Thats not what the slogan means.

According to the TC's article, that is what the slogan meant. It promoted a secular democratic state. But those ideals are considered anti-semitic because they're incompatible with Israel as a Jewish ethnostate.

The origins of the slogan

As the Palestinian-American scholar Maha Nassar wrote in the Jewish publication "Forward" in 2018, the slogan gained traction among Palestinians in the 1960s as they advocated for a single secular, democratic state extending across the entirety of the land historically known as "Palestine," which includes both Israel and the Palestinian territories.

That was the line taken by the Palestine Liberation Organization upon its founding by Yasser Arafat in 1964.

In other words, the slogan did originate as a call for the dismantling of Israel as a Jewish state.
As Nassar notes, plenty of Palestinians did believe at the time that a realization of that vision would likely entail thousands of Jewish people voluntarily leaving, given that they would no longer live in an explicitly Jewish state.

Palestinians viewed Israelis within the context of settler colonialism, believing Israel to be yet another European colony akin to Algeria.

From the river to sea being seen as antisemitic is not anything new. If most people see it as antisemetic I just think it's worth using a different phrase. It's a weird hill to make a stand on. It's the same I'd feel if I was using a phrase many thought of as racist or sexist.

But I guess you disagree that most see it as antisemetic. *Shrug*

It's not just the phrase itself, but the ideals it promotes that are considered anti-semitic.

So someone went to a pro Palestine rally waving an Israel flag? Why?

To counterprotest by "occupying space."

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/06/us/california-jewish-man-paul-kessler-israel-protests.html

Jonathan Oswaks, 69, said in a phone interview Monday night that he first met Mr. Kessler a week before the incident when they went to observe a similar pro-Palestinian protest. They resolved to counterprotest the next week at the intersection in Thousand Oaks.

Weve been here, weve seen what this is all about, Mr. Oswaks said of their decision. We need to show up with people and Israeli flags.

The pair met again on Sunday around 2 p.m., an hour before the pro-Palestinian rally was scheduled to begin, Mr. Oswaks said. He and Mr. Kessler then split up and stood on opposite sides of Westlake Boulevard intending to occupy space, he said, and Mr. Kessler was holding an Israeli flag.

I didn't say it doesn't matter though. I said multiple times, directly in response to you, that I would pin this on Biden if he loses and I also pinned the blame on Hillary for losing in 2016. It is also true that it's not a good idea to let Trump win.

Whats the fucking contradiction?
That's just lip service. You've argued that his opposition to a ceasefire shouldn't matter in their decision, that they should vote for him regardless, and that anyone he alienates is a "fucking moron" or "fucking pathetic coward" contributing to Trump's victory and the downfall of democracy.

But you don't show the same vitriol for Biden. You acknowledge that he failed or is "doing a bad job", but you haven't come close to calling him a "fucking moron" or "fucking pathetic coward" for opposing a ceasefire in the first place. A majority of voters, including Republicans, want him to call for one, so you don't have the excuse that he'd lose votes by doing so. He's willing to oppose one even if it means losing to Trump.

That's why I think it doesn't make sense to blame these voters for letting Trump win. Biden is doing that by opposing a ceasefire and you're not fooling anyone when you say that you pin the blame on Biden.

The alienation of voters in general, not just progressives, by explicitly arguing that Biden opposing the majority doesn't matter as long as he's better than Trump. That's a self-defeating argument for democracy that will just increase voter apathy.

I don't think people not voting in 2024 are trying to destroy democracy. I'm merely explaining the consequences of letting trump win.
So would you blame Biden for going against the majority who want him to call for a ceasefire, losing some of their votes, letting Trump win, and destroying democracy? Because so far it sounds like you would blame the voters he lost.

Because intention matters and its clearly not an intended goal of his to end democracy. If you think he is trying to end democracy I think you are going to need some substantial evidence for that.

I don't think he's trying to destroy democracy. I think he's willing to go against the majority of voters even if it means losing votes, losing the election, and destroying democracy. He knows full well that democracy is at stake and he's even campaigned on it.

And I'm not sure what the majority of voters even think on this issue. I think most voters support Israel to varying degrees but obviously a lot of people aren't going to sign up for the full genocide of Gaza plan and Biden absolutely needs to respond accordingly or its the greatest failure of his presidency..

Still a really dumb idea to let trump win.

https://www.dataforprogress.org/blog/2023/10/19/voters-agree-the-us-should-call-for-a-ceasefire-and-de-escalation-of-violence-in-gaza

Most, including Republicans, want the US to call for a ceasefire. Biden is going against them.

I'm not just blaming voters. Hillary has the lions share of the blame for running a bad campaign and losing. It was still a stupid decision not to vote for her as a progressive knowing that the Supreme Court was going to be on the line. There is no contradiction.
There absolutely is a contradiction. You're blaming these voters for destroying democracy when that isn't their goal, while simultaneously arguing that Biden is just "doing a bad job" because it isn't his goal to destroy democracy.

Yes I think he's doing a bad job with respect to this conflict and because of that its helping trump win.

That doesn't mean he's trying to destroy democracy or that he wants trump to win.

I think its appropriate to put pressure on him to get a ceasefire. I said this in the post you quoted.

