Figured they'd have a higher floor just by virtue of people knowing them more and having more personal connection with them.
On the contrary, I think that the middle starters are completely forgettable nothing-Pokemon that people don't connect with because you spend most of the game the the final form and you see the first forms mostly promoted outside of the game. This particular aspect of the starter Pokemon (the middles being dex filler) is one thing that I personally feel has gotten worse over the years, and is a rare aspect which I would say that the earliest gens did better.

(Album) - Echoing what several people have said but this sounds like an authentic attempt at making a "disco" album in a way that people don't do anymore. A lot of times people start making disco-inspired albums but don't fully commit to it so it ends up sounding like a cheap imitation. This album could probably pass for being a few decades old if you played it for someone who didn't know.

That! Feels Good! (song) - Not a fan of all the extra speaking voices. Just let me listen to the singer please. I do like the SOUND of the song but not the contents of the song, including the lyrics. It is a good start to the album though because it sets the mood (with the help of the backing instrumentals) and gives a clear idea of what you're about to listen to.

Apparently Mouth Moods is steeped in meme culture. Im just enjoying it for the tunes, partially through recognition of most of the samples but mostly for the deft skill Cicierega employs with constructing something new from something old.

I'm not caught up on this topic, but I decided to read this writeup anyway since it was the only album on the list that I was fully familiar with (I'm counting the ones that I only heard in Rank the Tracks as "partial" familiarity).

If you liked this album for this reason, I would recommend listening to its predecessor, Mouth Silence. I'm in the apparent minority that considers it to be the best Mouth album (Moods is a clear #2, don't get me wrong). While nearly all of Neil's music incorporates some degree of "meme culture" or humor, I find that Silence has a larger portion of genuine, listenable music compared to Moods. Again, Mouth Silence has plenty of jokes and joke mashups too, I don't want to downplay it, but the way you wrote this description is basically the same line of reasoning that I use for listing Mouth Silence as my favorite one. So I believe that you would enjoy it the same.

Oh so this is gonna be another one of those topics where people fudge the numbers so people can fake-math their favorite giant series into having "only" 10 games. Just like the developers do when they name/number those games. Looks like a lot of people still fall for it.

Since you gave Pokemon Snap a shoutout you should make another topic for series with exactly 2 games so I can vote for that.

I don't mind (in fact generally like) when they make specific characters of generic species in the Mario series, but they work best when they're one-offs. I don't like the way that King Boo is (mis)used as a recurring character within the series. I'd vote yes if he was never in anything other than LM1.

I don't think I've played a game that required a "guide" in many, many years.

If I'm playing a newly released game where I have questions about either game mechanics or ingame secrets, it's likely that no one else at that time knows either, so the discovery and exploration topics take place on the boards. And that's usually the only time that I tolerate using boards for new games, because most topics are just trolling and shitposting until the game is a few years old and those people move on to newer game boards.

I can hear what you mean by Thunderbird having a touch of "country-rock" sound. What's intriguing is the implication that this is not how all the songs sound, and it's just the twist on this one song in particular. It almost makes me want to listen to another song just to hear the comparison, to see if the style is noticeably different. Because I didn't even dislike this song as it is, surprisingly. Listening to the radio has led me to believe that modern "rock" music is a dead genre.

Another instrumental, another song where your commentary on the #1 sounding unique from the rest makes me want to hear the rest. Except I probably wouldn't like this one as much. At least you made the first song sound interesting with a bunch of different things going on at once, so that will be the one I try (if I actually go that far).

Occult Descartes was very cool. I vaguely remember the two VGMC songs listed and I think I liked this better than those. I especially like the first verse where she's singing in a whispering voice. It reminds me of Splatoon styled music mixed with "Supporting Me" from Sonic Adventure 2. The rest of the instrumentation stays interesting and I don't mind the vocals even when they stop whispering.

As someone who only knew Barenaked Ladies from One Week, Wrap Your Arms Around Me was... not that. One thing that I can say about my own music taste is that I tend not to be interested in acoustic guitar music (especially in songs where it's the only instrument). So yeah, this one didn't enthuse me. I perked up a bit when the instrumental started in the last 1/3 of the song.

was enjoyable, but not memorable, if that makes sense? I liked listening to it, but it didn't stick with me once the song finished. If this topic were a VGMC-styled voting contest, this is a song that I'd vote over Wrap Your Arms Around Me in round 1, and then forget that I'd ever heard it by the time I relistened to it in round 2.

Frou-frou Foxes in Midsummer Fires might be a "need to be in the right mood" type of song... I'm struggling to come up with words to describe it. I don't have anything negative to say, but I also don't have anything positive. I can barely think of anything neutral. In one ear and out the other (note that this is not my lowest ranking that I can give a song).

