In some of the fights I felt like they were going for a similar tone as the Netflix DareDevil series, where Batman sometimes messes up and makes mistakes during the fights, actually gets hit by the thugs at times, and is kinda more forced to his limits while needing to fight from a recovery state... but gives it more of a sense of tension and grounds the combat in the movie. Instead of Batman perfectly executing every move during every fight, which looks cool but makes it feel like he's never in any danger. In addition to making things more dynamic, I also felt like it made some of the moments in the final battle even more awesome because it felt like Batman was operating at 100% efficiency, which was needed in those stressful moments, to take down some of the enemies with rapid precision before they could overwhelm him.

I think a good example is how the Dorne plot was uh... wrapped up. If you could call it that.

So the Sand Snakes I guess they just kill Doran Martell and then take over the country somehow. And then they go and join forces with Dany before immediately being killed off by the Ironborn. I dunno, something tells me that this is not going to happen in the books. But even then, what can you take away from it?

Is Dorne going to ally with Dany in the books? Or did this just get folded into the plot because they decided to cut Aegon completely? Maybe in the books the Dornish are going to ally with Aegon instead. This actually seems likely, given the direction the books are going. But maybe it's nobody at all, and D&D just decided to pair them up with Dany because "it would be cool." Are the Sand Snakes really going to assassinate Doran Martell? Or will it be someone else? Or maybe no one at all. Maybe they just cut their losses because they messed up the plot so badly they wanted to essentially jettison all of the dead weight as fast as possible.

There's seriously no indication that anything which happened in the show might even remotely resemble anything that happens in the books. For all we know they might have gotten the most vague confirmation that the Gravedigger is indeed the Hound, and then they made up all of the rest of that shit on their own because the actor is really good and he was a popular character they wanted to use for more fanservice.

Still, even years later, we can all come together in unity and shit on this terrible, awful show and laugh about how bad it was and discuss how it ruined its own legacy. So there is still some entertainment value there.

the idea of spending any money on setting up a virtual avatar or streaming equipment, and then getting like 3 views after investing all of that effort into it, is one of the main reasons I would avoid ever even bothering to attempt it.

ctes point is actually correct, but his argument for it was not very good. it's actually true that the hound should not have fought gregor in the end; a song of ice and fire is an anti war story. the entire point of the hound's character arc is that he walks away from battle in one final act of defiance before going to live a peaceful life. in the end he won because he escaped the cycle of violence, revenge, and hatred.

'and then some random bandits came and he had to become a badass again' is some action movie hero shit, and has no place among the themes of what this story was supposed to be about. if the book actually does go this way I'll be a little bit disappointed, but I do have faith that GRRM could do a better job of writing it than D&D. however, like a lot of stuff that happened in the last half of the TV series, I'm not considering that it's any indication of what is canon, because D&D were clearly just making up whatever they wanted, and so it's tough to say if any specific plot point is from the outline of where the story was supposed to go or if it's just something they added because people think the idea of 'cleganebowl' is cool.

it's a hololive specific thing

https://damecon.github.io/HoloSort/

people were posting their lists on the first page of this topic, 3 months ago. I wanted to see how much the HoloX girls (lui, chloe, and laplus in particular) had improved. they had just debuted when we all did our rankings. so I redid my rankings and compared against my earlier list.

edit; I should also mention that while this list might be arbitrary for some people, I don't think that's the case for me. I've watched probably 5-10 hours worth of material even from my least watched HoloJP members. so really the entire top 70% of this list is based on impressions that were formed by watching someone for longer than a typical season of airing anime. and many of them I have watched far more than that.

I did an updated ranking, not going to post the full list but here are the notables;

Sora retakes the throne, rising to 1st Place. Miko and the Triangle maintain their respective positions, each falling one place just to make room for Sora. It was probably a combination of her performance at HoloFes and also just me watching a lot more of her streams lately that made me realize that she is indeed probably my favorite overall Holo...

(And yes I know it's not fair that the Triangle still gets to be on the holo ranking, but it's not my fault. I didn't make the program.)

Suisei rises a bit to 4th (I've been really into her lately) while Marine drops from 5th to 10th (lack of streams maybe? I doubt she's any less good than she used to be. But...)

Now for the big ones:
Lui rises from 12th place to 5th place
Chloe rises by 48 spots to take the 6th place
Polka rises by 21 spots to 9th place

Honestly don't know why Polka was so low before but there were some other weird instances on my current ranking, too, so I think there's definitely a few flaws in the algorithm. Either way, I've always loved her and her standout creative energy.

