics my behavior. My awareness of influencing her turns my rage into an elastic band of patience.

After almost seven years, I have gotten used to Japan. Uncomfortable spaces have become familiar. I love Japan for giving me my family. We have a good life, and this country is beautiful. But for Kantras sake, were moving back to the U.S. after my wife gets a visa. She needs to be around more people who look like her. She has so much to be proud of, and shell never know it living here, where black people are seen exclusively through a Japanese filter.

I wonder how one would go about changing this? I know a lot of alt-right types would cry "diversity ruining Japan" or some shit at that, but children being treated like this for something they can't control is not right.

Yeah, the promotional material and anime are trying to push everyone being vegetarian or something, since I guess they realize that without real animals, that meat has to come from somewhere.

The Switch already has a few streaming games in Japan. I think RE7 and Phantasy Star are two of them.

I think it's a good idea, I'm more interested in subscription based gaming though like gamepass and EA Access

Japan also has the network infrastructure to pull it off.

In the US, it'll be a shitshow outside of metropolitan areas (and sometimes, even then).

A notorious child trafficker who ran a gruesome international cyberpornography trade from the Philippines will spend the rest of his life in jail.

Peter Gerard Scully, an Australian, and his erstwhile Filipino partner, were found guilty by a court in Cagayan de Oro City on Wednesday for forcing children to perform appalling sexual acts and torturing them while taking videos of the ordeal.

The 55-year-old foreigner was meted a life imprisonment for qualified trafficking. He also got an additional six years to nine years and 11 months for five counts of rape by sexual abuse.

His former live-in partner Carme Ann Alvarez, who allegedly lured female street children and young scavengers into their fold, also received the same penalty.

Each of them were ordered to pay a fine of P5 million, P500,000 as moral damages, and P100,000 as exemplary damages.

Judge Jose Escobido of the Regional Trial Court Branch 37 in Cagayan de Oro gave credence to the testimonies of the two victims who managed to escape from the rented house of Scully in the same city in 2014.

Merlynn Uy, officer in charge of the Regional Prosecutors Office in Northern Mindanao, considered Scullys conviction a welcome relief.

This is a very positive development and it sends a strong message to the public in general that our laws do not look kindly on human traffickers, she told Cebu Daily News over the phone. Scully, who appeared calm during the promulgation, did not issue any statement, she said.

He and his other partner, Liezyl Margallo, are still facing at least 50 other qualified trafficking cases in Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon and Surigao.

While most of the victims are from Mindanao, investigators said it was possible that Scully and his cohorts also victimized minors in Cebu and other parts of the country.

Its possible that there are also other minors who fell prey to Scully in other parts of the country, including Cebu, Uy said.

Scully, Margallo and Alvarez reportedly conspired in enticing poor kids to go with them. A video provided by the Dutch police showed a naked 1-year-old girl who was hung upside down with her hands tied and legs drawn apart.

The girl, known in the video as Daisy, was crying nonstop while being tortured and sexually assaulted by a masked older girl later identified as Margallo.

The attacker on the video repeatedly whipped the toddler with a belt, placed a duct tape on her lips to silence her cries and dropped hot wax from a melted candle on her private parts.

The film clip, described by the NBI as the worst video they have seen in their years of campaign against child pornography, used at least nine children, including a 12-year-old girl, whose remains were exhumed in Scullys apartment in Villa Corito, Surigao City.

Non-governmental organizations such as Bantay Kaso (Kagay-anongs Against Sex Offenders) are closely monitoring all cases filed against Scully and his cohorts.

Uy said the two victims aged 10 and 13 had a very detailed narration of the ordeal they suffered under the hands of Scully when they were detained inside the foreigners rented house in Cagayan de Oro from September 19 to 23, 2014.

They were sexually abused, bound by chains, and were even made to dig their own graves. They were supposed to be killed after the abuse. The good thing was when Scully and Alvarez went out of the house for an errand, these two kids managed to escape and immediately reported what happened to the police, she said.

It's a Platinum game so there's always a legal reason why it won't get ported or get a remake. Suda51 doesn't even have the rights to Killer7 despite being the executive producer.

Nintendo owns the IP and publishing rights, so they could easily commission Platinum to port it if they wanted to.

My favorite thing is how in those subreddits I posted, the top-voted comments are making the assumption that Smash 4 and Smash U will both be there. They're so used to having two Smash games at EVO (and at other FGC events) that they believe that Smash U is replacing Melee instead of Smash U taking both Melee's and Smash 4's place.

Yeah, if EVO is seriously going to only go with one Smash game going forward, Ultimate is the best bet of that. It's better for the FGC as well, since that extra space could be used for another fighting game.

Nothing's stopping Melee players from making a Melee-centric event in its place, even if it won't have the brand name recognition of EVO.
