Its been amusing to see the art worlds reaction to AI art.
I wonder why you think that. If computers can do everything as good if not better than a human (we aren't there yet with AI art, but it's coming) then what are people supposed to do for work? How do we better ourselves? Increasingly sophisticated robots will come for most manual labor jobs in time. In the past, new technological innovations created new jobs. With competent machine learning and good robotics, you just won't need nearly as many people working as we have now. People dream of a more enlightened humanity with greater leisure time and UBI, but that doesn't seem to be the path the world is headed down.

AI "art" is also problematic for other reasons than taking jobs. Images and voices can already be generated with OK realism, and in time they will be perfectly real. Video and 3D modeling are being worked on. You'll soon be able to fabricate news and criminal evidence that is indistinguishable from reality. Our legal system and society at large aren't prepared for that. Another negative social aspect is the diminishing and devaluing of human creativity: already people are claiming that they "painted" or "drew" an AI image, often one generated with a common prompt that they changed a word or two for. They often won't admit it when confronted either, even if they have a picture with that weird floating ghost text or funky hands and fingers that even a total beginner wouldn't draw. There has even been at least one case of somebody taking what an artist was drawing in a live stream and having an AI "finish" the piece. If you have the know-how, you can apparently already train the AI to produce works in the style of even relatively unknown artists if you have several pieces.

It's kind of a more philosophical thing, but if computers can even mimic human creativity, then what can humans do to find meaning or value?

The term "leftist" is meaningless. One of the reasons that the Democrats have such trouble passing legislation is that the Democratic Party is a big tent party that contains basically everyone who isn't a Republican.

On the subject of sex work, there are all kinds of views, and as usual, most people tend to think only their views are moral and correct. Nuanced discussion hasn't been occurring in this topic. When people do respond to each other, they seem mostly to be picking out the easy to refute points and ignoring everything else.

Many people that die and then get revived experience certain things, and they all experience bafflingly similar things.
That's a bunch of horseshit. Experiencing anything during a near death experience isn't common, and when people do experience things, they tend to correspond with cultural and religious expectations for that person. The few reported "prophecies" or special knowledge people have brought back turned out to be nonsense. An experiment run to determine if people really do float outside of their bodies and see things they shouldn't be able to during a near death experience returned negative results.

As a brain is damaged, a human being loses function. That the total destruction of the brain in death should offer up some incorporeal thing that lives in some unseen world and can fly off to an afterlife is ridiculous. How the brain produces a conscious, thinking person isn't well understood, but brain trauma can change personality, morality, and even sexual preference. What they does the soul do if a head injury can change all that you are? And if souls exist, where is the evidence outside of stories people tell each other and the strong preference some people have for such a thing to exist?

I don't like the term either, to be honest. It instinctively makes me feel like the romantic relationship the person is in is some kind of business partnership instead of something (hopefully) based on love. It's also a word with multiple meanings that can make a conversation harder to follow if you don't know what they mean out of the gate.

I also dislike it because it is entirely gender neutral. That might be valuable for someone who is non-binary, but I wish in the year 2022 people could feel free to use a gendered word because being gay or bisexual shouldn't be something anyone has to hide with any kind of ambiguity.

If it's only a single page or a couple of pages, you want Adobe Illustrator. Inkscape is free and will do in a pinch, but text formatting sucks balls. If it is several pages, you want Affinity Publisher or Adobe InDesign. There has never been, to my knowledge, any quality free desktop publishing software. InDesign and Publisher both have free trials so you can see which meets your needs before buying.

Microsoft Office is really only a viable choice if you don't need any serious control over the layout.

NovelAI uses some kind of currency for regular image generation (unless you have the best paid plan) and for up-scaling. Neither the Waifu Diffusion Demo nor the regular Stable Diffusion demo I have linked to in another topic on CE are paid products. And you can absolutely download and set both of those up locally on your machine and generate whatever you like as much as you like for free, provided you have a powerful computer and the patience to get it working.

I didn't make any of these things, and they aren't paid products. They are just fun links to click and poke at for fun. Are you seeing ads maybe? I do have an adblocker running in my browser so I'm not seeing any of those.

Again? Don't know what you mean. Stable Diffusion (which does general image generation) and Waifu Diffusion (which does much better anime character generation, if you use the right keywords) are both completely free to download and install on your computer to run locally. This web version lets you try it out without having to do that, with the limitation being the NSFW filter and the lack of options.

The only anime image generator I know of that costs money to use is the one from NovelAI, which I haven't gotten around to trying. Even then, the NovelAI image generator is really meant to be a bonus perk for those who already subscribe to the service.

Waifu Diffusion is Stable Diffusion, but with an augmented data set trained on a certain famous fan art site (don't know if you can name it without violating the rules). To get anime output, you still need to use relevant keywords like"anime", but in general everything it outputs will look more cartoony. You can download the model and use it locally if you have Stable Diffusion installed on your machine, but this here is a nice way to take it for a spin without installing anything. You can't change any settings, it only spits out two images at a time, and there is no NSFW output allowed.

Still a ton of fun though! I understand a more comprehensive model is in the works too.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

If you go pick out an artist on Fiverr and send him/her $10 and a prompt, did you create the artwork or did the Fiverr artist? If you'd like to argue that the amount of effort put into "prompt generation" is a factor, consider a more detailed scenario. You'd like a landscape painting for your home office, so you contact a local painter and explain what you want and ask for quote. The painter sends you some thumbnail sketches and you select the you like best. The painter paints the picture. You are unsatisfied with certain details, and you ask them to touch up the painting. Are you an artist or is the painter an artist? Did you make the painting, or did the painter make the painting?

