Aww, I knew Life is Strange would be ranked low but I'm sad it didn't even reach the top 100. Still, disliking the characters would indeed make it difficult to enjoy (even if Chloe is the best character in anything ever)

Hearing you say this is surprising, though! I wouldn't think you'd want to replay LiS in any capacity. Still, its always nice to hear what people think of it after playing the first time so I hope this happens on some far distant day.

Episode Four was my favorite because it really felt like they put a lot of time and effort into it. A lot of prior decisions came back into play in neat ways as well.

I'd like to disagree since there's ultra-dark stuff in other media that I really enjoy, but I can't exactly point to any anime that proves it (Made in Abyss is the darkest anime in my top ten and right now I'd easily rank Yuki Yuna head of it, we'll see if that's still true once I finish it). I think it's probably more accurate to say that dark stuff has a steeper hill to climb than light stuff. I can get a base level of enjoyment from cute anime girls doing cute things even if it isn't being done particularly well (like Slow Start this season). Meanwhile, dark and serious stuff has a lot of pitfalls that can instantly degrade it in my eyes. There are the obvious poor world-building or nonsensical character actions (which simply matter less in a less serious story) but there's also pitfalls like when the story becomes so grim that it becomes a pit of endless despair. Madoka spoilers that was the trap I felt Madoka fell into. Other than few points in the movie, once Mami died I can't remember another legitimately happy moment. There probably were some, I'm not arguing that, but the lingering impression I have now a month later is everyone trying to kill each other while Madoka looks on with a sad look.

I started watching Yuki Yuna is a Hero (and I can confirm that Yuki Yuna is indeed a hero). I'm only halfway through the first season right now but I'm enjoying it a lot. This has almost everything that I felt Madoka was missing so if it stays good I guess I'll be the weirdo who ranks the copycat over the original inspiration. I love the fun team dynamic and how they're using their unique powers to support each other.

I'd heard this was another dark magical girl anime but I didn't understand why until they were all hit by physical defects after using their max powers once. Then I was like... oh... there's still six episodes left... oh damn this is going to get bad isn't it? The beach episode is next so hopefully they at least get to have fun there.

Also, the music in this is really good. I'm usually bad at catching background songs but I'm noticing these fairly often and they've all been impressive.

It's always fun to check topics on the anime board from years ago and see someone from here who posted in them. It was Mac Arrowny today in a GuP topic but I've seen others too (though I forget where).

Anyway, I finished Girls und Panzer. It was an immensely enjoyable anime (especially the tank battles, that last episode in particular was something special). I'm going to have to track down the OVA at some point and... Wikipedia tells me this is going to have seven movies eventually, I'm looking forward to those too!

The cool thing about GuP is how it doesn't half-ass anything. It doesn't feel like cute girl versions of tank battles, it's full fledged tank battles with cute girls.

Yeah, I'm enjoying this too. It would be nice if they were better at aiming but I guess there need to be a lot of misses to make time for exposition!

I did indeed! I'm only about halfway through Girls und Panzer but I'm enjoying it so far. It's mostly a 'cute girls fight in tanks' show that's done well, but the thing I'm appreciating most is the sheer absurdity of a setting where schoolgirl tank battles are the norm. What they're doing is incredibly dangerous but it's treated so nonchalantly that it never gets in the way of the anime fun times. Plus, in their first real match, when one of the tanks swerved into a store, the owner was getting hyped because that meant he'd be able to get a new store! That part was great. It's neat watching their tactics come together during battles, too.
