When the pandemic started and I figured I wouldn't find a 3000 series card anytime soon I settled for a 2070 Super in May 2020 instead of blowing money on a 2080 Ti or 2090. But I'm going all out 4090 FE and then not looking at any other cards until 2025 at the earliest.

I try to wean myself from it but I can't get rid of Amazon Prime + Video.

I actually get slightly butthurt when random shops and bookstores near me don't have what I want so I'm forced to buy it from Amazon. Most recent example of this was an aux cable with a slim encasing that I could use for my phone while it was in its case (bought one from Microcenter first but it was too thick), and Barnes and Noble not having two books I wanted both online and at their brick and mortar store while Amazon had both discounted and free overnight shipping.

Wasn't that long but came to a sudden end when she told me she wanted to be with someone from "her same culture" (South Asian) and that she had known this before meeting me (black dude).

I was as civil as possible when I said bye, but this was also after a month and a half of us really getting into hip hop and RnB to initially connect and her hounding me for older recs since she only got into those genres within the last couple of years. So it seemed pretty hypocritical at the time for culture to be an issue and religion wasn't even a barrier since I wouldn't have even started talking to her if she were religious since that is understandably a barrier.

My parents were not nearly as bad as the other ones described in this topic, but basically I stopped listening to what they said if it didn't align with my best interests the second week I started college. Otherwise, I'd still be in Georgia right now helping a company develop smart cameras for stores making bank but on the edge of offing myself daily because it was a boring as fuck job. The 12k pay cut right now in comparison (in a higher cost of living area) is more than worth it.

Nah I got lucky and followed the money. Full scholarship from Alabama who at that time was desperate to improve its academic reputation and threw money at you if you had a good GPA and high ACT/SAT scores, and I applied to grad programs where they also covered all costs except housing and gave you a stipend...which I used for housing.

But I'd say that for just about any major city not surrounded by nothingness. Really the only thing I'm jealous of is NYC's 24/7 metro. If DC had that I wouldn't even entertain the thought of living in NYC

In the DC metro area, I'd say solo income of ~$130k-140k should be enough to take care of all of your necessary expenses, save a decent amount of money, and blow your leftover money on bullshit without having to worry about it

My friend from grad school moved to this area working remotely and making 140k and this gooby wants to go bar hopping every single weekend. God damn cocktails are $15 a pop.

Nah but they do say questionable things about white people sometimes as a joke, and I give them a pass since they grew up in 1960s-1980s Mississippi and had to deal with a lot of shit.
