Whats the recommended play order for this series now, its hard to tell with the patched Japanese only games and prequel stuff

Part of me is excited about this, but I'm feeling a bit burned out with Trails after going through Cold Steel 3 and 4 recently. Will probably get this eventually. Plus, playing it later, I may forget more about the references that Cold Steel series did which is probably a good thing.

I saw that the Geofront translation had "This is a Bruh moment", so anything that takes that out is an A+ in my book

Not everyone can be Working Designs.

The replacement is not more accurate(if anything they embellished even more), but they did replace a meme that could date the translation down the line. Actually it might arguably be dated already.

I'd say the replacement is objectively much more creative as well.

Not even that one specifically. I've seen a bunch of changed lines and the trend between all of them is to make them more generic in the same of how they correspond to the characters. Losing their voices, even considering how the characters are in the already translated games. It's the kind of thing where none are *bad*, but they're *worse*, which is silly when you're taking an already finished product

but you're 100% right that "oi oi masaka" is accurately translated to "Man, I knew this day would come... the Goddess has come down to personally punish me for my life of debauchery" yep absolutely

the bruh line was better (still don't like it though) because it was at least in the ballpark of what was being said. The new one is just made up

direct translates are overrated. he was expressing annoyance and surprise, so anything in character that expresses that is fine. Give me anything other than a thousand "good grief"s and "haha"s

There's a balance to be made, but that balance is like 30% translation and 70% localization. There's a reason that the Woolsey Square games and the Working Design scripts are so memorable and beloved other than by the crazies. Any translation that is 100% literal is going to be embarrassingly terrible.

However, that doesn't means you should do things like add Doge memes into Zelda or remove entire conversations between 2 ninjas in Fire Emblem because "it's funny that their support convo is just '...' because they're NINJAS, see?"

Making dialogue longer isn't necessarily a good thing. Regular English fiction has plenty of short exclamations in between more meaningful lines.

every line should have a purpose. if you can replace one character with pretty much any other and have them say the same thing, the line isn't serving a purpose. the stock phrase they had was filler; the replacement should at least have personality. I don't think NISA should have changed the original translation at all but it's better than wasted text. besides, we're talking about a specific instance that did deserve more than a short exclamation

In the Japanese version of the game, Sirufa (whose Japanese name... would be better rendered as "Sylph") is a fairy who controls the wind. Before recruiting Rachel, talking to her causes the party to "ride the wind" to Coryan, while visiting her after getting Rachel sends the party to Magmal Isle. That's it.
In the US version, Sirufa's dialogue has been rewritten. Now, her wind powers are due to a bet she lost with an unexplained "Thaldar," as a result of which she "received the curse of eternal seimic flatulence." This is then used to create a mechanic whereby, if Sirufa's teleportation is used without having all party members equipped with "Filtration Masks," the unequipped members will be "overcome by the noxious fumes" and remove the rest of the party's masks before dying, causing an instant game over.

Working Designs was pretty unhinged in the Sega CD days, the PS1 Lunar releases were actually pretty chill by comparison(though they of course had their own wacky humor)

I thought maybe Zero took some Cold Steel saves for bonuses, but it does not

Zero just transfers to Azure

but then Azure will transfer to Reverie

Cold Steel 4 will also transfer to Reverie

I'm guessing the chance of me getting my hand on a limited edition at this point are zero right? Unless I pay the outrageous eBay prices?

Any chance that the save files from the fan version can be transported over to the official one
