Anyway, there's definitely some weird stuff that happens with use of the alternate. It gets played for first tiebreakers, which was the primary use, but then because loser's brackets inherently have more rounds than winner's brackets, it pulled double duty in the later parts of the LB. You may want to look at how the late rounds of the LB could play out, because there's room at that stage of the bracket for wanting multiple alternates. I know I pulled some weird bullshit for how to pick songs in those matches, like whichever song had the most decisive win earlier in the contest, or randomly making it a 3v3, etc.

how about this. Given the philosophy "random is fun", you can select up to say 5 tracks as your alternates, and which is used in a given tiebreaker is a roll of the dice. Maybe with a minimum of 1, maybe with higher. If you can only field the minimum or only feel you can support it, that's what you do, but it carries with it the penalty of people getting fatigued of hearing the same song from it over again and having its performance crippled in any other ties it might get into. I do think the set of main songs and the set of alternates can be kept separate

I think uf8 had Opinions but those might've just been for VGMC. I think everybody was pretty cool with how it went, more or less, so I don't think many people are likely to pop up with radical ideas. You're probably safe to start advertising and planning

I'm not fully opposed. imo if we allowed this we'd cap it at two albums/game for the contest (also mycro and i already made a pso2 set)

It's been a while since I've played 3 so I can't really speak to it specifically. I think what really bothered me about ice was how pointless so much of it was. Here's what the ending segment of it requires:

Square -> Undersquare -> Netsquare -> Netopia 2 -> Undersquare -> Netopia 2 -> Undernet 3 -> Netopia 2 -> Undernet 3 -> Netsquare -> Kotosquare

it drove me insane having to be a telephone for a dipshit navi and its sibling when half these steps could've been eliminated. Netopia to Undersquare is a hike, even if you jack out and take the Yumland shortcut

ftr, that whole portion was finding a macguffin that turned out to be entirely irrelevant too

as somebody who is close to beating MMBN2, anybody who says 3 is worse because of the backtracking is absolutely fucking insane

having some backtracking spread out with a sneakrun navicust program is so much better than hours of this ice bullshit

Making dialogue longer isn't necessarily a good thing. Regular English fiction has plenty of short exclamations in between more meaningful lines.

every line should have a purpose. if you can replace one character with pretty much any other and have them say the same thing, the line isn't serving a purpose. the stock phrase they had was filler; the replacement should at least have personality. I don't think NISA should have changed the original translation at all but it's better than wasted text. besides, we're talking about a specific instance that did deserve more than a short exclamation

direct translates are overrated. he was expressing annoyance and surprise, so anything in character that expresses that is fine. Give me anything other than a thousand "good grief"s and "haha"s

Not even that one specifically. I've seen a bunch of changed lines and the trend between all of them is to make them more generic in the same of how they correspond to the characters. Losing their voices, even considering how the characters are in the already translated games. It's the kind of thing where none are *bad*, but they're *worse*, which is silly when you're taking an already finished product

but you're 100% right that "oi oi masaka" is accurately translated to "Man, I knew this day would come... the Goddess has come down to personally punish me for my life of debauchery" yep absolutely

I've played all three Sky and Cold Steel games but I can't really muster any hype for Zero since I already know the outcome of the story. Often the journey is greater than the end but for a game series like this there's going to be a ton of filler.

I think fully cooking the games isn't really an option because they kind of thrive on low turnaround time to make profit

kuro 1 bombed. at that point they should start making lower-budget wacky standalones like they used to (except actually advertise them) and save their big titles to release when they're more finished. bonus is that it'll fatigue people less and they'll draw more people in if they're events, as well as like giving people a chance to actually catch up and making the series less impossible for newcomers to get into

yes, but "there's incest" wasn't catering in sky's case. actual mature writing at least made up for the uncomfortable scenario sky had; it's not a story of brother and sister, it's estelle and joshua, and they could've (and should've) told it with a different start. that's not marketing the game to degenerates. marketing the game to degenerates is having alisa fall on rean in the first hour of the game, an incestuous relationship that isn't developed beyond that root, minigames where you stare at underage character's bikinis, altina's fucking womb lock, loli dakimakuras, etc

you still have to put up with her adoration whenever she's on screen, and rean's gang giving him shit for not humoring and encouraging her infatuation. it's definitely not a big focus, but that also prevents it from getting developed into something at least less bad. i guess there's also tita and agate whose relationship was definitely surrogate brother/sister until it wasn't. that started in 3rd though, or at least people kept teasing it then

pso2 and ngs are fun you just have to figure out the menuing and make a conscious decision about how tryhard you want to be. you can ignore 70% of the systems in base and still have fun for a while, and NGS has enough content for a while, just not enough content for a full-ass MMO yet
