which cities did you spend time and how were they? did you find different cities or parts of the country to have varying attitudes towards tourists and/or expats? how was the cuisine? what were the lodging/travel/dining expenses like? what were the weather/climate conditions like?

sorry for all the questions lol

Most of the time was spent in Saigon. But we took some day trips to the Mekong river and Cu Chi tunnels which were both over 2 hours away by bus. The hotel room was $20 a night and pretty nice actually for the price.

I honestly wouldn't recommend walking through the tunnels. They were used by the Viet cong during the war to hide from Americans. I have a video of it somewhere holy shit, I was done for 2 days after walking through them. Very hard on the body if you're not used to that type of thing

Fact:

Americans in general handled this very badly. People were very anti-mask. Anti-vax. People, conservatives in particular, fought against anything that would protect us from the virus.

I say this as someone who lost his father to it. He was a fucking dumbass. And he died by his own hand. He could have survived if he followed guidelines, but he didn't. He had COPD to begin with, then denied any sort of vaccinations and would rather die than wear a mask.

That's where Americans are. A bunch of fucking goofs. Countries like Japan have it figured out. We most certainly don't.

You can play 8 in 3rd person with the DLC.

Honestly with rates being as high as they are and then real estate being bonkers, renting is not the worst thing in the world. You can still get ahead as long as you live within your means. I saved up all my retirement while renting and only bought a home just last year.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/upshot/buy-rent-calculator.html

That link is useful to compare. You only really come out ahead with buying if you stay in the same spot for about five years or so.

You are correct that the rent can just go up without you having much of a say though, it's fucked. My 2br/2ba went up from $1800/mo to $2200/mo for absolutely no reason other than that they could. FWIW most homes have an HOA, and (almost?) all have property taxes

With all that being said my mortgage + HOA + tax is like $2200/mo and a comparable living space is $2500-$2800 to rent, without the luxury of building equity lol.

Millennials and Zoomers are really being squeezed
True, the world is a different place than it was 20 years ago when I bought my house.

My mortgage was only $730 a month. At the time, housing prices were really low. I worked enough overtime to pay it off way early. People called me stupid for putting that much of a chunk down to get rid of the mortgage, but I don't regret it at all.

I'm currently unemployed and not worried about shit. I've worked stressful jobs most of my adult life, and I'm done with all that.

In all honestly, retirement will be the hardest for renters.

If you don't own your own shit and have it paid off by retirement, you're fucked. You'll most likely need to check yourself into a state nursing home. Rent only goes up and never, ever goes away.

I paid off my house 2 years ago so I'm not worried about shit.

Walking down the video game aisle at Toys R Us during that gen was insane. Devs charged whatever they wanted for games. It wasn't standardized like it is today.

The stereotype "loud, ignorant American" is def a thing here, but you don't regularly hear people talking about it.

Only time I've ever interacted with an American IRL was when we were hanging out at the local skatepark as teens. He was on vacation with his parents and looking for a place to skate. Poor guy didn't really get a chance to as he was bombarded by questions on how life was like in the States. But my group of friends treated him with nothing but kindness and curiosity. Never thought to ask how others were treating him.

People who think Americans are especially loud have probably never been around a group of Haitians.

They're literally the loudest people I've ever heard in my life. It's almost like they're yelling at each other while having conversations.

I don't judge anyone on that, but yeah.

So you never complain about anything that you don't have a constitutional right to do?

You aren't even listening. There used to be an actual verification system to confirm the identities of many popular and relevant accounts, not just celebrities posting hot takes, and it was free. The verification system has now been removed and replaced with a subscription fee that requires zero verification. Explain how that makes sense without mentioning constitutional rights or how much you want to smack the smugness off a celebrity's face.

Maybe video games should be bumped up to $120 so you can sit in your corner and laugh at how cheap and entitled people are.

Do you receive any compensation for your corporate bootlicking or do you volunteer? Bitching about celebrities while defending a corporation being cheap while being run by the richest attention whore on the planet. I hope everything you spend money on gets tripled in price.

In 1990 video games were the equivalent of $140 today. That's the base price for AAA SNES games. Some games were nearly $100 during that generation in that time's money.

Corporations have the right to charge whatever they want for their services. It's up to us, the consumer, to buy it or not.

I don't see how this is any different or special. Social media needs to die anyway

That's Europe for you.
Racism, while being a very real problem, is quite different here. It's not so much the skin color, but the fact that you're not "from here". You can be as white as snow, but as soon as people notice you're not a native of said country, you're an outsider. Though people with a different skin color tend to face that barrier a lot quicker as natives just assume they're not from the same country even if they're 3rd generation immigrants.

Of course this applies to different countries in various degrees and whether or not you're an immigrant or a tourist. I'm mainly speaking from the perspective of my country and neighboring countries.

What country are you from?

I remember a story my high school Spanish teacher told us. She took the Spanish Club to Spain one year. They were in a restaurant and the employees started talking all kinds of shit about the group, how they're dumb Americans and whatnot. Then the teacher spoke to them in Spanish and their jaws dropped lol

At the end of the day, no one has to use twitter.

If you're on there for financial gain, then pony up. If a blue check means something to you, pony up. No one, literally no one, has to use that service. It's not some free site sponsored by the government that we have a right to use.
