Phoooone. I feel so naked and weird without it. Its become a part of me unfortunately.

Ever been to a ski resort? Ski? Snowboard?

It's understandable! Also nice to see IJ on your shows list.

Nah I've never been to one. I wouldn't mind trying snowboarding though.

What's a music genre you've always wanted to listen to more of?

I never been in a physical fight. Does pushing someone away considered a physical fight? Someone drunk was all in my face, and I pushed them away and they fell on the ground. Thats the most physical I got with someone. Ive been chill with most people throughout my life. I dont like negative energy and people. I avoid it.

I did do backyard boxing once with a friend back in high school. That might count as a physical fight.

Do you prefer your fathers or mothers side of the family? Or both equally?

Good! I'm the same way. Try not to be aggressive towards anybody.

To be honest I'm not really close with most of my extended family either way. I guess I would say my father's side because his mom (my grandma) lived in the same apartment I did growing up. So I always had her around!

BTW your music sounds awesome!

What's something you always need with you?

TopicRank the Albums Vol. 3: Ranking Thread (Deadline: September 16)
Snake5555555555

  1. Metallica - Master of Puppets - Ive said my piece on it. Its probably my favorite album of all time.
  2. Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory - Im not sure I can point to a single other album that shaped my musical taste as much as this one. I can probably sing and mime the instruments of this album front to back without even listening to it. Its a part of me. And it still sounds SO good.
  3. System of a Down - Toxicity - I first heard Chop Suey in my dads car in 2002. I still listen to it 20 years later. I still listen to this whole fucking album front to back 20 years on. Its weird, its wonky, its hard-hitting, I still feel like theres very little like it to this day.
  4. Avenged Sevenfold - Avenged Sevenfold - About as well-composed as a modern metal band can be. Avenged Sevenfold produces some of the catchiest songs this side of rock, with a sense of pure aggression, impressively progressive riffs and song structure, and a flair for the creative as seen on their magnum opus, Little Piece of Heaven.
  5. Black Marble - Its Immaterial - Moody and packed to the brim with feeling, Black Marbles effort here is undeniable. Its a personal favorite choice - as judged by its lukewarm reactions in the topic I almost feel like its an album made specifically for me and my tastes alone. I know thats not true, but still, awash in its dreamy vocals and subdued synths, its an album I can close my eyes to at any time and get whisked away into a land of pure bliss and nostalgic sadness.
  6. Guns n Roses - Appetite for Destruction - God damn how is this shit so good?
  7. Blink-182 - Enema of the State - A truly amazing piece of pop songwriting here. I mean I have my own personal favorites I think are better of course, but can anyone objectively say pop punk has ever been done better than this right here? There are no skips, and honestly the lyrics can be pretty smart in a slacker suburban kid sort of way - like when a dumb friend says something profound on accident. Super fun.
  8. Faith No More - Angel Dust - ITS PERFECT, YES, ITS TRUE.
  9. Taylor Swift - Folklore - Some of the most emotionally beautiful tracks Swift has ever written. A huge leap in maturity though Folklore certainly suffers from a lack of catchiness and brattiness I so adore in her first few albums. I think Evermore struck a more comfortable balance but if someone were to call Folklore Swifts best album - I wouldnt necessarily argue. Its clearly the work of a masterful songwriter proving why shes the best and most fearless voice in pop music right now.
  10. Miracle Musical - Hawaii: Part II - Im so fucking glad albums like this are nominated for this series. Love how it combines retro sounds with modern techniques and the themes of the album are just incredible.
  11. Eagles - Hotel California - Yes it has its weak spots in the second half, but to kick off an album with THREE all-timers, well, this album is undeniable. The lyricism is amazing and the guitar and drum work is always tasty.
  12. Portishead - Third - Man I wish I had time to rank this one at the time. Its beats feel anxious, its vocals horror inducing, and dissonant cut-ins are heart-pounding and shocking.
  13. Japanese Breakfast - Jubilee - Be Sweet will never leave my head for as long as I live. Oh yeah, and the rest of the album is amazing too.
  14. Opeth - Damnation - Not Opeths best, but the more accessible prog rock styling that usurped prog death creates a more intimate and depressing experience thats hard not to get sucked in by.
  15. The Beatles - Rubber Soul - Yeah its The Beatles. Yeah, theyre amazing. This isnt a personal favorite Beatles album or anything, but this is still a solid catalog of songs nonetheless. Its not as flashy as later works, or as instantly catchy as prior works, but what is here is just a good batch of folk tunes you can listen to at practically any time.
  16. Dream Theater - Images and Words - A solid, occasionally jaw-dropping, debut by one of the best progressive metal bands of all time. Theres no denying this bands musical proficiency and willingness to not be pigeonholed, but this is a band that would only get better from here.
  17. VAST - Visual Audio Sensory Theater - Though the tracks blend in with one another, the album has such a strong sound that I dont even mind.
  18. The Cranberries - No Need to Argue - An album absolutely deserving of being in the 90s alt rock definitive canon. ORiordans vocals are beautiful and even occasionally reach gothically haunting heights, while a harder edge from the rest of the band brings things full circle to something gorgeously profound throughout.
  19. Love - Forever Changes - Its obviously a good album, but it doesnt feel as timeless as other 60s works. Thats okay as its swerving experimentation keeps things interesting throughout. Just loses out to other albums on here since this is a pretty solid collection of records after all.
  20. The White Stripes - Elephant - The White Stripes is one of those bands I like putting on one song at a time and enjoying a good tune. As an album, it gets drowned out in itself. Really great singles though.
  21. Peter Gabriel - So - Beautifully produced and meticulously arranged, though with no blemishes a full listen can feel sort of plain. Still, give me that Kate Bush feature any day of the week, and Sledgehammer will always be a fun one.
  22. Mos Def - Black on Both Sides - It feels a little too long and the style gets grating for me personally, still theres some damn good lyricism to be found here and I do love some of the beats.
  23. Phil Collins - Face Value - A pretty experimental record all things considered, and Phil Collins puts in solid effort as he does on all recordings. Its appropriately moody but feels occasionally lost in the sauce, a little directionless even if tracks like In The Air Tonight remind you why Phil Collins is a musical force to be reckoned with.
  24. Jack White - Fear of the Dawn - Cant go wrong with some Jack White, if you want solid guitar work and good old fashioned rock, you can do worse. Still, what makes it stand out? Not much honestly.
  25. Sunspot - Singularity - Feels like something that couldve been bigger in the 90s. Theres a bit of a local band quality to it - not trying to belittle it, because I do like some of the tracks on here, but rather its a little too safe and doesnt do anything to elevate to a next level, at least to me.

