For those of you not following along, Mafia Universe has been hosting their fourth season of a huge, cross-community Mafia championship, which we're in I think our third year of taking part, and Dels was our representative this year. 165 players (plus subs) from about as many communities sorted into 11 games of 15, the players of each game voting amongst themselves who they think is the best player to advance to the finals game, plus a separate jury selecting wildcards from all 11 games to create two wildcard games from which two finalists would be selected to create a final game of 15. The format this year was all vanilla - no power roles, just 12 townies vs 3 scum.

Dels advanced out of his first game to the wildcard game after tying for 2nd in the player vote and being selected by the jury after playing a game in which he got lynched day 4 as scum, but not without getting widely townread early on and getting caught trying to defend a flipped partner too hard and being bussed by his other partner. That game wound up being the longest read of the opening round games by far and I think widely considered to be the most exciting - it had a really wild and controversial ending that Dels wasn't directly a part of but it was a really entertaining game.

In the wildcard game he rolled town and got 2nd in the player vote again (and thus advancing to the finals game), one of the winning scum players (Yraelz, who would also advance to finals) being voted 1st. Dels had a really high effort game in that one where he was pretty widely town-read and did lynch one scum, and although he and town lost in lylo with 5 left I think the voters felt that he had played the best town game of the group and just got bested by really good scum play - people have been really positive about his logic and overall play style. Was a lot of fun to watch this game from the spectator chat and see people get behind his game even without any of my prompting.

The finals game was the longest game of the season and from what I've heard probably the best finals game they've played in the four seasons so far, and the players in that game voted Dels as the best player, which makes him the champion! I'll link to the game here, it's a really really long read -

http://www.mafiauniverse.com/forums/threads/11243-Season-4-Finale-Staff-Takeover-The-Mafia-Championship

Dels rolled town in this game again. The highlight of this one was Dels and the finalist from his opening round game, Yeti, having like a 500 post long back-and-forth during... I think it was day 4, in which Dels was defending her against a mislynch but then heel turned at the very end of the day and betrayed her with a hammer vote. She flipped town, but the winning scum player from Dels's wildcard game, Yraelz, had rolled scum again and had pushed for her mislynch and Dels turned on him and got him lynched the next day, avenging Yeti. Dels got nk'ed after that with pretty much nobody in town wanting to lynch him at that point - the last scum went on to win that game in a really close contest that came down to a near coinflip at final 3.

I think Dels was chosen because he just put a hell of a lot of effort into all of his posts, used good logic throughout, and was a very cooperative player in a game about cooperation. He ended up being the second-highest poster in the finals game and I think the third in the wildcard, and his scum game in the opening round was also really high-volume, and every game his posts were really content-heavy without being too boring or too dense to read. He did a fantastic job repping b8 and it's been a blast seeing MU take a liking to him - he got voted as a top 2 player in all three of his games by three completely different sets of players.

Congrats Dels!

Techs don't do nothing, but they aren't a primary source of damage - the most damage you do is through casting buffs/debuffs, which are insanely important

We just tried playing episode III on schthack recently - and yeah, it's pretty close to unplayable, honestly. No fault of the people working on it, since it's a ton of work for not much reward for a game so few people have played. We ended up switching to playing through Dolphin netplay, which works a lot better (although it requires us to each start new files on a shared save game file that we need to pass between each other every time we play).

I mean I love card games, so yeah I love Episode III

obviously if you're looking for a game that's exactly like PSO epI&II it's really strange and probably not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it's a really clever and interesting game

my friend who is a huge fan of PSO almost didn't play it because he doesn't really like card games, but I convinced him to play it and he loved it too

Episode III is amazing but I had to pick Blue Burst

PSIV is really great too but the other classic Phantasy Stars are kinda old, in a cool way but also in a kind of I don't actually want to play this way. they are cultural relics

PSU is ok but it's not as good as PSO

PSZ is just kinda mediocre but it was neat to have a PSO on DS

I have not played PSO2 but my friends say it's horrible

Still physical, not just because of the satisfaction of having a physical copy, but also because you can trade or resell a physical copy. Nintendo's especially bad about not passing their savings onto the customer in any way - digital copies are simply worth less than physical copies because they are less permissive about ownership, but they cost the same. It's great on Steam because their practices are less shitty and you actually get games for really cheap. I'm all about digital if the prices come down, but until then it's just a rip-off.

As far as the Hatch Amendment (allowing naturalized citizens to run for president) goes I think the original thinking was to avoid the situation of a President under the sway of another nation, but it seems like that might be able to happen even with an American president, sooooo....

Yeah, pretty much. What it comes down to is that having been born in another country doesn't necessarily constitute a conflict of interest or suggest that they're compromised in some way - and US-born citizens like Trump can still absolutely collude with foreign powers anyway, so we should be able to decide for ourselves on this one. There are tons of foreign-born US citizens who I would trust far more than Trump.

In particular I find it obnoxious that people can't be president even if they've been here since they were children. Also let's knock off this shit about being concerned over whether a dude was born in Canada or not, who even fucking cares.

I mean, getting AA5 here was a rough prospect for a while, too, and they only did it as a digital download. I think that if AAI2 had been able to be a digital download, that might have changed things.

It only kind of makes sense in the context of his character, since he does say things kind of sarcastically at times, but it also doesn't really match what he's saying a lot, and I know the idea of it being sarcastic finger quotes can't match up with the original translation, so I have absolutely no idea what he IS doing.

So the next time you're playing an RPG and you're wondering why some "key term" keeps getting put in quotation marks, now you know. This is actually one of the things I consider a strong mark of amateurish translations, but that's neither here nor there.

This is one of those weird quirks that always bugs me actually. Kind of like the repeated use of the phrase "a certain person" or "a certain x" which gets used too often in AAI2's translation I think, though that's a small complaint since it's a great translation overall.

AAI1 feels like the prototype and AAI2 is the finished product. They have a far better sense of what they want this game to be. I feel like the game does try too hard sometimes to make every case feel epic, but it succeeds more often than not.

Totally agree. Without going too much into it, I had absolutely no interest in AAI2 after AAI1 just wasn't very good, and I couldn't really imagine how they could do a much better job in the sequel. And then yeah, AAI2 just feels like what they were TRYING to do in AAI1, except with way better execution.