By the genre description of Djesse Vol. 3, it sounded like something that I have little experience with. I guess by that standard, In My Bones was a surprise, and I liked it. I like the "effects" throughout the song. Almost sounds like some electronic touches, but it wouldn't be classified as an "electronic" song. (Oh, I guess you kind of said the same thing in your writeup.)

I also listened to American Idiot for that topic. I knew a bunch of GD songs from the radio, but I always felt like I missed a "connection" with them that a lot of other users have, based on the way that people talk about them. Maybe because I didn't listen to them when they were newer or when I was younger? Not sure. They're pretty much just radio music to me. I like Holiday better than Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

An unplugged album, well, see my comment about acoustic music above. After listening to Waging a War (Acoustic Version), I had to listen to the original to see what type of music it originally was. Yeah, I'd prefer that version because the instrumentation gives me something else to focus on instead of the lyrics. I'm not a lyrics person, so any song that uses minimal other sounds in order to force you to listen to the lyrics is not gonna work for me.

Wish sounds like a lot like what I associate as typical modern style pop. So not something that I'd be super interested in. If this song were in English then I can imagine it being played on the speakers in stores and stuff because it's harmless and inoffensive (note: I do not know what the Korean lyrics are saying).

Gyroscope has a somewhat cool sound but the song doesn't really... do anything? It has no buildup or payoff, it's just like 3 minutes of background noise that stays the same the entire time.

It sounds like my reaction to Heirloom is more positive than yours. Although maybe I'd have to listen to the previous songs on the album to understand what you were writing about, if this song is apparently the exception to your comments on the rest of them.

I also wouldn't want to listen to a Broadway soundtrack, and I'm definitely not paying attention to the lyrics or any sort of "plot". But this song does seemingly show off the "variety of genres" that you mentioned, so it definitely broke my expectations for this source material. I'm sure that there are a few songs in there that are closer to what I thought they'd be.

(I said I would pre-emptively nominate either Replica or Vespertine on the assumption that one of the two would win Rank the Tracks and I would nominate the loser for this topic. But G-Darius won instead so I manually chose Vespertine over Replica to give you a new listening experience.)

I started listening to February Air and reading the writeup while the intro was still playing. Once the vocals started, I don't know if I was just preparing for the worst after reading the comment or what, but I kind of laughed a little bit. It wasn't as bad as I expected but I can also understand why someone wouldn't like it. As far as the album goes, it depends on this song. If this is considered a "slower" song and the rest of the album is mostly faster songs, then I'd probably like the whole thing. If every song is the same tempo as this one then I probably wouldn't be able to get into it.

I mainly know They Might Be Giants from other media that their music has been featured in. This song is kind of odd to me. It almost sounds like a "joke" song that's being presented "seriously", but I think that I'm actually wrong and it's just a regular normal song to begin with, and I'm listening to it in the wrong context due to preconceived notions? I don't know.

If Dream Sweet in Sea Major is the best song on the album then that doesn't bode well for the rest of the album. I guess it did some alright stuff near the end but I'm not sold on it. I looked up "Miracle Musical" to see who they were, and apparently they're related to Tally Hall, a band who (like TMBG) I only know from a sporadic bunch of individual songs. Somehow I feel like this explains a lot about this album and I can't even articulate why.

I'm catching up on the topic! And committing myself to listening to the entirety of each #1 song posted, even if I want to skip them. Probably a lot of pain at the lower end of the list, but it will be worth it by the top half (I hope).

Agreed with Billy Talent sounding "safe". Somewhat generic, almost flowchart. That's not always a bad thing in every context but this song doesn't really do anything to make itself stand out.

Funny how the mere mention of putting Taylor Swift near the bottom of any ranking is enough to make some people upset. I'm the same way. It's not my style of music. I don't care how popular someone is "supposed to be", if they're in a genre that I don't listen to then I have no reason to put them on any pedestal, or go out of my way to "try" to like them. If I were making personal rankings of the songs in this topic then this one would probably be 57/57.

I remember "Dumbest Girl Alive" being the sample track when this album was nominated for Rank the Tracks. I don't think I voted for it, but I seem to remember it sounding much different than this song here. Based on the contrast between those two, and the constant comments about this group being very divisive, I still have no idea whether I'd like the rest of the album or not. I'd probably need a third song to tip the scale in order for me to take the plunge into listening to the rest.

Yours Truly, 2095 is my clear winner from page 1 of this topic, no hesitation. But I can imagine how an entire album of songs like this (with heavy emphasis on the narrative in the lyrics) can wear out its welcome. That's the only reason that I can imagine this album being rated so low, because from the sample alone it sounds like I'd rank it way higher.

While the game itself may have been mediocre, the actual implementation of the 1v4 mode within the construct of the game was quite good, and shows how it could be done again (except not really because there won't be any more consoles like the Wii U, so the chance is gone). But it was there.

(Edit: I guess "formula" is the word I was missing. The formula in Mario Party 10 was good.)
