Wouldn't lower apm be better since you do more with less
there's one Starcraft 2 streamer I watch that has a series where he tries to go up the ladder with as little APM as possible, and he gets pretty damn far off of 60-80 APM

APM in that game is usually ineffective APM- stuff like cycling between multiple control groups but not actually issuing orders, mashing keys way more than you have to, rapidly swapping between camera points during downtime. the game does allow you to check EPM (effective APM, so only stuff like actually issuing a move order would count, not selecting the units), and it's usually significantly lower for everyone.

I think the top end of players have 200~ EPM, with some godlike gamers like Serral averaging 300~. but you can get just a few steps away from them with half of that if you react well and have deep knowledge of the game

Rune Factory 5 is on Steam now with no performance issues, wonder if it's still worth it cause I heard the gameplay is kind of a step down from 4
It's better in some ways, the same in most ways, and worse in a couple ways. Enemy variety is way worse than 4 (because 4 reused all the sprites from 1-3), there's far less of an endgame (4 has an endless dungeon and the choice to boost monster levels), and there's no NG+. However, combat does feel better being in 3D, and the vast majority of the game's subsystems stayed the exact same despite the massive transition into 3D. The (amazing) crafting system is the exact same, field stats are the exact same, all of the weapons are well represented, etc. My only really big complaint with the game is the performance issues the switch has, which the PC version doesn't suffer from.

Besides being in 3D, the game doesn't really do much new, but I'd say it worked out remarkably well considering how ambitious it is bringing a system like RF4 to 3D and losing very little in the process.

Most of the bachelors/bachelorettes suck, but there IS a succubus waifu, which kicks ass.

Metroid is a great example
Metroid is actually a point I almost disagree with myself on actually lol. Metroid peaked with 2D sidescrolling action; the demo of Dread was great but the 3D entries of Metroid aren't shit compared to the 2D formula (which they probably felt compelled to invest in, given the times). Mega Man's another I can see; though I'm personally not a fan of any MM, we all know literally noone liked Mighty Number 9.

As someone who grew up with GBC Zelda games, both 1 and 2 feel unplayable for me. 1 feels strictly inferior to the GBC games (and the original Link's Awakening), and 2 is wat (actraiser without any gimmicks??).

You are confusing terrible for simplistic.
I think it's entirely fair to say old games don't hold up now. They literally don't. They were good for their time, but advancements in technology and gaming culture have pushed them away from the title of Best Game Of All Time. Best Game Of Their Time would be a different discussion, but I don't think saying Twilight Princess is a better game than Zelda 1 would be incorrect.

I don't think most old games hold up today, because few haven't been imitated in a superior way (either through official sequels, fan games, or spiritual successors). Even if I have my favorites among old games, I'll easily concede they're not as good as newer counterparts.

There's a bunch of VNs with JRPG gameplay. The Rance series and other Alicesoft stuff like Toushin Toshi, Castle Fantasia (it was closer to FFT though I guess), WORDS-WORTH (whose hentai spawned the meme horse head guy who had a statement to say about resistance), Ikusa Megumi.... Sakura Taisen games eventually got PC rereleases, but they were after the year 2000.

Most of those are pretty mediocre except for the Alicesoft stuff though.

Guild Wars 2's endgame dungeon system involves a bunch of parallel world and distant past/future scenarios. The Mists are a cosmic anomaly that binds everything together in a time-and-space inconsequential way, so fucky things happen involving The Mists.

Dungeon Fighter Online has a lot of time travel and parallel world shit. One class, the Knight, is deployed throughout the multiverse in search of the scattered fragments of god (and has an advanced class that is fueled by her multiverse comrades/selves). And there's a zone called Time Gate where you just participate in historical events that you canonically were part of all along because closed time loop shenanigans.

Super Robot Wars games are set in a number of different yet incredibly similar universes, with at least one character (Gilliam) being the same actual person dimension hopping around somehow across dozens of games. Another character has been shown to have the role of Time Diver, whose role is to maintain balance throughout the multiverse and across time.
