Dog vs dog aggression, of course. I don't think any bull breed owner would say otherwise, human aggression was not something that was bred in due to safety factors for dogmen in the pit.

And the degree of dog aggression varies with the individual dog, it's not a one size fits all. Some dogs are hot, some are cold, some in the middle.

But then again, your own words applies to yourself as well and your insisting that your social circle liking the word must mean it was widely popular among us black people.

Good God, I don't think anyone said that it was a popular term, just that it is an old word that people are familiar with.

Most black people were not using the word woke.

To be frank, the people mostly harping on the word is right wingers and their hysteria of calling everything woke, and fringe people on the left like rose Twitter.

Right wingers saw the 2020 protest that rejuvenated the word, then the right did what they do best. They took the summer of 2020 and turned it into a new buzzword that replaced SJW.

This idea that "woke" was a popular word among us black people that most of us use or used for decades is just not true.

The word has been part of our lexicon for decades like I said. People still said 'woke' when I was growing up, while not as much as my parent's generation it didn't fall off like 'jive turkey' or 'tight'. Right wingers appropriated it to describe anything they don't like.

Pip came into the league and averaged 7 points his rookie season. He was a raw prospect, it could be argued that the reason he became as good as he was is due to the fact that he had Jordan as a teammate and saw how much work he put in. I don't think he has that kind of success he had overall if he were on another team early in his career.

all of those rules are true, to some extent; whether they happened to the individual directly or indirectly.

and it's not just about "thinking everyone is racist", it's more about avoiding potentially dangerous situations, by either doing things to keep yourself out of drama and/or trying to appear less of a threat.

This. Growing up black in America is a different experience, I understood all of that list and use some of the tactics.

If we're assertive then we're loud and aggressive. If we speak in AAVE, Kouri-vini, or Gullah then we're "ghetto and uneducated". We have to take into account medical racism, black women's mortality rate during childbirth is three times more likely than their white counterparts. We all have the talk to our children when it comes to the police, etc. We have to make plans to avoid sundown towns, multiple Confederate flags is a no go. It's a lot of shit that are in the back of our minds when we are in certain situations, that didn't just appear from the aether, it's from centuries of anti-black racism that perpetuates.

On the receipt one, I also make it a point to buy something when I go to a store so it doesn't appear that I'm just walking in and out. Roy Wood Jr. talked about this during a bit in his special, every black person in the audience knew that he was talking about.

it's called. DO NOT FUCKING TOUCH PEOPLE THAT DO NOT WANT TO BE TOUCHED.

there are ways to confiscate a student's device that DO NOT INVOLVE TOUCHING PEOPLE THAT DO NOT WANT TO BE TOUCHED.

Unless you are literally preventing physical harm it is ALWAYS the wrong move to TOUCH SOMEBODY THAT DOES NOT WANT TO BE TOUCHED.

If you choose to TOUCH SOMEBODY THAT DOES NOT WANT TO BE TOUCHED outside of the scenario that you are attempting to prevent physical harm, and they physically retaliate, that is on you, because YOU TOUCHED SOMEONE THAT DID NOT WANT TO BE TOUCHED.

its that simple.

The onus is on the student to obey the rules to avoid the consequences of breaking the rules.

Consequences, who woulda thought.

I'm having a hard time drawing the connection between phone confiscation and physical assault. If I tell you to put the phone away and you persist, I'm putting it into my lab closet until the end of class, if you have a fit then I call security and they can pick it up from the office at the cost of $15.

Yes it is. go on a lil touching spree tell me how it fucking ends. people have literally been convicted of assault for doing EXACTLY what the teacher did, taking something out of somebody else's hands.

oh i'm sorry, did he magically teleport the phone out of her possession?

i have a son in highschool. you know how they keep kids from being on their phones? You check in your phone in an over the door shoe organizer, in a pocket that has your name on it. if your phone isn't in that pocket you are counted absent from class and unexcused absences impact their grade, and parents start getting e-mails and phone calls about their child's unexcused absence. it works. you know what they DON'T do? they don't physically take it out of the student's hands after they get caught with it out, thus creating a physical altercation with a student where there doesn't need to be one.

Don't. fucking. touch. people.

How do you know if he physically yanked it from her hands? On the other hand We HAVE video evidence of her assaulting him with pepper spray, not a peep out of you about that.

Attitudes like this are why the behavioral problems with kids in schools are out of control nationwide, and it's teachers and admin's jobs to teach kids basic skills that they should have learned at home (like not assaulting someone because you got caught with your phone out during a test)

At my school, I've observed a significant deficit in critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction with this year's freshmen. Like, more than just the awkwardness that comes with the transition from middle to high school.

These kids were in 6th grade when covid happened and we went virtual.

A lot of my 7th graders are more on a 4th or 5th grade level emotionally. 7th grade is a weird age where the hormones are kicking in (they lose their minds for a while) and they want to be grown but still act like little kids ("He hit me!", "She took my pencil!" but then want to vape and drink in school). There's a learned helplessness, lack of motivation, social skills aren't where they should be, etc just like you said.

The only way this will turn around is with enforcing rules and administration to back us up. It all starts at home though, I tell mine that I wouldn't be here today if I did half of the things they do at school, my parents would have handled me. Even the "bad" kids I knew growing up would still respect the teacher (especially if it was an older person), pepper spraying a teacher, fighting them, etc was unheard of.

I think people underestimate just how bad the issue with cell phone usage during instructional time is with students, unless you work in a school setting you wouldn't understand. This is my first year teaching (7th) and these kids can't function without their phones.

It's so annoying when kids zone out on what you are saying within 30 secs and are on their phone browsing TikTok. I'd bet 1k this teacher told her multiple times to put the phone away before confiscating it.

There should be rules and expectations for students to follow, and if they don't then there should be consequences (shocking, I know). If a student can't be bothered enough to listen for 5 minutes or complete their assignments and would rather play on their phone then it should be confiscated until the end of class, if they can't handle that then call security (if they show up in a timely matter) and turn it over to the office.