You do not become an artist because you type "spaghetti made of flesh in watercolor" into a box and wait for a painting to pop out any more than you become a mathematician by typing your homework into Mathway. It can provide inspiration or help you get past a creative block, or maybe even be incorporated into some further work.

It is art.
That's debatable. At the very least, it certainly isn't the case that it is art you made, not in the sense that a painting or drawing would be anyway. It's like you get a free Fiverr artist to try and draw or paint what you want. It could be the basis for something cool like a collage or giving you new ideas to try out, but it isn't be default yours in the same sense a drawing or sculpture might be.

WingsOfGood posted...
It is not copyrightable.
That is not settled case law anywhere in the world. There was one case that involved AI art, and now everyone acts like they know for sure how it will be regarded legally. It's too soon to tell how governments and courts will react to this new technology.

WingsOfGood posted...
Where I go to find this ai?
I don't know which one created the opening post specifically, but the big three are currently Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, and Novel AI (if you want anime or furry characters). Novel AI also does story generation which can be a lot of fun. Stable Diffusion is free and you can even run it locally if you have a powerful enough PC (you need a good chunk of RAM to run the slow CPU renders, and something like 6GB+ of VRAM for fast renders). Midjourney is a paid service, but you can use it a few times on Discord for free as a sort of trial. Novel AI costs money.

It's on AMC+, which is a huge strike against it (you can watch the first episode for free on Prime). Followed closely by the fact that it is slow-paced and utterly original. The idea is that in the future humanity creates a colony on the Moon to research solutions to Earth's problems. The core of the colony is an ultra-advanced artificial intelligence called IO, which manages and defends the colony while learning from direct observation of the humans there. It's not made particularly clear how much of the technology and culture that originates on the Moon is from IO and how much is from the colonists, because the AI itself doesn't directly communicate in the show except for when the two characters who bear the command keys come together to authorize the sending of the first wave of Moon residents back to Earth, to help show us how a better way of living as well as establishing a foothold for their technology (from the dialog, it seems like IO will clean and heal the Earth through the technology it sends with humans while remaining itself safe inside of the Moon).

The humans on the Moon live very differently than modern humans, and there is disagreement about whether or not humans can be saved, whether the citizens of the Moon can be corrupted, who should control IO and the advanced technology, and so on. It's very much social science fiction versus technological science fiction, at least as of the first season. Personally, I think IO exceeded any limits placed on it long ago, and that it may have already decided on a way of "saving" humanity that is quite different from anything any faction we see in the show has in mind. I feel that if any faction gains control of both keys, they'll end up having a very unfortunate "I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that" moment.

I think it's just fascinating to see an utterly original fictional culture with their own ideas, their own way of speaking. The idea of creating an isolated colony to work on brand new ideas of what the human race might be was pretty unique I thought. Again, you can watch the first episode on Prime if you are interested.

The fuck does that have to do with anything? The fact that someone else, somewhere is in more pain than they are does not in any way negate their suffering. You're probably a troll, but if you aren't, the #1 reason among the myriad of reasons for not believing in the Christian God is that God does absolutely nothing. If he exists and has a plan for the world, said plan looks remarkably like doing nothing 100% of the time.

God allegedly wants people to act a certain way, but nobody can agree on what that way is. What's written in the Bible is open to an incredible amount of interpretation, which is why there are dozens of common forms of Christianity, none of which agree broadly. God wants a personal relationship with each of us, but he communicates clearly with no one (and if he is communicating moral truths to people, there are a number of different conflicting messages, with each person or group being certain they are the ones that God really spoke to). God is in control of what happens in the world, but he stops no bullets, no missiles, appears before no leaders or governments, and makes no laws. No matter the person or circumstances, nobody gets missing limbs restored and nobody is brought back from the dead.

I think he's far more likely to orchestrate a meltdown at zaporizhzhia than he is to drop a nuke.

In the case of the former, there are a whole bunch of concrete evidence you can point to that he's working towards that goal, whereas every time he talks about nukes in his speech some US agency comes out to highlight that they haven't seen any actual movement at silos that would indicate he's being serious.

Plus according to estimates, a zaporizhzhia "accident" only irradiates Europe and a portion of the front line, leaving the rest of Russia untouched:
How is this better? I don't think the US or EU will sit back and watch while parts of Europe get irradiated. Unless you think they can contain it to just be inside of Ukraine? Even still, it will lead to further escalation.

I don't really appreciate the sarcastic comments, either. I'm from the United States not the Ukraine, and obviously everyone not living under a rock knows there is a war going on over there. I made this topic because it seems like things are gearing up to escalate in a serious way in the very near future that could affect basically everyone. Everything Putin has been trying to do in Ukraine has been failure, and the conscription of ordinary Russians into the army isn't going well at all. People say things like "Putin isn't stupid enough to launch nukes" or "the people around him won't let him", but I don't find any of those answers comforting. Whether he launches nukes at just Ukraine or at the US or our allies, it will provoke a massive response and change geopolitics severely. Instead of nukes, he might deploy a bioweapon for at least some semblance of deniability. But suppose Putin doesn't use nukes or biological warfare (or is prevented from doing so by someone else). Russia will sooner or later collapse from sanctions and mismanagement. What will happen to the people? What will happen geopolitically?

Maybe it has just been the last three shitty years, but to me, this all feels like it can't end well at all for the world. Is it just me? I'd love to believe I'm overthinking this.
