not directly related but Im pretty frustrated with my job right now, and its very annoying to be having to consider looking elsewhere with a 13 month old, after just finding this job with a 3 month old

a few weeks ago they said they were deferring a decision on whether we would get bonuses until this month due to inflation or whatever, so thats one thing

but when I started in April, I had given a salary range that was reasonable for a software developer with my experience. And they ultimately offered me $5000 less than that, citing that I would need on the job training for what they did. But that based on performance I would get bumped up $5000 by the end of 2022

now this sounded like a way to screw me so I before I accepted the offer I asked which metrics they would be using to judge my performance via email, just to get it in writing

and I had a great performance review a few months ago, and Ive been making sure to meet those metrics, and I meet with my boss every two weeks and he had said I was on track to get this raise as recently as December

so now Monday I ask about it being 2023 and all, and he says he doesnt think the higher ups will allow it, and then cited some other bullshit like my professional development could have been better and I didnt always update my google calendar when I was working from home, but that hed fight to get me something even if its not the full $5000 raise

anyway with my wife staying at home to take care of the baby, we had been counting on this raise, not to mention the bonus, so its some serious bullshit, and if theres one thing the pandemic taught me, its that theres no reason to put up with bullshit from a job

Yeah, that's not how adobe signed documents work. If it is electronically signed then the document can't be edited anymore without removing the sigs. If anything they changed it before they gave it to you and you weren't paying attention.

Did you ever have people comment on you initially saying just wanted one kid?

Whenever we mention it, so many comments saying that'll be bad for the kid and they should have siblings.

I know people commenting about those choosing to not have kids is a big issue.

I believe there is no speaker. The last Congress officially ended, which marked the end of the Speakers' term as well.

It's one of those weird in-between things, where for a few moments, America technically doesn't have a speaker, but we never think of it because it's not something to think about. It's the same thing with the president, as there's a moment between the last president officially leaving office, and the president-elect being sworn in, so there's a period of time (minutes to maybe a few hours) where America has no president every 4 years.

If you feel poor at $100k, you're probably going to feel poor at $200k. I see it all the time. I think after your basic needs are met, people tend to have a natural state of financial well being. Lifestyle creep kicks in as your pay increases, and the ceiling is crazy high.

Damn. That looks amazing. I'm a pretty decent cook, but one thing I can't do is steaks. I always undercook/overcook them. I'm screen shoting your recipie and makong my t-bones like that tonight.

My NYE meal was a whole Asian party platter to myself. I marginally regret it.

1. Salt it a few hours with large corse salt.
2. Get steak to room temp an hour or so before cooking
3. Rinse off the corse salt and pat dry, then season with regular salt (not too much its already salty) and pepper. You could leave it but I found it too salty for me
4. Heat pan with oil on medium high and get it really hot, like smoking. Then lower to medium and sear steak on each side (about 2-3 minutes). Its really important that the pan is hot enough or you wont get that nice brown crust on it.
5. Once you have a nice brown sear, turn the heat to low and throw in half a stick of butter. Tilt the pan and baste with a spoon nonstop. Flip the steaks to cook evenly.
6. For medium rare I go by touch. If I press into the steak and my finger doesnt get much resistance then I know its not ready. It should feel springy but not too much. If it feels too hard with little bounce then its overcooked. Or you can get a meat thermometer and check for 130-140F
7. Let steak rest 5-10 minutes. I put a loose sheet of foil and make a tent to keep it warm

To my understanding having a dog is only haram if you allow it inside your house, back in my country some of my family members had dogs but they never allowed it to step foot in the house. Jagus is absolutely right about music though, by the letter of Islamic laws and precepts music is technically haram although virtually no Muslim abides by that in the modern world but many Muslims still respect the rule regarding dogs.
