Thorn 02/17/23 10:27:49 AM #365 | Elden Ring: Leyndell finished. Volcano Manor finished. Mountaintop of the Giants probably beated. Also Moghwyn Palace finished. First though, I think I forgot some NPC stuff last time so I'll just lead with NPC stuff. Back when I was in Leyndell that seamster guy showed up again and I was finally able to give him a needle that I think I picked up all the way back in Liurnia. The option wasn't showing to give it to him back when he was there but now it did so whatever. He was talking about feeling ugly again and wanting to be reborn but having seen how being reborn worked for everyone else over there that seemed like a bad idea for anyone who doesn't have the Great Rune like me. Now, those items that let you talk I assume are mostly there for multiplayer comedy purposes, but since I try to read item descriptions for a good deal of stuff I noticed that one had an extra blurb on it the others didn't have - the "You're beautiful" one. It actually seemed to mesh with his story so I used it by him and wow that actually worked. He swore his undying loyalty to me. Millicent met me over in Mountaintop of the Giants on her quest then disappeared again. Goldmask and Scribe showed up here too and the Scribe is really not thrilled that they're in a forbidden land and he's starting to doubt this is a great idea. Actually had the option to give him the memory drug meant for Rya but like with her doesn't feel right to do so. They're still chilling there last I checked. Also met Shabriri who is... Anyway, with Morgott down I continue on my original quest to finish the Volcano Manor assassinations. Once I return Tanith says I can meet Rykard and teleports me... to the boss fog I made my way to conventionally. I have no real idea what I was doing in this fight but the spectacle of swinging So, uhhhh... over to the Mountaintop of the Giants then. Kind neat place but pretty desolate, I mean, makes sense that it is and it looks pretty and all but eh. Seems bigger than it is and I eventually make my way to the Fire Giant who gets me a few times before I realize that his weak point is I head to the other Morgott seal in the sewers and it's neat that Next I go back to Mohgwyn Palace and... wow I actually explored the whole area before and the site of grace calling itself the "halfway point" is a goddamn liar because quite literally the boss is right there after it. We beat Mohg and whoa that was a lot of runes. Finally, while exploring the Mountaintop I got the other half of the other elevator medallion and use it to enter the Consecrated Snowfield. Oh... Oh I don't like this place. Can I make the snowstorm go away? When I just gunned it on Torrent to grab the map for this place I noticed it eventually clears up once you go far enough in but what about the first area? Exploring that area is going to be a huge pain if it doesn't since you're basically blind. And that's where I am now. --- May you find your book in this place. Formerly known as xp1337. |

Thorn 02/15/23 9:26:48 PM #413 | Glad to see that embarrassing episode over with. At least the Dem State Senators were united in sinking this even if Hochul, the machine, and even NY dems in national dem leadership (like Jeffries) had the weirdest obsession and loyalty to him. There were 3 declared LaSalle supporters among Dems. 2 weren't even there for this vote and the remaining one was the only other Dem defector (joined by all the GOP.) As for the vote, after LaSalle failed in the Senate Judiciary committee the Democrats considered the nomination dead. Hochul threatened to sue them saying they were required to give him a vote of the full Senate. Before she could file that suit, the Senate GOP did so for her. Hochul finally released a statement giving up after getting blown out here but still shilled for LaSalle by saying this vote wasn't really a vote about LaSalle's qualifications. --- May you find your book in this place. Thorn 02/14/23 7:01:10 PM #354 | Elden Ring: Rest of (?) Volcano Manor explored. Most of (?) Leyndell explored. Turns out I was probably more than halfway through Volcano Manor. Eventually fought my way to a boss fog gate and called the exploration. Did the second Manor request as well. Then we had some family drama. Anyway, the final Manor request tells me my target is in the Mountaintop of the Giants which is a place I've never been. Looks to be east/northeast of Leyndell though so beyond there probably. One of the other Manor guys wants me to help on a job of his and his targets are in Leyndell itself so really I had no other place to go but Leyndell. Pretty cool place to explore. I find a path that seems to lead out east but it is sealed (invisibly?) with a message saying Morgott is sealing it. Welp, guess I have to beat him first. Skipping past a lot of the more mundane explore commentary (though finding the So I U-turn back to the city and head down the well (I'm lying I dropped down here earlier and got the Site of Grace but like North Caelid this place was a clear difficulty spike so after that I went back and dealt with the rest of Leyndell before returning.) This place was less fun to explore if only for testing my ability to keep a mental map of the sewer in my head. The big ogre guys hit super hard too. Eventually I just took to powering the Dark Moon Greatsword and laser'ing them to beat them fast. It helped that I got a 4th Accessory slot in Leyndell though I put the one that dampens all sounds on it so I could stealth more easily to backstab them. It feels like a waste because I could mostly do the same with crouching but it's a nice QoL thing. Also find the Dung Eater's real body down here (bouncing