On the other hand, are black people just not allowed to associate with monkeys at all? What if they actually like monkeys? You know as an animal, not as some weird racial thing. It seems any connection between a monkey and a black person, no matter how tenuous, is immediately regarded as racist. But monkeys exist in the real world, why can't people talk about them if a black person is nearby? I think this is another case of white people being offended on behalf of black people to ease their conscience or something. A lot of time when I watch older movies the acting seems kinda wooden and hokey, or the editing feels unnatural kinda like the visual equivalent of opening an old book and getting that stale paper smell. This movie could be released today and still be eaten up by critics and public alike. Part of that is probably just due to the nature of it being set in the 40's and 50's in New York, so they weren't as limited with older technology in that regard. But the acting from around this period and before is usually pretty weird to me, so I'm glad this all felt so natural. --- |

The only time it dragged a little was Performances were great. I think I liked Sonny the most, which surprised me bc of course I'd heard all about Brando and Pacino, but not as much about Caan. Can't wait to watch the next one tomorrow. --- |
