More productively, upgrading your dodge sounds like it risks falling into the same trap as Adaptability in DS2. It's pretty easy to get accustomed to a given dodge timing and iframe window, so if an upgrade changes that, it can be hard to adjust. That said, it's not like there's no precedent for that, with the various weight classes and the Dark Wood Grain Ring in DS1, so I'm sure you'll get used to it.

We usually get paper products, frozen fruit, some fresh veggies/fruit (depending on what's available, lettuce and celery being staples), sandwich meats/cheeses, some cleaning products, and a few pantry items like cereal and chocolate chips from Costco, some toiletries/pharmaceuticals, along with a few other things where the bulk quantities won't spoil and are more cost-efficient than a regular grocery store. We also go to a bulk food store (Bulk Barn, which I believe is only in Canada) for spices, dried fruits, nuts, seeds, and a couple other dry goods. It would probably be more cost-efficient to get stuff like flour and sugar from one of those places instead of the regular grocery store, but I find that grocery store bags are a good size for our cupboards and I don't spend all that much on them in the long run anyway, so I'm fine with that bit of inefficiency.

Notably, I'd like to get meat from Costco, but we just don't have the freezer space for it, and there's no way we could go through it fast enough without freezing.

I've never understood the point of pancake mix. Making pancakes from scratch takes like 5 ingredients, all of them extremely common kitchen staples (with the possible exception of baking powder, but one small jar of baking powder takes up less space than the multiple boxes of pancake mix it can replace), and they taste significantly better.

Maybe I'm just weird, but when my dad was dying/had just died, I made a point of not bringing it up in any sort of casual conversation or telling anyone unless it was contextually relevant. Part of that was trying to avoid putting them in an awkward position where they had to figure out how to respond appropriately to the news, but a larger part was that it let me go on with those parts of my life unchanged. Having that normalcy remain a constant presence through my life while I was going through the immediate grieving process was really helpful, I found, since it meant that I didn't have to be afraid of being really upset because I could trust that that baseline would always be there. My closer friends got the news without me telling them, though, so that kind of limited how often I actually had to bring it up.

Of course, that was just my experience and what worked for my grief. Others' mileage may vary. Others should just have walked away.

I don't know how conservation efforts became a liberal thing.

Mostly because conservation efforts mean not letting the petrochem industry do whatever they want. Between most petrochem operations being in rural areas and/or employing blue-collar workers, and the extent to which corporations have bought out the GOP, it's been pretty easy to run the necessary propaganda campaigns to paint the whole thing as a liberal conspiracy. Across the board, fighting climate change also means changing how we live, which is fundamentally at odds with being conservative (even if those changes are for the sake of conserving the planet).

Yeah, that's what works: You can absolutely have a sci-fi setting with robots and lasers if you have a main character who's like Samus (for example, though as an aside Metroid would actually be a pretty awesome setting for a soulslike), since then you do have a character where it feels sensible to move quickly and precisely. Giant robots, though, are inherently clunky and have significantly more momentum than human-sized ones. Games like AC still don't exactly handle that realistically, but they at least try.

People are silly. Heck, I don't think I'd even want a soulslike with mechs. Soulslikes rely on rapid, precise movement, which is blatantly at odds with giant robots as a fundamental concept. A soulslike with robots should be more on a human/android scale.

At some level, I can appreciate the whole "I'd be as bad as they are if I were willing to kill them" philosophy, but it gets pretty ridiculous when the villain has killed enormous numbers of people and has proven multiple times over that simply imprisoning them isn't enough to stop them from killing even more, such that not killing them effectively sacrifices dozens or hundreds more innocent lives.

I'm inclined to say, though, that the prevalence of that philosophy is probably less of a moral commentary and more a matter of wanting to be able to continue capitalizing on an established character without needing to come up with an excuse for resurrecting them.

For the most part, if you know how to put a game in an N64, you've got the skills you need to build a computer. It gets a little more nuanced than that, but not by as much as you might think, and there are plenty of youtube tutorials out there that can hold your hand through the whole process. It's intimidating at first glance, certainly, but it's actually simpler than most Lego sets. I'd recommend looking into some of those tutorials to see what the process actually looks like before writing it off as being too hard.

They will indeed keep making Mario Kart (though I'm pretty comfortable calling 8 the series' best and I'm not surprised they've just kept the DLC flowing for it instead of making a whole new game), but Mario Kart's lead devs wanting to keep trying different things doesn't necessarily mean F-Zero's also should. The sentiment seems to be that they don't want to make a sequel so long as they know it won't be as good as GX, which I can understand because that is pretty demotivating.

I don't understand how F-Zero has yet to get a new console entry after F-Zero GX. GX was f***ing amazing, has a pretty strong following, and a series revival could be hyped to hell and back with modern system capabilities.

