The 3800X3D is the best CPU in the world for pure gaming, and its a Ryzen 7. If you lookup benchmarks to compare, your i7 is probably fine if its within the last few generations. The problem is the motherboard socket. Both the current Raptor Lake (13th gen) and Alder Lake (12th gen) use LGA 1700 socket. Intel has a 2-gens lifespan for each socket judging from their history. That means the next 14th gen will come with a new socket. If you wait until after the next 14th gen comes out then you can either: * Upgrade both your CPU and motherboard to 14th gen Intel. A bit expensive but you'll get upgradibility to 15th gen CPU too. Or... * Shop around for 13th gen i9 with some nice price cut because it can no longer be used with the latest and greatest 14th gen motherboard :) Oh man, that's a trip. --- You're never ever fully dressed without a smile!

Well playing games on integrated gpu is an ill advised move but it's not impossible depending on the game and the genre. When your integrated gpu can no longer handle your game at your prefered resolution/fps then you MUST upgrade. That's as low as you can go :) That should last quite a while, especially at 1080p/60Hz. I want to upgrade to an i9 --- You're never ever fully dressed without a smile!

I feel like if I waited a year I'd be better off, but that's just tech talk. I still have an i7, 3080ti, 32 RAM. It's just crazy that if you wait a year, something better comes out, but you don't really need to upgrade for a while. --- You're never ever fully dressed without a smile!
