yeah, i should correct myself by adding that in some instances the picking and choosing of what you believe in is not baseless.

if you say to a christian "the bible says 'eye for an eye,' why don't you adhere to this?" and they reply "i adhere to jesus' teachings and he specifically said that this is wrong and you should turn the other cheek," that's not baseless. you're directly basing your beliefs on words jesus supposedly said in that instance.

however, if a christian says "well i'm fine with gay people so the anti-gay stuff in the bible is OBVIOUSLY outdated silly nonsense and not the word of god!", that's just a baseless claim.

yes. i get that when it comes to the anti-gay stuff in the bible, nowadays we have more christians saying "that's not the actual word of god, that's just something people put in at the time because they thought homosexuality was wrong" because homosexuality is way more accepted in our current western society than in used to be. but it still makes no sense, because they're still making assumptions about what the "actual word of god" is and what isn't that are based on nothing. you're just describing why christians pick and choose what they believe in, but this description is not an actual excuse for the picking and choosing.

basically what i'm saying is: yeah sure, you can pick and choose what you believe in. you can do whatever you want. just don't pretend that this picking and choosing is logical or rational or based on anything but your own assumptions or gut feeling, because it isn't.

no, the ones attacked by immigrants often don't report it either. my point is that you can't jump up and down and point to reports as "evidence" when the sample size is so small. you can't make a claim like "blond people like strawberries" when you've only polled 10 blond people. it's definitely possible that immigrants would still be overrepresented in sexual assault cases when we would have an adequate sample size, but at the moment there's no way to know. granted, women are talking more about being assaulted now (thanks to the #metoo movement), but it's still quite a taboo thing to bring up.

but even if i would agree with your statement that sexual assault is only a big problem among those monstrous muslims, then what? we should never bring in any immigrants at all because SOME of them are criminals? just let them starve to death or die in war? is this an example of those "christian morals" you brought up in stripey's topic? "love thy neighbour" indeed.

primus is a band i've never really gotten into. they're not bad, but i've always thought early red hot chili peppers did the whole funk rock thing better. not too big on this song either. i thought there wasn't enough interesting stuff going on in it to justify its length. also, i thought the mix was weird, with the bass being so up front. perhaps it was a good thing because i liked les claypool's funky slap bass playing and didn't care for larry lalonde's guitar playing, but it still sounded kinda weird. (wait, according to wikipedia lalonde used to be in a frank zappa tribute band? nevermind, he's awesome!!)
