I guess this one would take place in the old world or something since there isn't any kind of monarchy in the sanctuary iirc.

I might try the Symphonia remaster, BotW 2, Pikmin 4, and/or Fire Emblem Colgate. I already forgot what Where Winds Meet is, and the rest I definitely won't play.

Probably the worst looking Fire Emblem MC's ever, and I didn't think I'd be saying this after Corrin. I wish FE would stop with the avatars. This or 3H might be my last FE's I try, but I haven't decided.

I'm glad most of the people I played MtG with weren't dicks about this. I've been asked to watch over probably thousands of dollars worth of cardboard over the years by strangers and never stole anything, nor have I had any of my stuff stolen. I'm sure it might have happened at the LGS I played at, but I honestly don't recall it ever happening to anyone I know or played with.

True. Assuming that a stranger would do the right thing is naive and I can never tell if I'm too paranoid/jaded in thinking so, or just rightfully cautious.

I take it we're only counting the Metroidvania titles? Because I do like classicvania, but probably not more than stuff like CotM and SotN. I still voted Metroid though.

I've been looking for those grapes for years or something, and I like cotton candy so I'm sure I wouldn't hate them. Thanks for reminding me TC.

TIL the Hunting Horn's Double Swing moves slightly faster if it goes counter clockwise. It's such a random/niche thing that I'm sure I'll forget next time I play HH.

Genderlocked classes returning sucked. I never thought I'd say Fates did something better than any FE but here we are.

I've been playing Monster Sanctuary all week. I beat it Thursday night and managed to 5 star all but one Champion with the team I rolled through the whole game. It was a lot of fun but man do I feel like I made it harder on myself by using stuff from just the first few hours of the game. Only have a few achievements left.

In Monster Hunter news I've been participating in the weekly speedrun topic on the main board, but this week is no augments so I have to make a new set of armor before I even start practicing.

So I got a little younger and more broke? Cool.

I just beat Monster Sanctuary last night and I'll probably keep playing it over the weekend. I just entered the new area added in an update when I stopped and even got one of the new Monsters off the first battle which was nice.

Anyone up for playing for the next two-ish hours?

This topic made me realize how few Metroidvanias I've played despite really enjoying the genre.

Which one's have you played? Outside of Metroid, Castlevania, Hollow Knight, and Bloodstained RotN I hadn't really bothered with a lot of the genre until last year. Like I think almost 90% of the MV's I played were this and last year.

I'm currently playing through Monster Sanctuary and have Astalon, Dandara, Phoenotopia: Awakening, Blaster Master Zero, and La-Mulana in my backlog. I eventually wanna get Environmental Station Alpha and Rabi-Ribi at some point because I generally hear good things about them. Also I know I already mentioned my top 2, but after thinking about it for a while here are some other favorites of mine(not counting Metroid/Castlevania/Hollow Knight) in no particular order:

Ender Lilies
Axiom Verge
Bloodstained RotN
Grime
The Messenger

Incredibly telling that Hollow Knight was excluded alongside two longstanding series with many entries.

It's one of the most popular games in the genre, if not the most. I'm sure it's also outsold most Castlevania and Metroid titles(the MV one's anyway) by now. To answer the topic title though Aeterna Noctis remains my 2nd most favorite MV while Hollow Knight's at the top. I still can't decide if I like Metroid Dread or Super Metroid more, but those and then maybe Prime to top off my list.

I see this question a lot on the Metroidvania subreddit, with the same criteria even, but my answers change a bit every time <_<

Also I like Slay the Spire and Inscryption so I'm taking note of some of these recommendations. I don't hear about a lot of these games outside of like one or two conversations on the indie board.

Anyone up for playing? I've been crown farming hard the last couple of days. I lucked out with two crowns I needed in back to back hunts after getting the guaranteed smol Astalos from the Event, plus some others I got earlier last week. I think one crown each from Valstrax, Chameleos, and Kushala Daora are all I have left from vanilla Rise.

OMG the launch got delayed again. FFS that was the thing I was looking forward to today.

Unless the investigation quests(which also brought back the first two Apexes to MR) are something you're really interested in I don't think TU1 added a whole lot if Sunbreak disappoints you. TU2 is later this month but I can't imagine it would be a big update.

This helps a lot. Your first MH will always be a learning experience. One thing to note about Rise is that we can get to Monsters so damn quick compared to World's maps that less time is spent on the actual chase. We know exactly where every Monster is on the map before we ever encounter it, Great Wirebugs and Palamutes can get you through maps faster than anything in World, Hunters themselves move a lot faster with the Wirebugs and wallrunning, and World's maps were pretty big. Even with the slinger's grappling hook shortcuts on the way I still remember that climb to the top of the Coral Highlands being horribly slow. And before anyone says it yes I know you could use the Glider Mantle as a shortcut.

It's hard to tell how much time this takes unless you actually kept track of how long you moved around the map, sniffed footprints, etc. but it obviously makes a difference going from World to Rise.

I think I'm more into Rise now than I was last year somehow, even though I don't care for Charm(and now Armor) RNG. Plus with element being relevant on damn near everything and me playing every weapon that's close to like 70 weapons that need to be made? I do prefer it this way rather than just making whatever the best raw weapon is and calling it a day with builds, but it's still a lot of work. Some of the good weapons/armor stayed good in TU1 so I kinda doubt there's gonna be an entirely new meta coming. Hell this update made lower tier shit more relevant thanks to the higher budget with Qurio crafting. What's really gonna drive me nuts is making 15 elemental Bows for when I wanna play with the other shot types.

Also fuck the 3K investigation coin award. You can't even get crowns in investigations so I can't farm the both of them during investigation quests. I now have two really grindy awards I have to do on separate occasions.

Get whatever ending while I'm playing blind for my first playthrough, and then if I like the game enough I'll come back to it later for the other ending(s).

I didn't even look, but that was fast. I don't recognize them so I dunno what they were banned for.

I played it blind for the first time this year and never found the arena. How many cards are locked behind it? Because I don't feel like I missed too many in the rest of the game, yett I still had a sizeable gap in the card page.

I might go back to it but I played that and Harmony of Dissonance back to back, and still need to try Aria of Sorrow next.

The Anomaly levels/points probably aren't being accumulated for next update right? They're definitely gonna raise the cap again and I'm wondering if I should take a break from Investigations and play something else for a while. In unrelated news I've S ranked every MR Arena quest with every weapon.

Hollow Knight's Kickstarter ended in December 18th 2014, and Godmaster released on August 23rd 2018. I don't remember when Silksong was announced to be a new game rather than DLC like originally planned, but it's apparently bigger than Hollow Knight. Add the fact that the 2d animation was done by hand, the dev team used to be just two people at the start(or maybe it still is?), and then Covid hit.

The wait sucks but it isn't too nuts to think about. The time between Cuphead's original release and its DLC was like 5 years and that wait sucked too.

Within a year of its trailer at the Xbox thing earlier this year, since iirc all games that were shown there are supposed to be added to Gamepass within that timeframe.
