They're calling AC Jade an "AAA mobile game." Sounds to me they're trying to go the Genshin Impact route with it. Comparable for the open world plus obvious catering to the Chinese mobile game market. If they do it right (not a given lol) I'd expect it to get ported to PC as well.

The most interesting one of these is the teaser for HEXE which I hope is just "Assassin's Creed but you're also a witch." Really weird to announce so far in advance with barely any info though, there's just nothing to get excited for really.

DS2 is a fantastic but flawed game. I think how I'd put it is that each Dark Souls game has its own strengths and weaknesses, and there's kind of a consensus DS2 has the most weaknesses. However it has unique strengths the other two don't. It is kind of a janky game because it had a rough development history and had to take some shortcuts (learn about this one weird elevator that enrages the souls fanbase) but when you consider that it's impressive what they pulled out.

As mentioned earlier, Elden Ring is DS2-2 in a lot of ways and I think that is just flatly correct and not even a hot take. The director of DS2 codirected ER. Essential game for understanding FromSoft's development as a studio.

I would try to find a way to play with the original enemy placements if you can but Scholar is still ok if that's the most accessible or cheapest option. The included DLC is worth and is probably the series's best.

It also kind of in my view presents a slightly revisionist take of the response to Collide and Act 7 that is more coloured by how people think of them now. At the time people lost their minds (in a good way) over Collide but Act 7 was deeply controversial. This presents something of the opposite which is from what I saw an opinion that emerged later.

Weirdly I do remember the kind of reaction she's talking about here (or am projecting my own lol) of a kind of muted response to Collide. As in, people LIKED it on a technical level, but it didn't have the same sense of climax or resolution as Cascade and was compared unfavorably. People looked towards Act 7 for those and then got wrapped up in all that. It didn't divide so neatly along the lines of liking Collide vs not though, for that reason. But also the Homestuck fanbase is massive and you can find all types of people. Honestly if there's revisionist history I tend to see about the endings it's their divisiveness getting downplayed in the face of the post-canon.

Agreed about the bit about the Kickstarter though, it gets too much focus for how little we really concretely know about it. It's ok as a video about the fandom reaction but I think the fan perspective is where a lot of its blind spots come from, especially with regards to the post-canon which she's not interested in diving into in detail. Which, it was literally too soon to do so and it would be hard to explain anyways, but there was a lot of context smoothed over.

Props for attempting to explain Vriska, though. I've seen some retrospectives that just omit talking about her entirely because she's too controversial and it's like...Vriska IS Homestuck, you can't fully understand how it works without the controversy. That's like trying to explain Game of Thrones without bringing up Cersei Lannister or some shit. Wild.

If there's one thing I can definitively state about the Epilogues, it's that their reputation has kind of spiraled out of control into this kind of cursed object to be spoken of in hushed tones. But really it's just a fucking book, it can't hurt you and you're better off just reading it yourself than listening to what anyone else has to say about it.

This has also happened to Homestuck itself! It's dumb there too!

The Epilogues are very good actually and while HS^2 is not, it was more of a victim of circumstance than anything else. Like its worst sin was that it was very slowly paced and could never get off the ground, all while the fanbase judged it so harshly that the creators gave up on it. It was a shitty situation!

Yeah I'm not expecting them soon but I still need multiple patches to save. So that's fine by me.

I think the best recap site is going to be the fan wiki pages for the summaries by act. But I do really have to plug the HMTW podcast again here because it is also great for that, or even if you just want to not read it at all but have it explained.

Not only does it have a high barrier to entry but that doesn't really go away. It just changes constantly. I don't think there's a single part of this damn thing that's straightforwardly easy to read.

Homestuck: it's good despite the flaws. Maybe even partly because of them?

I've been listening to a podcast called Homestuck Made This World. I'm not usually a podcast guy but I'd highly recommend it. It's two guys, both academics, one new and one who has never read it before, going through Homestuck piece by piece and taking it apart and putting it in historical and cultural context. It's a great nostalgia trip where you also learn about media history and philosophy. It's great! Their other shows are too and again, I'm not a big podcast guy.

Anyways it did inspire me to go back through the whole thing (yes, including the Epilogues) earlier this year. There's a lot of parts that haven't aged well, but as a whole I think it mostly holds up! Like a lot of people ITT are talking about how the pauses turned them off the comic, and it is remarkable how much Act 6 benefits when you aren't waiting for it update by update. It's good, actually.

