They are in the sense that they met one time for about 15 seconds when Voldemort killed him. I think this has a pretty significant separation from the previous series.

They both have really unsubtle shades of Naziism (I think Grindelwald is even defeated in 1945), they both are evil fascist wizards who want to institute a master race policy, and they both have a direct connection to Dumbledore. I'm not saying Grindelwald is a 1:1 recreation of Voldemort or anything, but they're really similar and have similar beliefs.

I must be missing where this is about Voldemort, because he isn't even born yet in this movie.

Grindelwald and Voldemort are related storylines. I'm saying to do something totally unrelated.

I wish they'd done a new story unrelated to Voldemort, but eh. The first movie was alright. My main complaint about it was that there weren't a lot of fantastical magical locations besides the government building and Newt's briefcase, so I'm hoping there'll be some cool places in this one.

Also, it's surprising that Johnny Depp's career is still going when someone like James Gunn just got ruined.

Of all the things to keep from the last movie, I didn't expect 90s music to be it. Also, I think this makes Christopher Pike the most recasted character in the series, this'll be the fourth person to play him.

After seeing how dark and gritty this is apparently going to be, I also can't help feeling that Beast Boy doesn't really belong. Is everyone going to be shooting people and stepping on necks while Beast Boy turns into an Owl?

We don't even see him shapeshift in the trailer. Maybe he just gains the "aspect" of an animal or something and remains human.

My favorite piece of literature is Paradise Lost, but if we're talking about genre fiction, then it's probably Snow Crash. Written in the late 80s by one of the few cyberpunk authors who actually understood how computers work, it predicts a ton of things that came true in the future, the most important being the internet (though the details are predictably wrong). As far as I'm concerned, Snow Crash is basically the end of cyberpunk. No one has ever so thoroughly created and destroyed the entire concept of a genre like Snow Crash does, to the point where it ruins further cyberpunk books for me.
