Shes FINALLY back in daycare today. Shes been home since December 15th when she was sent home with a fever that ended up being HFM. Then daycare shut down on December 23rd right when she was feeling better. They finally reopen today. Its been exhausting. I started a new job but we went into holiday break right after so while it should have been nice it was really just exhausting with her home.

But shes been growing so much its crazy. Today she said her first few short sentences.

Hi daddy (while waving at her dad)
Hi meow meow (at the cats)
Whats that? (she said this a few times while pointing at things)

She also can identify red, blue, green and purple really well. Which I dunno if Im just a typical proud mama but I feel like thats really advanced for 20 months. I dont mean just repeating it. Like she will actively point and name colors of things she sees. Or bring me a ball and tell me the color of it.

There is something so surreal about watching a small human develop and learn these things from nothing.

It's cost that much or more to rent.

Get it, get the appreciation and refinance when rates drop

It's all bad but that's the least bad option imo right now
Housing prices are expected to go down this year. While rates might go down, the chances of going below 4% are very slim as it was an anomaly. And then you cant refinance if youre underwater on your mortgage. So no its not a good idea to buy now with these expectations. Only buy if you can afford to ride out the housing dip long term and the purchase makes sense for you.

not directly related but Im pretty frustrated with my job right now, and its very annoying to be having to consider looking elsewhere with a 13 month old, after just finding this job with a 3 month old

a few weeks ago they said they were deferring a decision on whether we would get bonuses until this month due to inflation or whatever, so thats one thing

but when I started in April, I had given a salary range that was reasonable for a software developer with my experience. And they ultimately offered me $5000 less than that, citing that I would need on the job training for what they did. But that based on performance I would get bumped up $5000 by the end of 2022

now this sounded like a way to screw me so I before I accepted the offer I asked which metrics they would be using to judge my performance via email, just to get it in writing

and I had a great performance review a few months ago, and Ive been making sure to meet those metrics, and I meet with my boss every two weeks and he had said I was on track to get this raise as recently as December

so now Monday I ask about it being 2023 and all, and he says he doesnt think the higher ups will allow it, and then cited some other bullshit like my professional development could have been better and I didnt always update my google calendar when I was working from home, but that hed fight to get me something even if its not the full $5000 raise

anyway with my wife staying at home to take care of the baby, we had been counting on this raise, not to mention the bonus, so its some serious bullshit, and if theres one thing the pandemic taught me, its that theres no reason to put up with bullshit from a job
I get it. Its so freaking hard to interview with a young one. I interviewed when she was 3 months too. And then again at 15. And just had to last month because the company I joined was a big mistake. I never want to interview again lol. There were times where I didnt sleep because she was up teething all night and I performed badly on the interview and didnt get it.

Sucks to hear they pulled a bait and switch on you though. Theyre probably using all the layoffs as an excuse and think you wont have many options. Ive heard of a lot of companies not giving raises this year. My husband is an SRE and hes been asking about his annual increase for a few months now and they keep giving him the run around. They said he will get it in a couple of weeks but wont share how much it is or allow him to negotiate.

But they could edit it and re-upload into the system. Im a recruiter and I believe its possible to do so depending on what ATS theyre using.

It would leave a digital trail though. Which is why I think he should report it.

If they act like nothing happened you could try reporting them to your State department of labor. They might conduct an investigation and uncover it. What they did will leave a trail in their system.

I believe there is no speaker. The last Congress officially ended, which marked the end of the Speakers' term as well.

It's one of those weird in-between things, where for a few moments, America technically doesn't have a speaker, but we never think of it because it's not something to think about. It's the same thing with the president, as there's a moment between the last president officially leaving office, and the president-elect being sworn in, so there's a period of time (minutes to maybe a few hours) where America has no president every 4 years.
Got it thanks! My test is next Friday so thats good to know if nothing changes before then.

My girl is 20 months now. The words keep coming. She can repeat pretty much every word I say. She also can identify some colors which is pretty neat. Shes got blue, green and red down. Purple is a toss up on if she says purple or blue. She calls yellow blue no matter what for some reason. I think to troll me because she was saying yewwo at first but now says blue and looks at me smiling.

The other night was awful though. We got a hotel for a night to attend an early family event. Which we ended up missing because she refused to sleep. First she stayed up until midnight just babbling, repeating all the words shes been learning, while being restless in the bed. She alternated from accidentally kicking me in the face to giving me a kiss and cuddling me. Then she woke up 2 hours later screaming and crying at the top of her lungs. And didnt stop for 2 hours straight. We couldnt calm her down. Dont know what it was. But we didnt sleep until 4 am. We dont share a bed with her often but other times at hotels went fine. This was an oddity.

Good luck! I havent made t-bones before. Id have a hard time with those too I think. The bone kind of throws things off for me. I usually make filets, top sirloin or ribeye. But if youre worried about temp try a meat thermometer. Eventually you make it enough youll learn what it feels like when its at that temp and wont need it anymore.

My method for cooking steak:

  1. Salt it a few hours with large corse salt.
  2. Get steak to room temp an hour or so before cooking
  3. Rinse off the corse salt and pat dry, then season with regular salt (not too much its already salty) and pepper. You could leave it but I found it too salty for me
  4. Heat pan with oil on medium high and get it really hot, like smoking. Then lower to medium and sear steak on each side (about 2-3 minutes). Its really important that the pan is hot enough or you wont get that nice brown crust on it.
  5. Once you have a nice brown sear, turn the heat to low and throw in half a stick of butter. Tilt the pan and baste with a spoon nonstop. Flip the steaks to cook evenly.
  6. For medium rare I go by touch. If I press into the steak and my finger doesnt get much resistance then I know its not ready. It should feel springy but not too much. If it feels too hard with little bounce then its overcooked. Or you can get a meat thermometer and check for 130-140F
  7. Let steak rest 5-10 minutes. I put a loose sheet of foil and make a tent to keep it warm

American Wagyu tenderloin, miso butter garlic shiitake mushrooms, rice and a side of red wine and shallots sauce.

I salted the steak a few hours prior. Then seared it in a cast iron and basted it in copious amounts of butter. The result was one of the most tender steaks Ive ever had. Better than most steaks Ive had at restaurants.

You have a lot of potential. You have beautiful eyes and lips. But you dont carry yourself well. As others have said some weight loss would help especially by thinning out your face so your features stand out more. You dont have to get super thin but enough to slim your face down.

Watch some YouTube tutorials on how to style hair and invest in a good hair pomade. Get contacts again because you have really nice eyes and brows. They hide behind the glasses. Finally invest in some better clothes.

You honestly have potential to be really cute but you need to put the work in.