Laplus raises by 23 spots to take 11th place.

Wouldn't even be surprised to see some of these HoloX members rise even further over the next year. Reine and Nene both increased by a lot in my ranking as well, for example. Also Kiara rose a lot and she might be my highest ranked EN member aside from IRyS who, let's face it, is basically a JP member that is fluent in English...

Choco also rose 10 spots and AZKi rose 19 spots. I might just be a bit hyped on AZKi recently since she officially joined holo, or it's also probably true that she's been more active in collabs and getting more clips because of this. I have always liked her, but there is probably a reason why her ranking went up so much.

I won't say too much about the people who dropped by a lot of spots. Most of them are just streamers that I didn't care much about before, and care even less about now. As I've said before, I don't watch that many EN streams or even clips, honestly. So really the bottom of my hipster list is mostly populated by EN members, the new ID girls who I haven't watched at all, and about half of the Holostars (the 3 or so I don't pay much attention to)

Can't believe how strong HoloX is.

The last time I did a full Hololive ranking was 3 months ago, at the start of this topic. Pretty much every single one of them, in just 3 months, has moved up in the rankings. Some of them WAY up. Koyori and Iroha I don't really pay that much attention to, but whenever I look at how they are doing I am really blown away. There isn't a single member of this gen who underperformed. It seems like they all pretty much surpassed expectations.

After over six generations of Hololive talents, including all of the non-JP branches, La+ still manages to be possibly the best to ever join the company at completely maintaining a character act while being a natural and highly skilled entertainer. I can't believe in spite of her strong debut, her strong personality, and the fact that she hasn't failed to live up to expectations at all, there are still two HoloX members who I like even more. That's just how powerful this gen was.

Sakamata Chloe might be one of the most iconic members to debut literally since gen 0. I can't think of anyone else since Sakura Miko who can literally just say or do anything and it instantly has potential to become a standout moment just because of her ridiculous face and voice. Not on this level. I guess you could also compare her to Korone and that is certainly a compliment. I'll freely admit I didn't really "get" Chloe at first. But once she clicks, you will realize she is a gold mine of content.

Lui does an incredible job of playing the onee-san type which is in short supply and high demand. Instead of relying on the gimmick of pretending to be a high school girl, she acts her age and still thrives in an industry that is obsessed with youth and purity. Her voice is really distinct. Also, I think Holobirds can be a bit of a forced meme at times, but Lui really is a worthy successor to the mantle of Kiara. Not to look down on any of the other JP members, but I am almost 100% certain that Lui completely dwarfs them all in her ability to comprehend and even speak nearly fluent english. Her level is not as high as Kiara's JP speaking ability, but it's for sure good enough that she can host english only streams that aren't just a meme, and she collabs with EN members with no trouble.

I wouldn't be surprised if all of these three had already moved into my top 10. How did they find talents on this level, this late into the game? I feel like the debut of HoloX has pretty much shown we are not even close to scraping the bottom of the barrel yet. New talents at or even above the current benchmark for top tier are still debuting, probably even today on some channel with only 10 views.

I am probably going to talk about all of the NijiEN talents as well, but HoloX had been on my mind for a bit longer and I wanted to get around to writing down my thoughts here first.

It's still good. The ability to randomly generate lessons to complete every single day has some serious value, even if the lessons aren't always great. It's just not that amazing at helping you make progress unless you have something else that you're doing to help you with learning.

The reason you'll hit a wall without any outside forms of study is because duolingo starts pretty frequently asking questions that you have no way to answer aside from just getting it wrong, seeing the right answer, and then repeating it back without understanding why this is the correct way to say it and why other ways are wrong. Going into the "Discuss" page and reading the comments can often help a lot, as the users there will often give a very detailed explanation about the proper answer for a question.

But Duolingo itself does not give these, there's many vocab questions where you can't discuss anything, as well as memorization questions that don't even fully clarify what the correct answer was. The text-to-speech for japanese is fucking awful. It speaks faster than many native japanese speakers and has a habit of leaving off part of the first syllable of words, as well as constantly changing between different character voices, half of which are disruptive toward comprehending what they are actually saying. And then, on vocab questions for example, it won't clear up this misunderstanding. It just says "Correct" and you move on to the next question. But like, say there was a syllable in the middle of the sentence or word that was unclear due to the shitty text to speech. Well, guess what, there's NO way confirm what the correct pronunciation was.

The need to constantly stop in the middle of lessons to look up external information will really burn you out, but especially so if you're ONLY relying on Duolingo and wouldn't even know where to look to find the right answers.

