What books are on your mind CE?

I've been reading some Edgar Rice Burroughs. Specifically, I finished At the Earth's Core and its first sequel.

The most recent book I've read though is The Warriors by Sol Yurick.

What is up with that rat? It's on a mission to get into that crib and kill that baby. He's faced with an opponent eight times his size and he's still like, "Must. Kill. Baby."

I was gonna say I'm surprised Tekken is further along in numbers than Street Fighter, but then I remembered Capcom had about six different releases entitled "Street Fighter II." World Warrior, Super, Turbo, Alpha, etc.

At first I was wondering, "What cultures are being maligned? You're not mad about the depiction of Italians, are you?" Then I remembered Si and Am. (And, yes, the Siamese cats are named Si and Am.)

I mean, yeah, it is pretty malicious. They're evil Asians for the sake of being evil Asians. It's not like we were at war with Thailand or anything. At the same time, it's still odd that Lady and the Tramp is a film which requires a warning. If that had been meant as racist propaganda, I don't think children would have seen them as anything other than mean cats.

Ocarina of Time, at least in terms of tone, was perfect for Legend of Zelda. It had moments of levity. It had moments that were dark. It mostly felt cool and adventurous. Playing as a kid making curious facial expressions kinda loses that cool factor.

Basically, Link needs to be Robin Hood and not Peter Pan.

If that were true, we'd have already started World War III by now.

it's a shame that Roger Ebert never saw Steel.

He saw Kazaam and noped out of watching Shaq's other cinematic venture. He did the same thing with Hulk Hogan and his film career. He sat through No Holds Barred, but never reviewed any of the others.

Whether as a written solo review or back and forth banter on Siskel & Ebert at the Movies, it undoubtedly would have made for a great review. Had it been on Siskel & Ebert, I'm sure one of them would have pretended to have liked parts of the movie just to spite the other.

If it's a bad adaptation of an intellectual property you dislike, I understand being upset because it prevents you from getting a good version. You can't watch new Star Wars movies that are good if they're only making bad ones.

In the case of something like pro wrestling, the inane "it's not wrestling, it's sports entertainment" attitudes of the people running the WWE made the show impossible to watch. Had there been a WCW, NWA, WCCW, or ECW, I would have gladly watched that instead. But since TNA and indy wrestling were the only other offerings, there might as well have been no alternatives at all. It was a veritable monopoly.

It's like being forced to choose between piss-flavored beer and no beer at all.

Will the VHS tape of GoldenEye be replaced with a Blu-ray?

I thought the title said Golden Eye is Black.

I was expecting to see an optional reskin of Bond where he's Black -- maybe even a character modeled after Idris Elba. Or as close as one could get to Elba without paying likeness rights.

For the record, Ariel's design is copied from one of the mermaids in Peter Pan. There's still a chance you could get to see the classic redhead look in a live action movie.

The refuse to be around each other. If I accept my father's help on Thursday, my mother gets mad because it means I'm choosing his help over hers. But they can't help me at the same time because they're not on speaking terms. So I'm practically having to schedule who gets to help me and on what day.

Honestly, I consider Daredevil to be the cutoff point. If I liked a superhero movie better than Daredevil, it's a good movie. If I like it less than Daredevil, it's a bad movie.

Daredevil isn't that bad. It's just middle of the road.

I haven't seen Green Lantern yet, but it looks awful.

I have a new house.

Both parents want to help me with it -- moving, restoration, etc.
They aren't talking to each other. (The context of that is personal.) So I'm having to go back and forth between whose help I accept and when.

Easily. Young people need to get out and vote.

Every four years, we have new eligible voters on our side.
Every four years, more of the other side dies off.

It's just a matter of getting out and doing what needs to be done. There's no sense letting the majority live in fear of 30% of this nation. Even if they threaten civil war, that may just be the cost of freedom for all.

No. He holds her attention so that Jason can sneak up behind her and kill her. The whole movie skirts around that.

He tries to kill someone but his powers haven't returned to him yet. He tries to kill someone but Jason kills them first. He cuts Kelly Rowland but doesn't kill her. He mind controls someone who is then killed by Jason. He killed the protagonist mother, but it was a flashback and not an active event in the movie. He finally kills a teen. And then he distracts Kelly Rowland so that Jason can kill her.

I think they did it just to see if anyone would notice.
