who fucking cares, it's a phone

When it interferes with instructional time (and it will, especially w/middle and high schoolers) it becomes a distraction.

There's no reason for a student to have their phone out during instructional time, if they have a little down time at the end of class yes, but other than that Johnny doesn't need to be swiping through TikTok.

You have some examples of black folks love to be the only ones in the room, pull the ladder up after they've used it and be useful foot soldiers for a white conservative ideology (i.e Clarence Thomas) that is harmful to other black people. There are definitely other non-white POC that fit that description but I'm just speaking as a member of the black community.

It depends, dogs that are kept for working purposes, legit breeding programs (that title, show, work, health/temperament test their dogs), etc are the exceptions IMO.

It's often better to have more than two livestock guardian dogs on a large property for example, a pack would be better able to ward off potentially dangerous predators as opposed to just one or two dogs.

The fact that Montgomery was a major slave trading port, and enslaved Africans were marched in chains from that very dock to be sold AND that city was infamous for its brutal apartheid regime during Jim Crow just shows how many layers this thing has. If that wasn't enough the boat that all of those people jumped off of to join the fray was named Harriet, the ancestors converged on Saturday.

FlyEaglesFly24 posted...
Im not saying he is. Im saying that when it comes to antisemitism, my people have a tendency to be irrational. Theres an us against them thing born into our cultural identity. We even call ourselves the chosen people. And lest we forget, theres also the matter of our historical memory with the Holocaust, as well as in the United States you are seeing an alarming number of hate crimes against Jews in the last ten years.

So in Jamie Foxxs case, the critics of his post, those bothered by it, its not about the message or this single event. Its that the question exists regarding whether or not this is another example of a long list of similar events ranging from simple ignorance to complete hate from a very specific group of people. You can try to isolate Jamie from that group of people all you want, but in todays day and age given how unbelievably stupid people are especially on social media, Jamie has done something that was at least associated with something that he shouldnt be associated with.

Im not saying its rational or even that its Jamies fault. I genuinely take him at his word when he says his message was misunderstood. Im just giving you the lens to understand where the mindset came from that would cause alarm bells to ring for some people.

I will also add this. During the Civil Rights movement, there are plenty of examples of Jewish leaders standing with Dr. King against racism. African Americans and Jews also both know what its like to have a crazy white supremacist go into a house of worship and murder a bunch of innocent people simply because of their identities here in the US. In the Jewish mind, theres an idea that culturally we should be allies in the fight against hatred. So when you have the other black celebrities spewing antisemitic nonsense, theres also a WTF factor in that too, because you dont really see it going the other way here.

Is it silly? Perhaps. But, I think everyone who stands against hate can agree that when it comes to stamping it out, zero tolerance means exactly that, and I think social media has proven that the offended gets to decide whats offensive, not the other way around. Its probably a double standard at this point, but when it comes to cultural identity disputes, when is it not?

I receive everything you just said and understand that perspective. I have no tolerance when it comes to anti-black sentiment from outside (or inside) the community myself. We can acknowledge that some things have a certain meaning in one context and be on the lookout for it (we know what that looks like in the white supremacist context), but in another culture it can have a different meaning entirely and when expressed folks within the community know exactly what it means but others who are not familiar may not (and some may see it as another opportunity to drive a wedge and use divide and conquer tactics). We have to be careful at firing off the streetsweeper because the buckshots may hit who it shouldn't be intended for, Jaime ain't it in this case, that's all I'm saying.

No I am not. Ive already explained to you what happened. Its not what was said, its who said it. What did you think I meant when I said Jamie Foxx is a victim of being associated with other African America celebrities who associated themselves with antisemitic tropes. Had Kanye and Kyrie and Desean and Nick Cannon and Ice Cube and the list goes on and on not said what they said, Jamie Foxx is not under the microscope. If there wasnt a record of African American celebs thinking positively of Louis Farkhann, this wouldnt be a problem. This has absolutely nothing to do with what goes on in Black Churches. It has everything to do with being another example in recent memory of an African American celebrity, thats the operative word by the way, being associated with an Antisemitic trope. Thats the context you ignored.

I fully understand the need to be on guard when it comes things like this, especially in these current times in America but Jaime is not comparable to those other celebrities in this instance. Jennifer Aniston, social media, TMZ etc are running with a narrative and Black folks are like wait, pump your brakes on this one.

So Ill weigh in as a Jew.

Heres the skinny as I see it. Jamie Foxx is a victim of his own skin tone. At first glance, I dont see anything wrong with the post, although the accusation of deicide has historically been attached to my people since the Great Revolt. Christianitys message of Christ as a savior was directly tied to the misfortune of Jews after Christs death pretty early on.

However, I think in this case, if someone of my faith/culture (whatever word we are using) was offended, it stems from the fact that here we have another African American celebrity either by ignorance, accident, or intent, attaching himself to yet another antisemitic trope on social media. And if you look at it from that perspective, well you cant blame some of us, given our history, from being a little paranoid.

Thats my two cents as to what that is. Its probably a little silly, but given the Kanye West, Kyrie Irving, even the Desean Jackson stuff, and given that antisemitic acts in the US are on the rise, its easy for some to jump to conclusions.

So again, I dont see anything inherently dangerous there. But I understand why some would.

Kanye and DeSean were out of pocket, but this is not an antisemetic trope though. Cultural context matters, and in the Black church it simply means to watch out for fake friends. As a kid growing up I heard this saying all the time, "Mama they talking about me" "Chile they talked about Jesus, what do you want to eat?"

This kind of reminds me of the time on social media where folks got mad at The Dream because he made a joke about "CP time", and people thought it meant cerebral palsy but everybody black knew what he meant...

It's the age old White Man's Burden bullshit, like Africans and Natives were just sitting around staring at their navels, doing nothing, building nothing until settlers and colonizers came.

Nevermind the fact that the Natives helped keep the settler's asses from literally starving early on, or enslaved Africans bringing the skills that they learned IN Africa, for thousands of years, to the Americas. They want to have a weaponized ignorance against those facts, and pass it on to their kids because God forbid a white child will find commonality with black and brown folks and become allies instead of perpetuating white nationalism.

Friends,

You can bend and twist the stats many ways. You can count the percentage of black millionaires in the USA, compare to the percentage of black Millionaires in the countries that slaves were taken from. since the Percentage is higher in the USA, you could infer that living in the USA was a BENEFIT to black people.

You could also look at Average Black income, with the USA and the Countries of Africa. the USA is higher, so it was a benefit to move here.

So you could bend the stats, anyway you want. the fact that killing people, kidnapping, raping, and torture, should be against the law, no matter the color of your skin. I assume such nasty stuff was done to them, we could not even Image the torture that went on.
