No one has any right or place to tell anyone how they should feel or act if they lose a loved one this way except for the victims and their families. If they think death is an appropriate action or how they can move on from it then that's their choice, no one elses, whether you agree or not. That does not make them cruel or bloodthirsty revenge seeking monsters.

You can feel what you want, all you want, and no one can stop you, but make no mistake. Wishing the death of another human being for a crime is bloodthirsty and vengeful. Denying that or trying to sugarcoat is lying to yourself most of all.

However, this in no way, shape or form means that they support or condone whenever someone is sentenced to death and that person is innocent, and to say as such is beyond ludicrous.

The problem here is that you are giving the state the authority to kill. That is proven fallible. Mistakes will be made. There is only one way to avoid that, and that's to abolish the death penalty. To say you just want it done better is myopic, because there is no good way to do it.

Discussions surrounding the death penalty are less about the criminal and more about the society who decides what to do with them. Not once did I argue what she did was anything less than an atrocity.

I respect that you're feeling sensitive about this topic, but these are the times where we need to stick to our ideals and not succumb to our baser instincts.

I was terse and simple in my reply for that reason. To challenge people on that.

In that context, people trying to get back at you (by pissing you off) aren't especially immoral

I very much disagree. Getting angry is one thing, but to respond with cruelty is a revelation of who they really are.

There are people in these topics who are openly cruel and they feel these tragedies give them a free pass to express that.

See the "I hope she is killed faster so you suffer" posts.

Some people their cruelty is less open but they will still use the catharsis provided by these topics just the same.

Ive never understood why people bother bringing up the claim that the death penalty is about blood and revenge, as if that makes it invalid. Even if it was motivated by revenge, so what? That does not make it inherently wrong.

Quite simply for the people who insist "it's not about that".

For the people who are okay wanting blood and vengeance, who and how many people are you willing to admit that to while declaring yourself a member of polite society?

I disagree though that it doesnt make anyones grieving process easier. Youd maybe be surprised at how it brings relief to some who are grieving because it provides closure and a sense that the scales have been balanced.

Oh I'm sure there are people who will feel good about it. From there I would go to "are we willing to maintain a flawed capital punishment system for that?"

I have a very specific system I follow in these topics, and I don't deviate from it because I want to challenge people, even when they're in severe emotional states. If you're against the death penalty, to what extent are you willing to commit? If you're for it, what are you willing to sacrifice to keep it?

This is "what you are in the dark" type challenges.

And this is the kind of person these topics expose.

Going to a brand new convention: Sega & Sonic Fan Jam Remix. One day, and probably going to be kinda blah, but we'll see. There's an actual Like a Dragon panel, which usually don't happen unless I make them happen.

Also will spend Sunday checking out Atlanta itself.

You could have at least added a bit of nuance or more to the post (e.g. "this is horrible. This is a very bad crime. BTW I don't agree with the death penalty because XYZ....") but alas, not even that.

Living is the death penalty but slower and the state isn't in control of it.

Remove the woman from society, lock her up.

Wanting her to get the death penalty is just bloody vengeance because we're emotional. And it's giving the state the power to kill.

Yeah they play with that a little bit. Often the answers are obvious like hair, eyes, chest, hands, legs.

My favorite one of those responses, and I don't know if it's in 3, 4, or 5, is that the answer is "the club" and to answer that you have to look at anywhere but the hostess' body.
