They have to make contact with the "Natives" They do that by making like living automatons version of their Native bodies. Old white guy with buzzcut loses patience with peaceful contact. The heroes lead the "Natives " to fight back. This story has been done a ton of times. All that this added was a people who had sex with their tails, then used those same tails to connect with animals. So they were literally doing animals in order to ride them.
