GTA is just not the series to do a story about a former child soldier trying to deal with the conflicting goals of hunting down the man that led his unit to slaughter and also trying to turn over a new leaf and leave his bloody past behind. Like the blunt way Niko says that war ruined him when on a date with Michelle is a memorable, well-acted line...but I just mowed down four pedestrians because driving over that sidewalk was slightly quicker than taking the left turn around the median. I was also fucking baffled when Dimitri turned out to be the main antagonist of the game because he was just not interesting at all. He's a dude that Niko just met who screwed him over one time. Compare that to Catalina, Diaz, Sonny, Lance, or the exquisite Tenpenny and it's just such a who cares villain. I remember less about the gameplay, but I do know it left me with an overall bland impression. I didn't like the driving. My assumption is that the missions are boring as hell because I can't remember any of them while to this day I remember missions from the GTA 3 trilogy. It's also where R* started going really big on the realism. I don't know why it irritated me so much, but the fact that you have to either slow to a stop at a tollbooth and pay a dollar or you get a wanted level still annoys me to think about. But really, I think I just don't mesh with modern R*. GTA IV I at least finished. GTA V I've bounced off of twice, both times shortly after the torture mission. I made it to chapter two or three of RDR2 before losing interest. They're so focused on making things "immersive" that I don't really find them fun. | pegusus123456 05/20/23 5:07:55 AM #1 | I give the game credit for rightfully pointing out that trying to rebuild the Order with a bunch of Force sensitive kids is probably just going to end with the Empire murdering all of them and that the only reason they're in danger is because Cere and Cal started this whole quest. But it also means the entire story just doesn't accomplish much outside of making Cere and Cal feel a bit better and taking out two Inquisitors. I've heard more ardent Star Wars fans claim that trying to stick to the era between the PT and the OT is starting to limit them and I can see that hard in this game. You know going in that they're not going to make a new Jedi Order because Luke's going to do that. They're also just lucky that Trilla didn't look at the list and make a copy before they caught up to her. Sure would be egg on Cal's face if he gave the Empire a hit list and then destroyed the only thing that'd let him protect them. Overall surprised at the praise this game gets. I think it was a 7/10, but it got fairly rave reviews. I suppose the fact that my instinct in the games is to dodge rather than to parry might have a lot to do with me not loving a game where parrying is the main mechanic. The bigger issue was the map design was just ass. I was planning to get all the ponchos and shit, but I took one look at Kashyyk's map and just gave up.
