You mean like a piece of software takes a random model and slaps a random piece of clothing on them? That would make more sense than a room full of people photographing this and then an editor looking at it and saying "Yes, this is fine."

One great thing about society becoming so sensitive to these sorts of issues is that there are now mainstream articles to alert us to every single lul out there, no matter how obscure or unintentional.

More like some models pose with blank / greenscreened shirts and then the companies make up whatever fucking shirts they want and use software to put the shirt image over the blank shirt. But yes that's basically the idea.

If black people shouldn't model certain clothes, should they also not buy those clothes?
Or worse, should a black model be told "No, you can't work this shoot because we would look racist."

"Hey black kids, stop liking monkeys, why? because historic racism!"

Is this really a less racist model for society? How about, unless there's ill intent, stop getting upset over stupid shit.

edit, seriously, is the "right thing" here to deny work to black people?!

On the one hand, maybe don't put the black kid in a monkey shirt? You know the current political climate. People are going to be mad.

On the other hand, are black people just not allowed to associate with monkeys at all? What if they actually like monkeys? You know as an animal, not as some weird racial thing. It seems any connection between a monkey and a black person, no matter how tenuous, is immediately regarded as racist. But monkeys exist in the real world, why can't people talk about them if a black person is nearby? I think this is another case of white people being offended on behalf of black people to ease their conscience or something. I really really doubt this is intended to send a racial message.

Can confirm this is the case. Big companies dont go out and do their own modeling. If they need a bunch of pictures of dude in polo or kid in hoodie but they have 30 different graphics/logos... They get them from third parties who have a database of the images of models and theyre added post.

Its efficient and streamlined for a reason. Thats why things like this happen.

Calling people cheeky monkey as an affectionate term is pretty common

Calling children little monkeys when they are being mischievous is pretty common as well.

You seem to be being purposely obtuse. It was an obvious play on calling children little monkeys.

Still perhaps not the best phrase to use for a black child, but still very little intentional racism behind it, I feel.

I can sort of see where people think it's inappropriate but I mean really? My son climbs all over everything and I call him a monkey. If I adopted a black kid, I couldn't do that? Its just a loving term for an active kid. No need to insert racism into it.

I mean, I am guessing it is adding the "in the jungle" bit - given black people were long dehumanised as monkeys and apes.

But even then, this was likely just a stock image and the text was randomly added to it. Intentions behind it were almost certainly just something light hearted towards children being rapscallions.
