Gotcha. Yeah, the books, while grandiose at times, are still good, imo.

I never understood how Mrs Dursley could be so horrid to her own nephew. She must have REALLY hated her sister.

also I notice the series stops showing them as he gets older. even though he supposedly goes back to them every summer, as the series progresses it just skips over that. I would like to see what his later teens were like at home

The movies stop showing the Dursleys as Harry grows up. The books were full of stuff, although since he always pretty much hated it there, he noped out to the Weasleys as often as he could.

Old article, but still relevant:

http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/jk-rowling-finally-reveals-why-the-dursleys-hated-harry-potter-so-much-10341021.html

JK Rowling has finally shed light on exactly why Harry Potters uptight Privet Drive-dwelling aunt and uncle disliked him enough to leave him languishing in the cupboard under the stairs.

Quite why Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia Dursley had such a problem with the loveable orphaned wizard is hinted at (they hate magic, she resented her sister's witchcraft etc) in the books, but has never been explicitly addressed until now.

Writing on her Harry Potter fan website Pottermore, Rowling has revealed the backstory behind the familys rift.

When they were in their final year at Hogwarts Petunia, who is Harrys mother sister, invited Lily and her boyfriend, James Potter, to meet her fianc Vernon Dursley.

"James was amused by Vernon, and made the mistake of showing it," Rowling writes. "Vernon tried to patronise James, asking what car he drove. James described his racing broom."

"Vernon supposed out loud that wizards had to live on unemployment benefit. James explained about Gringotts, and the fortune his parents had saved there, in solid gold, she continued.

"Vernon could not tell whether he was being made fun of or not, and grew angry. The evening ended with Vernon and Petunia storming out of the restaurant, while Lily burst into tears and James (a little ashamed of himself) promised to make things up with Vernon at the earliest opportunity."

She goes on to make clear that it is Vernons dislike of Harrys father and the boys close resemblance to him that fuels his animosity toward his nephew. It is a problem redolent of Severus Snapes initial dislike for Harry, who reminds him of his arrogant father and their Harry/Malfoy-style schoolboy feud.

Toward the end of the Potter books the motivation behind the stiff, unloving Petunias attitude toward Harry is hinted at by Rowling and in the Pottermore post she reveals she toyed with introducing a softer side to the character.

However, rather than creating a more sympathetic Petunia, and explaining more about how jealousy of her sister Lily prompted her dislike of anything out of the ordinary, Rowling decided to keep the unkind character as she was at the end of book seven.

I don't walk out of movies. I mean, where else am I going to go for the remaining time? Just slog through it.

Many TV shows start out good, but drop in quality. Sometimes their quality rebounds back up or just bottom-lines.

Dude. He and I are both Autistic, or rather high-functioning, assuming he's told the truth on this.

I put myself through college while collecting SSI. SSI helped pay for books, tuition, and rent/utilities since I was living with family. Graduated with an AS, sent out hundreds of job applications a month, and finally, after about a year since graduation, I got a job and a foot into the door of the IT department at a local company. Been working there for over three years now and been off SSI for about half since my initial salary was within the limit that SSI allowed. Once I got a raise, I was no-longer qualified for SSI and ended it.

It's a good job. Great hours, pays okay, gives dental/health/vision insurance, and I have a 401k. Gave me the confidence boost to earn my driver's license in 2016. Made a lot of new friends and helped with my future.

I'm not saying it's impossible or denying that it's hard. You just have to keep at it and eventually, something will work out. I've told him this, several times. I just don't think he cares.

well all I know is what my old therapist said once. that most people with austism don't lead successful lives. she implied that the average autistic person, even high functioning, is on government assistance for life. you might be a very lucky or just really determined exception, I don't know. not to discredit your accomplishments.

I'm sure that there are a lot of high-functioning people with Autism that are on government assistance for life. I don't know if I'm one of the few or just delaying the inevitable. I just know that I got here through combined efforts of SSI and my own efforts and I'm proud of this.

Honestly, if you need sources for *any* of that, it demonstrates that you've paid zero attention to political speeches in recent years which undermines any credibility you might have on political matters. And if you're using hostility to mask your ignorance on the subject, you're not really helping anybody let alone the cause you claim to represent.

Yeah, I get killing them would be inhumane, but isn't it also inhumane to keep them locked up under shitty conditions and torture? If Trump is as much a good Christian as he claims to be, wouldn't this contradict the very thing Christians are for; peace, love, and goodwill to others? Or is he only a good Christian when it's convenient for him?

Say what you want about Trump, he was voted in after a fair and square election

Democrats don't hate Americans. They just hate it when others put down other ethnicities and don't care about others or the suffering of others, like a lot of Republicans are notorious for doing. This country was founded on people from other countries seeking a better life and future for themselves and their family. Yet, most Republicans are fighting to kick out people who were born in this country and are being forced out just because their parents were illegal immigrants.

The basics; a perfect game is 300. Your average is just that. Your total scores added up divided by the number of games youve played.

I stopped due to money reasons right now. My company has cut overtime and is now putting us on furloughs. That with some personal stuff has made it so I cant make it all the time. So paying for something I dont get to do wasnt worth it for me.

Oh, the year my team won the overall season, I was the highest scoring Male in the house that night, and one of my teammates was number 2. I walked away with over $750 that night.

Ah, cool. Thank you for the explanation.

That makes sense, though. Losing that extra source of income is never fun, especially when it comes to trimming out expenses that can be cut without making huge sacrifices.

Wow! That's a nice bonus.

Bowling is come and go. Im only an average bowler with a 167ish. I was doing better at the start of this season with a 175. My highest series is only a 624. Im pretty erratic. But I started it as a way to get out and be social. To get to know more people and force myself into social situations.

My team did win the overall season a few years ago. So that was nice. And I came in... 4th I think in a bowler of the year tournament for my division a few years ago. (I actually would have been 3rd, but we had a jackass that effectively cheated.)
