i never felt that way about ffxi. i leveled, camped nms, and did HNMs with my LS. ppl were cool af. when i quit, the only grind was relic, and very very very few ppl had them.

That's the problem: why do you want to no life? When the game requires you to turn it into a second job to get anywhere. How is that fun? I'm not asking for instant grat. I love a small grind. But, FFXI forceed me to play non-stop to get anywhere. It punished me for having a life outside an MMO. You can see how stupid this is?

When things went smooth the grind wasn't really that bad. But, 9/10 the ride was rough. I always felt like if I wasn't playing non-stop I was wasting time. People constantly talked about having no life outside the game. Being online 18 hours a day.

Why should I. the player, be punished for having a life outside an MMO? Again: I freaking hate the instant gratification of modern MMOs that eradicate the social life. But, surely, a balance can be found. Project 1999 was fun as fuck. But, the endgame was ass because if you weren't on 24/7 and available at a moments notice you would never raid or do anything.

idk it just felt because I wasn't playing 24/7 I was wasting everyone's time. It took so long to get a group and level you couldn't just login for a couple hours and make progress. I had to devote all day to do much of anything.

It's hilarious how he truly believes he is always right and never wrong. He's the greatest victim of them and everyone hates him.

i absolutely despise the modern mmo practice of locking 90% of progression behind a daily/weekly timegate to lengthen subscription times. raid lockouts are fine, but asking me to do a/some roulette dungeon(s) with randos every fuckin day to get raid geared is just a fucking chore.

i like a grind that i can just no fuckin life when i want to, and completely forget about when i dont. ffxi isn't cutthroat competitive, and outside of relic weaps(which aren't even in this server at launch i don't think) and fame, none of the ffxi grinds are really that game changing except skillups i guess (i enjoy skillup parties tho).

idk. i lost interest in wow when they started gating flying behind weeks and weeks of daily bullshit. i'm the kind of weirdo that would rather no life a rep grind over a weekend. i got my bloodsail pirate hat in BC

But, that's exactly the problem. The game punishes you for not no lifing. If you weren't on constantly you were never getting anywhere. If you had a job or life you had no chance at ever doing anything. All my LS leveling buddies just played 24/7 basically and played nothing else. That's poor game design.

I played EQ project 1999. It's hardcore but, I don't have to play 24/7 to get anywhere. The only time that's true is for endgame raids. I shouldn't feel like I'm wasting my time if I don't dedicate every waking moment to the game. FFXi punishes you for doing anything outside the game. And the community loves it. I mean my LS would joke "You should quit your job if you want to play FFXI". Like, fuck that.

I played modern FFXI to endgame and quit. I got bored. The endgame grind was pointless and the community was increasingly hostile towards newbies at endgame.

I loved the combat system. I'd love to go back to Classic FFXI but, man, being told you can't do anything unless you turn this game into your life. Nah, a game is fun not a job. I don't want to make the game consume my entire life to the point all I can do is wake up and grind forever.