I started exercising regularly at the beginning of the year. Try to hit 30 squats a day at least, then however many push-ups & sit-ups I can do, with a brisk jog every other day and a hike once a week. Don't go to a gym though, just do it at home. It's made a good difference in my life.

Perfectly okay! I hope the album grows on you once you pay more attention to the lyrics. Jordan Dreyer, the vocalist and main lyricist, would probably agree that he's not the best singer in the world, as his background is mainly in poetry and literature.

This album absolutely wrecks me every listen. It's an album that manages to feel raw and off-the-cuff, like someone writing in a journal about their disparate memories decades after the fact, recollecting trauma and emotion in a euphoric manner, yet make no mistake, every note and strained lyric is exactly where it's meant to be, as La Dispute weaves together an impressive narrative of widespread tragedy, personal heartbreak, and the mundanities of daily life that keep the world spinning. Much like the events portrayed in the album, La Dispute bounces between the soft sounds of a daydream memory and the death-curdling racket of nightmarish pain, such as the case with the punctuated drums and delicate words of Dreyer on "Woman (reading)" giving way to an outpouring of recollection, with the same instrumentals there now more distorted and scratched as if Dreyer's memories were twisted and corrupted in some way. I use this example because I think that track captures this album's tones and messages perfectly. It's a centerpiece that perfectly captures those slow days that always meant the most to you but can never get back. Tiny dots on an endless timeline.

The album opens with "Hudsonville, MI 1956", a track that unfolds like a lurid horror novel. It depicts a recently married husband and wife taking separate trips as a tornado tears through the titular town. Dreyer's lyrics are what nightmares are made of, chock full of intense detail, veering wildly from mundane distractions like building a bookshelf to the grotesquery a woman and her unborn child being thrown into a barbed wire fence. The punctuated vocals, guitars and drums become increasingly more choppy and broken up, the desperation increasing, ands the lyrics have a double effect of signaling the very collapse of the husband and wife's union and fading passion which then unfolds out in the rest of the album's winding and spiraling narrative. The album rewards close attention as every track here calls back or forward to another in some way. There are album tracks here that are actually fully capped (HUDSONVILLE, HIGHWAYS, & CHILD) to signal where they take place which is just such a cool detail, but it's also important because this storyline runs parallel to Dreyer's own experiences with the same thing - as history repeats itself in the worst of ways. Instead of a tornado, it's a bridge collapse, and much like Dreyer's own family history he experiences the same strife and separation. Dreyer's personal tracks often tend to highlight real life as the tragedies take place in the background, such as the absolutely amazing "Stay Happy There", a near unstoppable hardcore onslaught that feels like the most terrifying argument your parents never had as details such as scouring a kitchen for a knife or coffee boiling on the stove feel as huge to an individual as a bridge collapse causing pain and horror to countless individuals. It might feel in bad taste to say that anywhere else, but the way the guitars and Dreyer screams everything out makes you believe it too.

Rooms of the House has moved me to tears and has made me rethink life in ways I never thought possible, and has been a constant present in my life ever since I heard back in 2016. Honestly my favorite track can be something different every time. Like, I think "The Child We Lost 1963" is the most lyrically proficient song on the whole album, but it's so fucking hard to listen to sometimes that I just gravitate towards other tracks sometimes. Or "Objects in Space", a spoken word entry that caps off the album, an epilogue to everything that's at once an emotional goodbye to a past life and a fresh step towards something better. Retroactively, I actually compare this album to The Caretaker's Everywhere at the End of Time. Though about different subjects, that ebb and flow of memories being lost to the void feels so apt to Rooms of the House, the subdued and contorted sounds combining into one for a whole experience unlike any other.

I was around 14 years old at the time. Serious pounding headache all day.

How about you?

Playing football in 8th grade - our gym teacher was the quarterback and he threw me a pass when of my friends charged me full speed to make sure I didn't catch the ball. It felt like I was sent 5 feet in the air. I landed hard on pavement, on my wrist and chin. It was bad, I was bleeding from my chin like a faucet and my wrist had fractured. I got stiches in my chin and wrist and I was in a cast for about a month. No hard feelings towards anyone though!

It has a good sense of mystery but good lord the pacing is atrocious. This is the only AC game to me where the real world stuff is actually more interesting than the past stuff. It sets up a cool world, it actually feels like an assassin's order in this game, and hell I still look fondly on the twist to this day so it must've did something right.