Anybody have duolingo exp? I tried a very long time ago but that didn't last long and I'm wondering if there's another beginner friendly way to ease into at the start

It's okay as a supplement but it cannot be your only source of learning or you will barely learn anything and will eventually start hitting a wall. For comparison, after watching some lessons on basic japanese grammar, I probably improved my japanese reading, comprehension, listening, and even speaking ability more in the course of 1-2 months than I did over the span of the previous I don't even know how many years.

I have been using Duolingo but I FREQUENTLY encounter stuff on there which I know would be frustrating as hell and I know I would not understand it if I didn't already have a foundation of grammar. Additionally, duolingo won't really teach you kanji, hiragana, or katana. It will TEST you on these things, to some extent, but if you just memorize the exact words and phrases they teach you it will essentially give you the ability to parrot back the correct answers while learning nothing about how japenese is actually spoken. And, you will find, you don't even internalize or remember how to read or write with most of these characters outside of the context of spotting something you already know in a duolingo testing environment.

They just restructured the lesson plans for japanese recently and honestly I think the early lessons are WORSE than they were before. However, after a point, you will reach a section where the end of most lessons will start testing you on grammar and sentence construction. In my opinion this is the most useful, and one of the most valid, contributions that Duolingo has given me aside from just being an excuse to make sure I think about reading, writing, speaking, and listening japanese for a few minutes each day. But the sentence construction questions are the best, and they often test your ability to form a completely new sentence that wasn't featured earlier in the lesson, but uses the vocab and particles you picked up along the way.

I also think I would be completely at a loss trying to answer those questions if I hadn't taken japanese grammar study. By the way, some of this basic, foundational shit, for some reason doesn't even get taught in formal japanese courses. So yeah, it's pretty wild. It seems the way people try to teach and try to learn japanese outside of japan is pretty ineffective. But if you find the right methods, you can make a lot of progress really fast. Especially if you have a history of listening to conversational japanese for most of your life, even if you didn't understand what the hell they were saying without subtitles most of the time...

Best: I don't even know anymore at this point. Any good memories I had of the show are long gone.
Worst: S7 E6: Beyond the Wall

Robazoid actually nailed it in the very first post. This episode is just awful. As bad as the later seasons are, I barely cared about the show anymore at that point. Every single thing that happens in this episode is truly atrocious:

Arya for some reason is dumb enough to believe that Sansa wrote a message begging Robb to surrender for literally any other reason than the fact that she was a 12 year old girl being beaten and held hostage by the lannisters.

The half-baked plan to capture a Wight in order to bring it to Cersei to try and convince her to join sides with them is something that a 4 year old would have known would never work and, indeed, it did not work. I think Tyrion (especially Book Tyrion) is not as smart as he believes himself to be, but there's no way he is THIS dumb.

So, they send a bunch of people to trudge north of the wall wandering in essentially a random direction to try and capture a wight. Mm... Hm... Okay then. It feels like maybe there was something they could have done instead, but let's see... so they get into a situation where they fight a few wights and then... they don't capture any of those ones... okay... so they keep going and get into a situation where they are being chased and... hold on a second... so Gendry is sent to run back to the wall to get help, but... if Gendry can escape to the wall by outrunning the wights, then why doesn't everyone do that...? Well, at least we can take shelter in this huge open area in the middle of nowhere, that will allow us to easily be surrounded. Wait, that wasn't a good idea? Crap. By the way, Gendry was able to run back to the wall in like just a few hours or something. Holy shit that guy is fast. No wonder he was able to get away from the Wights and nobody else could.

Oh yeah, here comes Dany, flying in on her dragons to save every-.... hold on... flying in on her dragons? wait a second... why didn't she just fly in on her dragons and capture a wight to begin with? oh, by the way, uh benjen is alive. actually now he's dead. the end.

really fucking dumb shit.

(by the way; there was no guarantee that whatever magic was animating the wights would continue to work after they were south of the wall. meaning they might have gone through all of this and then as soon as they got back it just turned into a lifeless corpse anyway.)

Nice! I've only heard of Itoi before out of that group. I'll have to check out some of the others.

I found out about Ashino through Akirose (Hololive). But through watching Ashino I found out about other indies like Edo Lena and Itoi. Although apparently Itoi is hololive-adjacent as well, I just found that out like... while writing this post.

On that note what's really interesting is that I'm pretty sure I just found out about Kotone through discovering her naturally, and I was only aware later that she had strong connections with people like Sora and Polka.

if I think something is stupid, I'm going to call it stupid. and I think I did a sufficient enough job of explaining why I feel that way. so it's not like there was no reason for my post, or that it was completely invalid.