My understanding is that it's mostly because they don't know how to improve on GX and they don't want to continue the series just for the sake of continuing the series. A remake is long overdue, but I can kind of respect the attitude of "we're not making a sequel unless we have a good idea for one" in an industry where it's so common to keep pumping out sequels until the brand's value has been completely drained.

Try hooking up the monitor to something else with the appropriate output. If the issue is that the computer turns on but you don't get an image, the monitor may be dead, so you should rule that out. Otherwise, if you don't have a graphics card (it doesn't sound like you do), it sounds like the onboard graphics have failed, and those are built into the CPU and not something you can really fix. Your data, however, should be fine, but you'll need to pull your hard drive out to recover it (which can sometimes be tricky in a prebuilt, but isn't too difficult).

Looks like there's only one monitor port on this model. It has to screw in.

It's pretty uncommon for a computer to only have one display output, even if there's no dedicated GPU. If the cable screws in, you're looking at either VGA or DVI, and neither have anything that you're likely to damage unless you're inexplicably violent with them (the screws just stabilize the plug, they aren't anything functional themselves). Do you see any of these ports back there?

Yeah, moving the HDMI cord is about as simple as tech gets. It's nothing more complicated than plugging in a new mouse would be (in many ways, it's actually simpler because you can see the shape of the port and plug better than you can with USB and that reduces the chance of having to flip it).

If there aren't multiple HDMI ports, you don't actually have a dedicated graphics card and therefore that's not your problem.

Depends how I'm using it. That's a long time to keep it, though, so I'd probably end up freezing some of it to use in a later recipe.

Answer: it makes the ideologically-opposed party much more likely to win.

Pretty much. In a perfect world, there'd be an even distribution of smaller parties covering a wide range of ideologies and voters could pick and choose which one best aligned with their views, but we don't live in a perfect world. As it stands, two parties exist, one of which embodies the absolute worst possible aspects of their ideology in a way that makes it pretty much mandatory for anyone that doesn't like those to vote *against* them instead of *for* somebody they like. Add extra alternatives that split the votes against the bad one, and the bad ones chances of winning increase.

I don't disagree that the two-party system sucks (I've voted NDP in most elections, actually, but will probably go Liberal next time because Polievre is pretty concerning), but fixing it involves a whole lot more than just throwing away your vote on a different candidate, in no small part by design. Voting third-party and hoping for the best isn't going to accomplish anything.

5 drinks doesn't even get me drunk though while it could get someone smaller (or with a less tolerance) plastered, you'd think that would play a role in what's binging or not

Nope. Alcohol tolerance is exclusively a matter of your brain's ability to adapt to and mitigate the effects of alcohol. It indicates nothing about the effects alcohol has on the rest of your body, which remain the same regardless of how much "practice" you get because that only changes with your size/sex (and even then, the liver breaks down alcohol at the same rate whether you're 120 pounds or 360 pounds, so while the larger person's BAC won't increase as quickly, it'll stay higher for longer and that also affects the health impacts). The medical definition of "binge drinking" is drinking enough alcohol in a single sitting to have adverse effects due to the acute poisoning it causes, and what you feel is totally irrelevant to that.

If you don't feel much of anything after crossing the threshold for binge drinking, that indicates a chronic pattern of alcohol abuse. You should try to cut back.

The prose has some weird grammar/phrasing choices and sounds a bit awkward. You're also kind of just informing us about her situation for the first couple of paragraphs. Show, don't tell is a cliche writer's advice for a reason. It gets the reader more invested in the character.

This is my first impression. I get wanting to break away from cishet white male protagonists for the sake of mixing things up, and that's fine, but explicitly listing which minority groups the character falls into is just an awkwardly hamfisted way to do it. Instead of rattling off a laundry list of character traits to fully-establish the character before she does anything, describe what she's doing and use that context as a means to convey more information indirectly.

As an exercise, you might want to try rewriting it with a cishet white male protagonist. If, after doing so, you read a passage and it comes across as an awkward way to communicate how cishet, white, and male the protagonist is, it's also an awkward way to communicate how trans, Jewish, and female the protagonist is and you should change it. Remember that while it's good to have a more diverse protagonist, if you go out of your way to point out her diversity, it just comes across as tokenism.

Nope, that's the definition of binge drinking. Bear in mind that "binge drinking" is defined by professionals who have extensively studied the effects alcohol has on the body and identified a threshold after which acute damage occurs, rather than by laypeople who just set the bar based on social norms among their peer group. Those are also "standard drinks," which means 12 oz of 5% beer, 5 oz of 12% wine, or 1.5 oz of 40% liquor. A pint of beer is actually 1.33 drinks, or more if it's stronger than 5%.
