Holy shit I finally put her to bed awake and she settled herself down with no crying. She was always a great sleeper but around 14-15 months she suddenly hated being put down in the crib. She would always scream at the top of her lungs and fight me as I put her in. Shed cry after I left the room, 1 minute tops before she went to sleep. My husband took over most of the bedtime routine because it was killing my back. But I finally did the routine tonight and put her down and she sat quietly as I left the room. Looked at the monitor and she went to sleep. Success!

We arent at full on temper tantrums but we are at him getting very upset if you take something he wants away from him, or if you dont give him cookies or peanut butter when he wants. At this stage its easy to distract him

starting to see him play pretend more, my wife got a little people house and hell take two people and move them around the house, its very fun to watch his development in real time (being a stay at home dad and all)
Yeah thats what she was like before. Very easy to redirect. It started to change around 18 months and the tantrums started to get more frequent, longer and a little harder to redirect. Still manageable and some days are better than others.

Cherish this time you have with him! The layoff is shitty but also a blessing in disguise. This time when theyre little is so short.

Shes having more moody days. Even the daycare teacher commented that shes been more sensitive than usual. Yesterday she had a meltdown because she ate a whole pack of raspberries and wanted more but we didnt have any. So we cut her up some strawberries and she wasnt having it. Just full on screaming and a look on her face like we told her the cats died or something. I usually try to explain things gently to her and then redirect her which usually works but lately I just need to let her cry some before I attempt that. Such a little girl trying to navigate big emotions.

After that though we all lied down together on the couch to unwind for the evening and she insisted on me and my husband being next to each other and kept cuddling and kissing us both. She is a sweet kid most of the time. I know these tantrums are developmentally normal even though they are a huge pain.

While this looks simple, this one was one of the most in depth things I've made so far. It's just chicken sandwiches and fries, but way too complicated. I made just about everything from scratch. I made the buns, ground chicken breast combined with pork fat, made the mayo, added some stuff to the lettuce, breaded and fried some onions, and did other stuff like make bacon and melt the cheese with a kitchen torch.

The fries were a battered nacho cheese seasoned fry. I had to buy a pound of cheddar cheese powder off Amazon. I cut the potatoes, battered them, fried them, and added the seasoning of the cheddar powder plus other spices. And I made a nacho cheese sauce to go with it.

There are so many corners you could cut to make this faster, but on cooking day this all took me around 4 hours. But I will say, those chicken patties might be the best I've ever had, fries were above average, but not the best.

She woke up in a mood today. Just screeching at me. Screamed at me the whole time I changed her diaper. Insisted on trying to dress herself today which I tried to give her the space to do. But we dont have all day. She was walking around with one arm in her sleeve and the other not. After a few minutes of gently showing her the other sleeve I just pushed her arm through and she screamed her head off and cried for several minutes like I just murdered her pet. My OBGYN yesterday told me terrible 2s are a lie and it really starts at 18 months. Its been so true for us.

another song he got really into was this one:

I appreciate the sentiment and trying not to nag but I dont know how I can take a break when the house is a mess, dirty pots in the sink since Friday, Sunday is laundry day, toys are everywhere, etc. Ive pretty much spent the last 5 hours doing laundry and cleaning. Several ladies stopped to gawk and say how cute she was though and one insisted I needed to sign her up for modeling.

Yeah we have a gate too. But shes 28 lbs now and its getting to be a lot for me to carry her up and down all the time. She can go up and down fine on her own (with us behind her to catch her in case). But she just refuses to go all the way and then wants to play on the staircase. She will often get to the last step and stop there and just stand around its annoying.

Does he climb your dining table? We have to tie the chairs together because she pulls them out and gets on top of the table. We also had to stow our barstools in the garage because she was climbing those and getting to the kitchen counter.