I mean, if it did apply to kateee, I'm not going to feel bad about calling that person stupid anyway. and if it doesn't apply then... why would you be offended about me calling a totally unrelated person stupid? in fact, they don't seem offended at all. only you are offended on their behalf.

I genuinely don't think it's possible for me to understand the 'I'll never watch vtubers/I never thought I would watch vtubers' mind set because, no offense, it just seems exceptionally.... stupid? Unless a person 100% does not watch any kind of streamer or even content creator at all, then I might give them a pass.

But it's like a streamer, or content creator, is making the exact kind of content that you enjoy watching. But I guess the fact that they have an incredibly impressive tech set up that allows them to project a virtual avatar, this, for some reason, makes them less worth watching? I really don't get it. It makes no sense.

I guess it has to do with nerd culture becoming more 'pop nerd culture' over time. Actual nerd stuff like enjoying science and technology -- like the ability to create a virtual avatar that tracks your movements and maps them to a 2D or even 3D model in real time -- is not appealing to the current gentrified version of nerd culture.

Yeah an additional season would benefit some of these specific series a lot, and I could see tsurezure children and nozaki-kun being the type that would both be improved by having the anime extended -- similar to how kimi to boku gets better in the second season.

That being said I've "only" seen 270~ anime, and some of these are movies, repeat entries, or very short series... so the top end of my list isn't TOO competitive. It's really only the top three and the Gundam trilogy that are definitive for me. While that number does seem high, if you compare me to any group of dedicated anime watchers, my 270 is usually the lowest of anyone in the group.

You basically have two types; First, the lists which contain all of the universally agreed on best material out of the set of series which are encouraged by any anime and non-anime fan to watch. Then, you have the lists that basically contain mostly (or all) series that you would only see if you went out of your way to introduce yourself to series in your own free time, outside of that set.

There's a bit of middle ground between the two since anime is becoming more mainstream over time and the identity of this set is changing each year. Someone who follows airing anime every season, but only watches the top discussed shows, is going to have a different list than someone who doesn't even follow every airing season of anime but watches a wide range of obscure material released over the course of the last few decades.

I'm not saying that if you don't watch every anime released every season, or scour the archives of years past looking for the most hidden gems, that you're not a true anime fan. Just noticing that the more and varied materials a person has seen, the larger number of titles they have to draw from when constructing their list. And the lists generally seem to reflect this trend.

Anyway I'm not too good with hard A>B statements so making a top list is always tough for me, but I took some anime from the ones that I've scored 10/10 and tried to make some sense out of it.

First three are almost certainly in the top 3, and are probably in this order:
Gunbuster : Great story, pacing, voice acting, and characters. Might be the one true masterpiece of anime. Noriko best.
Aku no Hana : Super underrated anime. I love the anime and manga for different reasons, but some people who are too attached to the manga can't enjoy the anime. Nakamura best.
Nichijou : One of the most creative and comprehensive comedy series I've ever seen, anime or otherwise. An already strong source material was elevated to legendary status by good directing and quality. Not sure who is best here, too many great and funny characters.

The rest are all probably in my top 10 but in no particular order. They don't compare particularly well as a 1:1 against each other in most cases.

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun : Probably second to only Tsurezure children in how well done and non-formulaic the romance is. But this show is better overall and does benefit from focusing on a centralized cast of ensemble characters, so it actually makes the top 10 list. Not sure who is best here. Seo maybe?

Haikyuu : The ideal of what every sports series should try to be. And, indeed, this is one of those shows that you have to stress is so amazing that ANYONE should be able to enjoy it. Even if you have no interest in volleyball, you would love Haikyuu and its characters. No best character. To even give a top 10 characters in haikyuu would be a topic of its own.

Attack on Titan : This is the one show you could reasonably find on any list from a casual watcher to someone who has seen over 200 anime. The level of quality that goes into Isayama's writing is so amazing that this show is appreciated by just about any type of anime fan or indeed any fan of just storytelling in general. All that being said, it's my personal opinion that the manga is better. Though the anime is still good enough to be in my top 10, so that's not to say it's bad or anything. Best character varies depending on the point in the story.

Kids on the Slope : This is the one I can honestly say I'm not sure is actually in my top 10, but it might technically make the cut just depending on how much I want to include repeats of other stuff, and would likely lose its spot as I see more anime that could potentially push it down the list. It's still very good in its right, has some amazing moments, but doesn't grab me like everything else on this list.

