Only once for me. In the VR game Half-Life Alyx, Chapter 7, there's a blind enemy named Jeff that kills you upon contact. At some point you're stuck in an elevator with Jeff, and you have to carefully push the button directly next to him. The Asylum level in Thief: Deadly Shadows is the only level that scared me. There are things in other levels, other games, that scared me, elements and themes and such, but the entire Asylum had me shakybreathing.

Yep many. Its mainly the audio for me. If I play on mute and with lights on and during mid afternoon with blinds letting in all the sunlight its not too scary

Soma scared me beyond reason. There was one part where there's an enemy that can tell when you're looking at it, and chases you. I didn't realize the first part though, so I kept retreating into the same corner over a dozen times, each time thinking I just needed to sneak better, and I was too scared to simply risk trying to outrun it lol

Alien: Isolation got me a few times. Not to mention terror of being stalked.

RE1 and Silent Hill when they were new and I was young, Vault 22 in Fallout: New Vegas when both it and I were older.

For sure. I tend to get fairly immersed in games, so I can be spooked pretty easily. Even RE4 which isn't scary at all spooked me when I first played it.

And then there's dumb jump scares in games that aren't even horror games. Just the other day, Elden Ring scared the shit out of me because some guy I hadn't seen smacked the shit out of me.

RE 4 scared the shit out of me as a younger man.

and then I played like 20 minutes of outlast and basically swore off scary games

absolutely. i'm a freakin wuss when it comes to horror games.

Yes, most recent example is Apex Legends. Sometimes foot step audio is fucked up and I've run into squads and been startled by it.

Way too often in horror games. Horror movies don't phase me at all but I pretty much can't play horror games unless I really want to. Just a lil boy I suppose.

as a kid, water in 3d games terrified me. rarely happens anymore but on rare occasions if im in just a really really big expanse of water i do start to get that same feeling you get when you are going through a dark hallway or something and suddenly feel the urge to run

outside of that its very rare. the broken body woman that screams and falls from above to attack you in fatal frame 2 got me pretty bad, same with the crawlspace lady in 3

i did. i honestly should have listed that because it was the only game maybe ever that made me feel so uncomfortable i knew i would never actually be able to finish it. i spent a bunch of time in a few areas and had fun making a little base, but at some point i realized i would never be able to get near the big ship wreck you have to go to because it was surrounded by the leviathan worm things, so i just tapped out and moved on

I rarely jump, but two scenes made me jump to the point of actually making a sound: the bathtub in Eternal Darkness, and the dentist who spawns behind you in Bioshock

The Phazon mines in Metroid Prime. Something about that place was extremely off putting as a kid and the way the pirates moved and the music just put the fear in me something awful.

I just remembered something else. It wasn't so much the video game that scared us but we were playing one of the early RE's might have been 2 it could have been SH as well. Anyway, we were playing until late in the morning, I think it was around 2 am when we could hear a bizarre sound and we were a little worried because we were just jr high school maybe early high school. We get up to go find the sound and it is obviously coming from outside, we go out the front door and it is a bit foggy, a very eerie foggy kind if late night and we see a car with the horn going off and the door open with a guy hanging half way out. We got freaked the fuck out and ran to my buddies parents room to tell them what was going on. Turns out the guy was drunk and crashed his car, but shit that scared us both real bad.
