...So this game is just a Smash Bros clone now? Based on the first half of this video, every original mechanic and anything resembling traditional fighting game mechanics has been Smashified to function more like how all the other Smash clones do it.

Well, that's kind of what people expected the first game to be in the first place, so maybe this is the key to expanding their player base. Just goes to prove that original ideas aren't allowed in modern video games anymore.

If a 100 option existed I'd probably stay at 50 just out of tradition (it's been over 20 years), but I'd increase my topic list number as high as they allowed it. Give me the entire Board 8 on one page.

I only learned about The Loud House due to the first Nick Brawl game. Stuff can be extremely popular in a certain demographic but still miss people due to the age difference.

First game I thought of (since I didn't know what the twist was gonna be before I entered) was Super Smash Bros Melee.

I still mess with 1P modes from time to time and I'm pretty sure I played it earlier this year. Only reason I gave up playing Vs mode is because the people suck, but obviously the game itself still plays great if so many people still actively play it to this day.

I did know that a vulnerability was recently discovered in many Wii U/3DS games that allowed hackers to get into your system just be being connected to the internet while playing those games, even if you aren't playing online, but I thought they had all been fixed.

I think it is. They already patched all the Switch and 3DS games that were affected, but with these two being the last major Wii U games, it took them longer. They probably weren't sure how to handle it tbh, deciding whether or not it was even worth patching.

I guess the most interesting thing to me is that they actually took the effort to fix these issues and put the games back online, meaning they likely have no plans to permanently shut down the servers anytime in the near future. If they did, they probably would have just let them die here and now.

In their official announcement they said that if another thing happens that affects the online service (e.g. a new exploit) then they're pulling the plug for good.

I know this likely means nothing to you since you already said that you don't play Splatoon, but I just want to point out, this was the only Splatfest in the entire series that had a unique, Splatfest-specific stage layout. Normally Splatfests play on regular versions of stages (or in tricolor's case, a slight modification to accomodate a third team). But the Triforce stage was a complete original layout.

Didn't they do this in the past with some other big sporting event? (May not have been the Super Bowl)

You can tell I've been losing interest in the contest because I've been unintentionally skipping days... I'm not trying to quit voting, but sometimes more than 24 hours passes without the contest being on my mind. But today feels like a round 1 day with how much I liked the whole group of songs. I'm used to having practically everything that I like being wiped out in round 2 (if it even makes it past round 1), so I don't usually have any tough decisions left to make this late in the contest.

Kart racing is probably the single easiest genre to make a mechanically good video game that's completely independent of its source material. It's too early to get attached without a gameplay video, but it theoretically could be good (although there's no particular reason to expect it at this point). I've heard a lot of praise for that Nickelodeon racer a few years ago where you could equip different characters who gave extra perks.

Immaterial: Is it just me or does this song not match the rest of the album at all? The vibe is completely different than the other 8 songs. I definitely like it in any case, it's maybe #1 material on an alternate ranking and I expect to listen to it in the future. But if this is the standout/most popular song from the album, and it's the one that's the most different, then doesn't that mean that people aren't fully appreciating the rest of the album?

Ponyboy: Started low and rose on my list on every re-listen.

I don't think that this series would have taken off the way it did if it didn't have Link it in it (got a ton of non-fighting game players to play the game). So maybe.

Like many people, I only knew CRJ from Call Me Maybe. That song had all the characteristics of a "mainstream summer hit" or whatever people call it: a single hook (in this case the chorus) that was blatantly the main idea behind the song, minimal and irrelevant verses cobbled together just as a vessel for leading back into the chorus, and repeating the chorus as many times as possible to ensure that the hook stays in your head even if you don't know what the rest of the song sounds like. So naturally I was intrigued by this album nomination to see if there was more to this artist than people knew on the surface. This album has what many people describe as the "80s pop" sound in terms of instrumentation, and for me that's my favorite part; I love it and it set my hopes high when I started listening. Where it dies for me is the style/structure of all the songs. They all have the same EXTREME level of repetition of the chorus that overshadows and drowns out every other aspect of the song. It kills the vibe and wastes all the potential that the tracks would otherwise have. I think that I would enjoy an instrumental version of this album better than the real thing, but unlike most instances when people say that (as an insult directed at the singer), in this case it has nothing to do with the singer's voice. It's just how the songs were written.

I Really Like You: It turns out that I was actually familiar with this song without realizing it. I believe that it played in the store where I used to work (and probably half of the stores where I've shopped since 2015). Ordinarily that on its own would drop the song near the bottom of my list (as my external associations with the song are stronger than whatever I feel listening to it in a vacuum), but in this case, being able to hear the instrumentation made me like the song better. Going by that metric alone, this song would be ranked even higher, although it's held back by the same flaw that I described in my album writeup.

It's worth noting that this is not just another nostalgia-bait fake retro game (like most new releases on old consoles are these days), but rather a legitimate resumption of development on an actual GBA game that was started and then cancelled 20 years ago.

Did my first listen, and my initial reaction is: This album was a huge disappointment compared to what I expected from the one song that I listened to before. I'm not really sure how I misinterpreted it like that, but maybe Warm Blood (the preview track) was a stand-out and the others don't live up to it. Or maybe hearing that song alone made it sound different than hearing it in the middle of the other songs. I'm still gonna attempt a ranking but it's gonna be more of a drag than I thought it would be.