between chatting with him and giving some items I found in Leyndell advances his quest. He challenges me to a duel, kills my crab vendor, and then dies in the most ironic way when his duel aggros a giant crab which finishes him off lmfao) and he decides to recruit me in his atrocity fest. Only he made a key mistake and this is where I get to pull a swerve. Progressing further through the sewers I make it to a surprising boss (who also was rude and had no fog gate) So I think the only real thing left for me to do is fight him. Thorn 02/12/23 6:33:31 PM #339 | Elden Ring: Deeproot Depths beated. Epilogue to Ranni's Quest. I actually made one last circuit of her area since it has already shown itself capable of spawning previously not-there sites of grace and oh snap Over at Deeproot Depths... Took me an embarrassingly long time to notice I could use Torrent here LOL. This became much more tolerable once I realized that. Not too much to tell on the exploration front. Found an alternate means into Ainsel River Main, I guess for people who aren't following Ranni's quest and eventually made my way over to the bosses. First Back at Volcano Manor. I completed the first request and grabbed the letter for the second. Also Patches dumped his job on me so I did his. Before I left for the second one (still have not done it) I found Rya and Don't think I want to fully complete this however because I'm guessing Tanith will stop giving me quests and rewards if I do. Thorn 02/11/23 4:19:44 PM #329 | Elden Ring: In which we do Ranni's sidequest aka I head over to the impact site to head down to Nokron. See a message left behind by Blaidd telling me he's hunting down traitors so to head on without him. Iji had previously told me that Blaidd was given an emergency task so I guess this is it. Descending into Nokron rather than just riding an elevator is pretty cool. oh no they're riding the giant ants now. Also lots of metal slimes. Also man the slimes and ants (especially the ants) with like a rock shield on their head are annoying to fight. Not so much difficult (well, multiple ants like this can be) as just tedious. The (mid?) boss is a Mimic Tear who copies me. Pretty easy fight except the one time he landed a special on me yikes that took off a huge chunk of HP. Now I have a small taste of how the enemies must feel when I get fed up and just spam that sword skill to make things die. Past here the path ends up splitting - one way leads to a coffin that sends us to Darkroot Depths but since what I'm looking for is supposed to be in Nokron I turn around and continue and eventually get the Fingerslayer Blade. I return to Ranni with my prize in hand and she's like "Great, thanks. I'm off now" without giving me another task. I go around and find that She also gives me a key whose description points me to the locked treasure chest all the way back at Raya Lucaria so I teleport over there and open it. It's a wedding ring~. Too tsun to propose directly I see. Unfortunately I can't tell Iji that Ranni loves him so I go looking for Blaidd who apparently wasn't actually that shadow. I make a circuit of the places I remember seeing him and... oh my god So I head back to where Ranni and I parted ways because the path goes farther. Oh, okay, From is just trolling with their love of swamps now with this Lake of Rot. Liurnia was one thing but this is just literally a massive ocean of scarlet rot dotted with tiny islands to stand on they're not even trying! Making our way past here (and raising some platforms) we come to a boss - Astel. That could have gone very bad but we make our way past him to an elevator that leads me... to the other place in Liurnia I couldn't make it to - the Moonlight Altar. After fighting some dragons (and an assassin) we find our way to a church that has seen better days and drop into a hole to find So, with dread in my heart I once more check in on my friends. Iji is the same as ever but over at Ranni's Tower And that's where I left off on that. I did some other tasks too during all this jumping around like activate the lift to Altus and work on Sellen's quest which went some places. I also failed to report on one other NPC task I was given during my NPC circuit. Varre wanted me to So, my options for progression seem to be: Leyndell, play around with Volcano Manor some more because I've ignored their request still, Darkroot Depths because I got so caught up in Ranni's quest I never went back here yet, or... Moghwyn Palace? Thinking Darkroot Depths to at least see what it's like. Maybe it's like Moghwyn Palace and I realize I should probably save it for later but I don't even know that much yet. After that, probably Volcano Manor? --- May you find your book in this place. Formerly known as xp1337. |

Thorn 02/11/23 10:41:02 AM #112 | Since we're talking about the more general discourse around this outside this topic, I'll mention something that I think is just really tiring and maybe a bit responsible for some of the frustration - I'm seeing a lot of the same people who, for example, during the George Floyd protests and calls for Abolish the Police were saying things (in response to "Guys this doesn't poll well, people are going to run to the Republicans" like "Fuck the optics, it isn't the role of activists to make sure everything they do is messaged perfectly, that's for the politicians.", "Working within the system normally hasn't worked.", "The whole point is to disrupt people's lives and call attention to the issue." but now when it's Hogwarts Legacy it's, Whoa, whoa, whoa. You guys gotta stop this and take a look around. Do you see how this looks? It's setting back the movement!" and it's just fucking