Any one else have a kid that messes around on stairs? Its been a struggle ever since she learned to crawl up. She just wants to hang around on the stairs and mess around. Refuses to go all the way up or all the way down. Just stops at the last step and wants to play. Which forces us to move her and causes a meltdown. We often just carry her all the way so as to avoid it but I want her to learn that stairs are to get you somewhere and not play around on. She also refuses to hold our hand while climbing up or down.

Similar feelings are what prompted me to ask about development.

I was talking to a friend and he told me about his recent promotion and new salary and man. I'm fucking happy for him, I know he's been working hard. But it's also been the kick in my ass to make me admit that I've been slacking these past couple years and just been in a rut with some bad career decisions.

I know how you feel. I keep trying to remind myself that my friends in higher positions deal with a ton of stress that I dont so there is that. But its hard not to compare sometimes or feel like I made wrong choices. Nothing I can do to change things now though.

Feeling a wave of depression these days. I turned down a promotion around the time my daughter was born (that was initially denied because I was pregnant and only given to me a month before my return date). And since then Ive taken more steps back career wise. Its for the best because Im just not up for taking charge of a team. But cant help but sometimes feel like a failure too. Im not where I want to be. But I know Im being irrational. Im well paid. Better than most. I shouldnt feel this way. But I keep seeing people advancing while I just dont and its depressing. I dont want to keep feeling so competitive about others. I wish I could just be happy with what I have and stop comparing. But its hard. I keep wondering if I made the wrong choice in turning down the promo and leaving the company.

Yeah a lot of EEs find their way into development by going the firmware/embedded engineering route. One of the directors of engineering I used to hire for had done that. He was on client side engineering and making bank.

Shes still repeating 1-10 for fun but also attempting to count objects and its hilarious. She does sometimes count correctly but most of the time starts at a random number or keeps counting higher than the objects. The funniest is she tries to say what the object is after and its gibberish. Like shell count her balls and say Three, four, five, six. Six bladabu when there are only two balls and holds her hand up with her fingers out. Its adorable.

She did count how many strawberries were on her plate correctly today and said Five. Five stawbee. So I feel like maybe its starting to connect for her.

we have the same with him having somewhat low iron which means dark greens and red meat. Fortunately one of his first and favorite snacks was quinoa puffs which have a ton of the nutrients he needs, but he cant always just fill up on those

he seems to like sausage and meatballs but those also arent particularly healthy. Red meat only if we add cheese and ketchup. broccoli, kale, and spinach if we add it to scrambled egg

but coming up with new and interesting foods for him every day is also tough because he gets bored of the same foods every day

he did absolutely love when we went out for tacos last week to this place two blocks from our house. I shared some of my pastor and he couldnt get enough of it. So maybe well have to do weekly tacos
I wish she liked eggs. Ive been trying since she was 6 months old and she tosses them every single time. Shes also a bit weird in she hates a lot of sweet things like pancakes, waffles and cookies. I got her to eat some of our Korean bbq meat yesterday (with regular bbq sauce of course). Ive made veggie fritters that she sometimes likes. She also stole my taco one day that I made and then when I tried to make it another time she refused it. Spaghetti and meat sauce is always a big hit. She also likes Thai chicken coconut curry (as long as I keep the spice down). Honestly though she can like one thing one day and hate it the next. She loved grilled cheese for the longest time and now she refuses it. Theyre just finicky at this age so I wouldnt stress too much over it.

Solidarity. She has low iron according to the pediatrician but I cant get her to eat anything with iron in it. She hates oatmeal, veggies, and doesnt like red meat much. Ive tried making fruit smoothies and hiding spinach but she wont drink much of it.

Today she counted until 10. I was just trying to teach her to count until 3 and she just kept going to our surprise. She did it a few times. I dont think she quite understands the meaning yet though because if you ask her to count how many objects are in front of her she always says two

She also knows almost all her colors. Except brown and black which we havent really practiced. And she often confuses orange for red. But other than that shes really good at them.

Shes also taken to say Ready, set go! Which I think she learned from Ms Rachel. I cant stand the show but my girl loves it and has learned a lot from the episodes. So its been on a lot recently.