Kimi to Boku : If there's one hipster pick on my list, this is definitely it. It's also the biggest financial flop on the list, and isn't particularly even loved by any type of cult following. The studio had already produced or been contracted for two seasons, and after the first season completely bombed and sold essentially nothing, they actually went through with making the second season anyway. I'm really grateful for that because every episode of this show is fantastic, and it gets even better in the second season. Kaname is the best character.

Mobile Suit Gundam Movies 1-3 : Didn't want to list these as three separate entries but I legitimately still love this movie trilogy and think it compares favorably against any other mecha that I have seen. This is the only one of my top mecha series which was NOT influenced by Ideon -- although it was made by the same creator of Ideon so that's worth noting. I actually think Amuro is probably the best character, since he is essential to conveying the themes of this story.

Futari wa Pretty Cure(?) : To be honest it's probably more accurate to say that at least one Pretty Cure series is somewhere in my top 10 list, but it's getting difficult at this point to tell you which PreCure series would be my favorite. The original one still holds a really special place in my nostalgia zone, but it's tough to deny that some of the later entries were able to utilize the higher quality of modern anime production to produce some amazing works. I don't even know if I can still definitely say "Honoka and Nagisa are the best" anymore and that... is probably a good thing! It means that a show that I loved was able to produce a legacy that actually meets my expectations.

Kinda amusing that I said less about my top 3 than anything else, but I think when I started the list I was thinking I didn't want to make this post into a whole thing. And then by the end, it turned into one...

There are also many honorable mentions. So many of my 9/10 series have moments that I've enjoyed just as much or more than the material from my 10/10 series, but maybe contained some elements that I didn't like as much. Not to mention the 10/10 series I couldn't fit onto this list. And then there's stuff like Ideon which I massively enjoyed, and is an influence on pretty much every one of my favorite mecha series that came after it, but is a little too dated, slow paced, and drawn out to truly be considered a 10/10 show or even close. Evangelion also deserves an honorable mention as a franchise that I love but is split up between so many different works of varying appeal and quality that I couldn't figure out how to fit it onto this list.

I'd have to estimate but it's probably less than my gaming habits would suggest. Hell, when I was a kid, I barely ever got to play new games and I just played the same stuff over and over again because it's not like we could afford ten new games a year or whatever.

Despite being 35, and gaming my entire life, I was thinking my number is probably only around 300 or even lower. Like half of those years I probably played less than 10 games a year. The 100-300 range actually works pretty well for this.

Furry/Best: As someone who is not into either of these things, I do understand why they are lumped together. All of the furry/best/anhro tags have one thing in common and that is animal genitalia, which is something that is an immediate turn off for me.

Drawings: It's not surprise that this the most popular response but I have a suspicion that anyone who is into drawn or animated porn is PROBABLY into at least one of the other more weird/extreme things that come with it. Then again there really is a lot of softcore hentai images so maybe there are lots of people who get off to just that.

S&M: I am into this stuff to some extent but I don't think it's in the same way that people of the S&M community really enjoy this fetish. I wouldn't count myself as an S&M enjoyer, but I do enjoy some sadistic and masochistic elements in sexuality.

Feet: I didn't really used to get this one and in fact just looking at feet kinda weirded me out for some reason. That being said, I actually started to enjoy this 'fetish' as I got older. Although, once again, I think it's in a different way than other people. The idea of giving a foot massage to someone is pretty intimate and even sexual, and I can definitely get into that. But like just seeing pictures of feet or where feet is the emphasis don't do anything for me.

Urine/Scat/Diapers: Pissing stuff is pretty great but anything that involves scat is no good for me. Instant turn off. Well, the idea of people just pissing on each other isn't really that hot but I enjoy anything to do with wetting.

Vore: Never understood this one.

Necro/Gore: Ehhh.... I can say I am not the 1 person who voted for this. But depending on how you define it, this might apply to me. I've always found characters to be more attractive in a weird way when they are a bit injured. Maybe it has to do with the scenario, like a person being more attractive after they just finished a battle or something. It probably also appeals to my 'caregiver' fetish since I enjoy taking care of people, especially people that I'm intimate with. Helping to tend to their injuries is an inherently romantic and even sexual scenario for me.... Anything that is visually extreme is usually no good, but it's tough to say for sure where that line is.

Something Bad or Embarrassing: I don't think I feel shame or embarrassment in the same way that other people do. Well, look at all that I just wrote. I think you did a good job of covering all of the fetishes that people would think are bad, but it wouldn't suprise me if I have some that aren't listed here. Just nothing I can think of right now.