exhausting seeing the naked hypocrisy. The version just voted on keeps the district in place, but essentially puts it under the governor's control, and has language in it that basically reads, "Oh and Disney 100% still holds all the debt and shit" so I'm not sure there'd be an impact on the rest of the state. --- May you find your book in this place. Like, to use an earlier example from this topic, by using the same logic you could say that someone who saw Top Gun Maverick personally supports scientology. People are making Hogwarts Legacy way too much of an arbitrary line, and it's going more harm than good.Personally I'd say it's a matter of how public and vocal a figurehead JKR is on the matter of anti-trans legislation and dehumanization. Cruise isn't quite the same for Scientology, I think. But maybe I'm poorly informed on the matter. (Because it may come up - no I have not watched Top Gun Maverick but I also have no interest in doing so so I wouldn't call it some kind of stand on my part. I have looked at films with Cruise in them with a very sus eye the past, what, 10, 15 years though.) It's not incorrect to state that basically as a consequence of capitalism that any purchase is going to eventually contribute to your money going someone bad eventually. And that for certain things, like cellphones for instance, you're basically compelled by society to support companies with atrocious working conditions simply because cellphones have become such a vital part of life. So I guess that all boils down to me saying the line is admittedly very arbitrary despite that being an unsatisfactory answer. Like I said in my first post I think each person has to draw that line for themselves. And FWIW like I said I don't like declare my line is the line or that anyone crossing it is guilty of supporting transphobia. In a vacuum I don't even really consider it a sign of anything at all. It's just that depending on the circumstances around it I may use it to be a bit more wary of someone in what they self-describe as, that's all. Maybe it makes you feel better, but it doesn't change anyone's mind. I see a lot of that on twitter. And it drives people into the arms of anti-trans people who will have their undivided attention.I posted this on Discord where we were discussing the boycott and issues around it and basically sums up my thoughts on it. Yeah, it's a bit hard for me to tell how much this was (probably good intentioned) people coming off way too strong or anti-trans victim complex but personally absent more information I personally do not assume someone who buys Hogwarts Legacy is a transphobe or anything like that. I'll feel disappointed, but that's about it. It's only when more context comes in that I'll start forming more concrete judgments. (Did you know about JKR's stances? Are you being an asshole and intentionally flaunting your support of the game in a way that clearly signals you know?) --- May you find your book in this place. Formerly known as xp1337. |

But I said 'the book's framing' for a reason, because the narration also treats Hermione like she's an idiot. She is, by word of god, in the wrong, and I always thought this was super weird as a kid. I sort of just accepted it because I was a kid and I thought I must not know better, but now that I'm older I look back on it like, wow, fuck that book.Very much this. I always found that subplot and how it was handled very weird, even as a kid. I just didn't make the thematic connections until much later and "oh boy" --- May you find your book in this place. I did a similar route to you and it took me 3 or 4 tries, since he had a couple attacks that instakill you.Yeah, I had a close call or two but was able to get breathing room to heal. MacArrowny posted... You can continue Ranni's quest now btw.Yep, while I was exploring his boss arena after he died I ran into Blaidd who helpfully reminded me. Iji also mentioned it while I was chatting with NPCs. Exploring his boss arena also put an end to my solving the mystery of the one guide statue thing that was pointing down here as the location of a dungeon. The statue was near North Caelid and was clearly pointing down towards that area but from that distance I couldn't quite tell what that place was yet. I spent a bit of time looking to see if there appeared to be a way to jump down there either near the statue or really anywhere along the cliff edge in the area and came up empty so I figured we'd find a way there later. When I was exploring Sellia and there was talk of hidden paths, seals, and "the path to the source" I got all hype thinking there'd be a hidden tunnel there that led to it. It looked red from a distance so with the scarlet rot it fit in my mind! But obviously that too was a dead end. Too bad that seemed to be the only thing of note there, thankfully Torrent made exploring it not that bad even if it was super empty. --- May you find your book in this place. Thorn 02/08/23 6:47:17 PM #319 | excuse me is the moon attacking us now Elden Ring: MacArrowny posted... Extremely soon!wow you weren't kidding lol Guess we're just going right to the boss fight LOL. Got Radahn first try. Didn't accomplish much else. The castle populated with enemies afterwards and those un-interactable doors opened allowing me to get the items I could plainly see through them before. Also did a sweep of checking up on the NPCs I've met but the only one with anything new for me was Sellen who I could show a spell I ended up picking up (in Altus, I think? Been a while since I talked to her so maybe) and she wants me to find someone else for her in Caelid. --- May you find your book in this place. Formerly known as xp1337. |