All Im saying is that actually carrying through and not voting in 2024 because you think it will get democrats to be better on their positions in 2026 and 2028 and beyond doesn't work if there are no elections anymore.
I think your argument doesn't make sense. Why does it matter whether it's his primary goal? He's still willing to oppose the majority of voters, knowing full well that it could mean losing to Trump and destroying democracy. He's not just "doing a bad job."

And why do you think it makes sense to blame the voters he loses rather than Biden himself for destroying democracy?

I did though. My point was that not voting and letting Trump win in order to apply pressure to dems for future elections doesn't work if Trump and republicans actually carry out their plans (that they openly talk about) to centralize power and mass arrest dems. There is no democracy at that point and no means to exert political pressure through voting.

If the plan right now is to try a bluff and to leverage Biden into getting a ceasefire then fine, but actually not voting in 2024 is suicide.

Most voters, including Republicans, want Biden to call for a ceasefire. By refusing to do so even if it means losing the election, is he helping Trump win and destroying democracy?

Star Ocean looks like anime but takes more inspiration from Star Trek, whereas SMRPG looks like Mario games but takes more inspiration from gag manga.

I could see the protagonist joining the Enforecers if he thought they were a necessary evil. Also, he's the only one without powers? Seems like that should play way more into the story. He's inherently an outsider from the force. Why did he want to join so badly that he would obtain tech in order to pretend and assumedly face dire punishment if he was found out?

It sounds like the overlord hates skunks, but can't target individuals with his powers. He can only destroy entire communities. He justifies this by equating their tolerance of skunks with complicity.

To prevent that, the police enforce his wrath more specifically. They crack down on skunks and their perceived allies, including peaceful protesters. This forces the skunks into a life of crime.

Hermoso can be seen laughing and shouting, But I didnt like it! Asked by other players what she was doing, she shouted, Look at me, look at me, intimating she couldnt do much about it.

The Spanish soccer federation released a statement late Sunday, attributed to Hermoso, to try to settle the controversy.

It was a totally spontaneous mutual gesture due to the immense joy of winning a World Cup, Hermoso said in the federations statement. The president and I have a great relationship, his behavior with all of us has been excellent and it was a natural gesture of affection and gratitude.

Hopefully they're in the process of just trying to delete his account completely.

Not banned, not closed. Trying to delete it completely and erase any trace.
But you can't delete your account before closing it. And you can't request to close your account while in purgatory.

If he was able to bypass this process, then this may go up to the highest levels.

Might be in the middle of a self-delete. I think there is a one week window where you can stop it so maybe it is in that window.
When you close your account, there's a one-week window before it becomes permanent. If he's in the middle of that, shouldn't his account still appear as closed?

That is odd, are we sure he's in Purg?
But his profile also doesn't display his account level

Profile page looks odd

No mention of Purgatory, or any other status

Really makes you think...
What could it mean?

"But I don't want that! I want a classic, bloated, linear slogfest of a dungeon where the all-too-obvious puzzles revolve around a new item that's essential for about fifteen minutes and then borderline worthless for the rest of the game!"
Couldn't the developers fix that issue by designing puzzles differently?

The earlier ones might focus on teaching you different ways you can use the new item. However, later puzzles would be more complicated and require you to use your earlier items as well. I think CrossCode did this well.

Deletion isn't the same as close. Deletion completely removes the account freeing it up immediately.
Not true. Usernames from recently deleted accounts are also blocked.

I would not take anything posted in 2005 as gospel anymore, especially when it comes to account creation.

That policy was still in effect in 2020. DR's account was recently deleted, so it automatically shouldn't have been allowed.

What are you guys saying? That she's currently being unfairly suspended right now? How do we even know that's her? I thought it was a different person taking the name since it was deleted and if that's so then that'd be impersonation which is a bannable offense.

If that is her recreating her account then at this point it would be considered abusing the system to close, unclose, close, delete and remaking her account. Goats was known to be doing similar shit and got canned for it.

That's one possibility.

It normally takes time for usernames to be purged from the system. Once they do, anyone can recycle them. It's not considered impersonation by itself.

There are exceptions, which the system wouldn't let you request in the first place. The username may appear purged but is actually reserved.

The new DR was able to bypass that restriction through some exploit or it never applied in the first place. That could mean it was the original DR recreating her account.

They can see IPs.
So if you claim to be her, they can check whether that's plausible? But if you never impersonate her in the first place, that's not relevant.

Well that amounts to the same thing. If GameFAQs doesn't keep closed accounts around but automatically deletes them instead then of course they should allow someone else to take the username. Nobody made GameFAQs make that change after all.

They usually do, but there's an exception for usernames of previously banned or closed accounts. Those usernames aren't truly purged, but are "reserved" so a different person can't request that username.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/6-gamefaqs-announcements/23402936

If DR met those criteria, it shouldn't have been possible for someone else to request her username in the first place. Is it possible that she herself created the new account?

Doesn't matter. If I created an account called "Not_DarkRoast" and put in my sig that I was not dark roast and affirmatively denied I was dark roast every time I posted it would still get banned.

I think that's a completely different situation, where your gimmick uses reverse psychology to make people think you're her.

Did they make any posts pretending to be her or use her signature?

But if it was GameFAQs staff that deleted it then what were they expecting? If they'd just left the account closed then nobody could've taken it. Are they going to punish someone for taking a username they made available? I mean, they've done dumber things but still!
I agree that taking the username, by itself, isn't impersonation. It should depend on whether they pretend to be the same person.