Other: Incest maybe? This one is weird because a lot of people say that this is gross and they hate it, but it's also one of the most popular fetish. So.... some of those people are lying. It wouldn't sell if nobody liked it.

To be honest there aren't very many streams I watch. Especially not in 2022. There's just not that many times when I feel like sitting and doing nothing for an hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, or even longer just to watch someone stream. Sometimes it can be nice background noise when I'm multi-tasking, but it's pretty rare when I have some kind of multi-task activity I want to do, and I don't already have some other background noise lined up, and a person happens to be streaming at that exact time and doing something I'm interested in.

One of the big advantages of vtubers is just how much of their content gets clipped. Really easy to watch short, funny videos that highlight the best moments of their streams without having to watch 4 hours of content.

With that being said, my priority tier list probably looks something like this.

S
Delutaya; Partially driven by scarcity and also just the fact that I enjoy her style of content and her delivery. She's been talking for a long time about getting a new Live2D and still hasn't done it, so I'm not sure if she's fully relevant to this discussion. Goes months at a time without streaming on youtube, although supposedly she's trying to do it once a month now and has been doing it since she said that. Whenever Delutaya streams, if I notice it, I pretty much drop whatever I'm doing and put it on.

A
Tenjin Kotone; Has two main contributing factors in her favor. First, she streams an insane amount. I think it's probably true that she takes days off her and there, but I swear sometimes it feels like she streams every single day, and sometimes multiple times a day. Her average number of streams per week feels like it's 8 or higher, although it might not actually be. I enjoy most of her content, and she is one of the most likely vtubers that I watch who will actually be streaming at any given time. There are some streams like Apex or Dead by Daylight that I will never watch, and in spite of that, she streams SO MUCH that she is probably my 1st or 2nd most watched vtuber based on all of her other content.

Tokino Sora; Sora doesn't stream as much as Kotone but she streams at the perfect time for my schedule. It's essentially very early in the morning in my time zone, the time when I normally wake up, when nothing is open, and no one that I know is awake. The number of times that I wake up, and I notice Sora is streaming, and I think 'oh hey, I want to watch this' has contributed to her being my 1st or 2nd most watched vtuber at this point.

B
Any Live Music Streams; I don't normally watch Karaoke stuff unless it's from one of the three listed above. But whenever someone does a live musical performance, if I see that it's happening, and I have free time... I usually at least consider watching it. One of the main things that got me into vtubers is music, and I still really enjoy watching live shows. Especially when it comes to specific performers. Obviously there are so many lives from so many different vtubers that I can't watch them all, but this is still one of the main styles of content that I would actually watch. I try to catch these live whenever possible, but this is also the kind of thing where I have watched more archives of lives that I missed than archives from any other kind of stream.

There are probably some honorable mentions that I could give, or a C tier of streamers that I've actually watched more than 2 of their streams. Beyond that, there's also a lot of people that I've watched at least one of their streams. This is usually driven by either curiosity, having nothing else to do and finding a person who is streaming when no one else is, or if a person is streaming something in particular that I find REALLY interesting. But anything at that level it usually comes down to 'just wait until someone else clips it.'

Also worth mentioning that Ame song selection and performance were so good that multiple JP members (Watame, Subaru, maybe more?) said they thought it was Ame's own original song until they learned what it was.

She wasn't a top tier singer or dancer but she made it so quintessentially Ame that it felt like she actually owned the song.

From what I've seen Sora/Suisei and other known top end singers lived up to the hype.

Sora, yes. I've seen a number of her live performance and she still impresses me every time. This one was no exception.

Suisei... well, also yes. She always kills it. But if you want to see her REALLY kill it you should check out AkiRose's alice in wonderland live recently where Suisei played the queen. She was surrounded by other powerful singers who had been on stage for the last 40 minutes, and still, as soon as Suisei comes out at the end it feels like she just dominates the entire act. Literally a queen.

Honestly you should just watch it anyway cause it's a great live and it's free...

Yeah Moona was Day 1 and she was one of the top performers that day. I wasn't -quite- as hyped about it as some other people but that probably just comes down more to my personal tastes. Honestly all three of the ID girls did amazing. You can really see the potential of them doing more live events in the future, and now that they have 3D models hopefully we get to see that.

From the sounds of it, the Day 1 concert is incredibly hype.

day 1 and day 2 were both good. though my memories of day 2 are obviously more fresh.

main thing I remember about day 1 is enjoying suisei and azki.

day 2 had really energetic kiara, you will see memes of her awesome kick. pretty sure I've seen some already. amazing risu singing, possibly the best singer of today's group. I also thought iofi's choreography was legitimately top tier but I didn't see anyone else talking about it so maybe it was just me who felt that way. some dancers don't move enough, others move around way too much with pointless movements. it felt like iofi had the perfect amount of motion, tons of character and personality to her movements, and her stage presence was very smooth and natural looking.

I thought aki and roboco also had strong solo performances, and the sora+roboco song was good too. from what I saw a lot of people liked the sora+roboco even more than I did...!

that being said you could definitely feel that rushia was missing from the concert. every person for Halloween Night would have been there and it didn't escape my notice that Shion and Ayame seemed to have fewer songs. seems like that song most likely got cut and possibly any duet that would have involved rushia. the day was shorter overall.

mel and choco were cute, and cute together, but I think I've seen enough of their performances at this point that it didn't really blow me away or anything. similarly, boton and flare did a good job, I have nothing bad to say about their solo songs, but they weren't on the same level as the people I specifically gave praise to.

on that note...

sora's solo performance was just next level. probably had the best combination of strong singing, dancing, playing to the crowd, energy levels, even being aware of the camera angles during her performances. step and go is a great song to perform in front of an audience like this and it shows that even her song selection was top tier. A+ across the board...

voltch posted...
Seems like it's going to pretty significantly enhance what their models can do, so they won't just be standing with the arms by the side.

I've seen Sora and Miko... possibly others, but definitely those two... experimenting with hand tracking technology and other weird tech since at least mid 2021, maybe even early 2021? Wonder if this new tech is an extension of that?

the cool/interesting thing about pyromancy in dark souls 2 is that it scales with int and faith but it doesn't have requirements from either. this means that spell and miracle builds can both incorporate pyromancy into their rotation, but it also means that builds with NO magic investment at all can still use a +SpellSlot ring and make use of certain pyromancy. either for utility functions or other reasons.

there should be a vendor that sells repair powder especially if you're at/near the end of the game. also what I normally try to do on a NG file in any souls game is to have a weapon that upgrades with titanite and a different weapon that upgrades with either twinkling titanite or dragon scales. that way I can have two different fully upgraded weapons for use while exploring and they don't compete over resources while progressing through the game. that way if your durability starts to get low you can equip a different weapon.

I was feeling kinda burnt out on Souls by the end, but maybe Ill check out the DS2 dlc stuff after seeing all this praise

bring Warmth if you can. should be possible even on a minimum attunement build by simply equipping a Ring that gives you spell slots. all three of the DLC areas are proper dungeon crawls and the value of being able to stop, rest for 30 seconds, and heal yourself up without using Estus is pretty helpful. buying 99 life gems is another solution. normally I'd cast Warmth and then use a life gem to get my health back up quickly between encounters, and save my fast estus healing or my slightly less fast life gem healing for restoring HP during combat.

it's also been a while since I've played but if I remember correctly most of the enemies in all three DLC areas have pretty good resistance against magic and faith builds, but they are susceptible to physical attacks as well as dark damage. I know in Shulva if you're running any kind of spell build it's pretty much worth it just to make one of the weapons that scales your Intelligence stat as physical damage because the enemy resistance to magic damage is so high. miracle builds have to rely on hexes and dark weapons.

Throne Watcher and Defender are awesome, but severely undertuned. They were one of the most challenging boss fights in my Soul Level 1 run. The problem is that in a normal run you are so powerful that they are too easy to defeat, and you can't really get a sense for what the actual boss fight mechanics are. In fairness, this problem applies to a lot of the endgame and final bosses in pretty much most of the Souls games.

So yeah while Nashandra and the Scholar are also disappointing, I don't think this is a feature that is unique to Dark Souls 2. The real King Allant fight, Mergo's Wet Nurse, the Moon Presence, Nashandra, the Scholar. Gwyn has presentation and style on his side but I think he's considered to be relatively easy. Only the final boss of Dark Souls 3 is, mechanically speaking, challenging enough for a fully realized endgame build.

They always take the best of the previous and try some new things. That's what makes the series so good. Everyone has their favorite for whatever reason, but you can't deny they're all great.

Yeah it's an incredible franchise and I agree that all of the games are pretty great in their own way. Even my least favorite one, which is pretty clear to me, I have played it plenty just because it has a really well designed online experience.

Some of the features I don't enjoy about Dark Souls 3 were "needed" to attract a casual fan base who would continue to play the game over a long period of time. Now the launch of Elden Ring might have killed the player base, I'm not sure, I haven't personally checked yet. But the fact that even very recently you could still easily, and almost INSTANTLY get invasions in Dark Souls 3 kinda spoke for itself. I was willing to accept the bad things just for the fact that it was still possible to play the game with other people after so long.

As much as I love Bloodborne, and I wouldn't change Bloodborne, the reality is that you can't find any kind of invasions or online play without going to a dedicated message board like the tomb prospectors or the hunter's bell and finding people to play with.

And even if I don't like many of the bosses in Dark Souls 3, they are still sitting in a league of their own, an order of magnitude above some of the crap you find in other games where you just spam the square button until the enemy HP Sponge finally dies.

Anyway that's a bit of a ramble but I think at this point finding a topic where I can vomit a wall of text about Bloodborne (or the Souls games) is one of the few ways to draw me anywhere near the Post New Message button....

the more time that passes the more ridiculous dark souls 2 haters look. literally remember at the time one of the big complaints was that the game 'punishes you too much' by reducing your Max HP when you die. a mechanic which is now featured in 3 out of the 4 games with "Souls" in their title. out of those, Dark Souls 2's health mechanic is the most forgiving one; it only reduces your hp by a small % with each death, but allows you to completely refresh it with a single consumable which you find all over the place.

that being said I do agree that dark souls 2 should not have been the sequel to dark souls 1. it should have been demon's souls 2. feels incredibly obvious; both games have a hub world that splits off into four separate dungeon paths. once you clear all four of the main branches, you unlock the endgame section. the ability to warp directly into any of the previously reached archstones or bonfires without needing to walk everywhere. it's a huge difference which sets them apart from the dark souls 1 'interconnected world on a loop' philosophy.

the main thing that dark souls 2 builds onto the classic demon's souls formula is that there's just a ton more content. like, way more. I do understand that the game has a bit of filler but I also think if you removed all of the filler areas there would STILL be an incredible number of well designed areas, and they did manage to make it so that the most important areas in the game are usually the ones that got the attention they deserve. shulva and the brume tower in particular are some of the best dungeons, and they're balanced around the end game. this extends the amount of content you can enjoy while playing the game after you've reached the point where you should be most satisfied with your completed build. eleum loyce is a bit of a mixed bag with some incredible moments but more 'this is just annoying' sections than any other dungeon in the game.

(this change would also make dark souls 3 into the actual dark souls 2, which makes a lot more sense, because it's basically intended to be as directly influenced by dark souls 1 as possible...)

though in bluepoint's defense I will say that fixing the issues with demon's souls would take a lot more work. most of them have to do with balancing.

fixing the problems with bloodborne would be easy because there are few very and for the most part they would literally only take a few lines of code to fix. honestly a bit disappointed that we didn't even get a patch with the old hunter's DLC for some of these things;

1. bold hunter's mark can take you back to the workshop OR to the lamp
2. instead of going lamp > workshop > lamp you can travel between any two lamps like in dark souls 2 and 3
3. fix the glitch that causes half of the chalice dungeon layouts to become locked out of your dungeon pool if you open too many of the different coffins in ailing loran root
4. fix the glitch that causes a +21% Bolt/+5 Fire Damage gem to convert your weapon to Fire instead of Bolt. this is obviously just an issue with the priority order for converting weapon damage but it arbitrarily makes Bolt gems MUCH harder to farm for because any +Fire damage becomes an immediate brick stat even worse than a typical curse effect

you could also do things like give back iosefka the lines of dialogue that were already recorded and put into the game, but she never actually speaks. or adding bosses who are missing from the chalice dungeon pool into at least one of the dungeon boss pools.

yeah I had a list of things where I would have been happy if they had made even one of those changes and of course they made none of those changes. here's to hoping in 10 years the bloodborne remake will make a few of the most simple adjustments that would fix major problems with the game.

it's pretty obvious that people tend to have an attachment toward their first Souls game. these two statements back to back speak for themselves:

Solfadore posted...
I'm about 75% into Demon's Souls, which is the only one I haven't beaten, but I doubt it breaks out of the bottom position.

From a technical perspective, Dark Souls is not as good as the games that came after, but I have to give it the edge just for how it solidified an entire genre and defined the decade that came after.

for me it's absurdly obvious that the second statement applies just as much to Demon's Souls, if not more, than Dark Souls. but I guess since I played Demon's Souls first that is easier for me to recognize. and despite the game being the most clunky and having the worst bosses, I still rate it in the top half.

to answer the topic Bloodborne is almost certainly the best and there's a reason why it's usually among the top 2 or 3 picks for anyone who has a complete ranking. actually, many reasons.