I'm in Cyno waiting room. After that I enter no pull mode. Unless Kusanali is very broken I will probably wait for a rerun to try for her. I'd rather make sure I can save for Dehya and Baizhu. Though Baizhu is a meme who doesn't exist so if we get no news on him by Kusanali banner then maybe I can try.

Oh I've had that vendor unlocked for a few days without knowing about it. Oops. I thought you had to complete the whole thing but it's just when you open Vanarana up. There's also an area of the map by the Electro Regisvine with about 20 of them that I've been collecting every couple of days but that's still not a ton and other than that they're pretty spread out.

I've got C6 Collei so I've been leveling her over Dendro Traveler. Their last few constellations aren't even out yet and who knows when I'll actually get around to collecting all the oculi.

Also if you plan on making a Burgeon team, you will probably want Collei over Dendro Traveler because Pyro makes their burst explode and end. <_< Of course the Archon will come out in a few months too and probably solve that problem if you pull for her.

What are the best Dendro reactions anyways? I finally got to the Dendro artifact domain to hopefully get some good stuff for likely Yae, Kuki and Collei for now at least, but I dunno what Collei wants just yet for stats.

Most people are talking about Aggravate/Spread because Bloom teams seem a bit harder to figure out. Fischl has become a god and people like double electro because there's just more good electro characters right now.

Spread benefits from crits and damage boosting so from what I understand you go EM/Dendro%/Crit on DMC and Collei, unless of course you need more ER for their bursts.

Yes, typically smaller than for dine-in but still it's a habit I picked up during the pandemic and stuck with it. I mean technically there is still a pandemic going on but whatever.

I figure most takeout places in my area are still paying minimum wage or close enough to it, and I've got the money to afford eating out so why not. I don't strongly correlate tips with quality of service in the first place.

The Paste review, and hearing that it's shorter, I think are selling me on this game. I didn't finish SMTV - a great game that I loved - because the prospect of the endgame grind and doing the whole thing again for the true ending was too intimidating. 30-60 hours is a nice palatte cleanser and some SMT-ass SMT dungeons might be nice.

You should be able to just walk into Sumeru, and there will be a quick start for the event so you don't need to be totally caught up on the story, I think.

My day 1 plan is to pull for Tighnari and then go wherever his boss is and grind for some ascensions before I can get deeper into exploration over the weekend. Dendro traveler fills in until then and then I'll be using Fischl, Diona, and idk, Collei or Raiden or an exploration puzzle filler.

One of the best character designs in the game, kind of a shame she'll probably be the 4 star.

Yeah, PS5 has this problem too apparently. Mine just started drifting after a year and a half, and the warranty was only for a year. I'm having a rough time finding info about it because fewer people even have a PS5 in the first place. So far I've tried messing with the settings and cleaning them with a qtip and ethanol, but nothing is working. The only other thing I can find is literally taking the entire thing apart and cleaning the sensors, which looks like it has a good chance of damaging the controller if done wrong. One of my controllers only has slight drift but the other is basically unusable, so I might as well try it, but I wanted to see if anyone found anything better before I attempt the nuclear option.

These things are fucking expensive too and I don't want to buy another one not even knowing if the issue's been fixed.

Messages are so important to the experience for me personally. I don't know how I would have gotten through Elden Ring without them.

Fischl's perspective puzzles were fine for me but Mona's shapes were not. My brain has a much harder time trying to take a 2d shape, rotate it in my mind, and translate it into a 3d environment. I ended up kind of liking the gear puzzles though. Score one point for Fontaine I guess, first Fontaine event/quest that wasn't a huge pain in the ass. Also agreed on Xinyan, after Kazuha's domain I was expecting her to have a tragic backstory too but her optimism was a nice change of pace.

Hmm I realized I want Fischl for Dendro reactions and farmed the electro cube a couple weeks ago. Decided to spend the exp and mora on her now so I don't forget it later. Except...I got her to 60 and her skill to 6 before realizing I don't have nearly enough arrowheads for both her and Collei. I thought I had a ton but I guess Diona and Geo Traveler ate them all. Ooooooops

edit: fuck me, The Stringless uses them too. I hope Sumeru has lots of hillichurls!

Finished up The Chasm today, at least all the achievements, quests, story chapter, and and map%. Had it maybe halfway done before when I had to rush through most of it for that one event.

Wasn't really tedious and was nice to be able to go at my own pace. I think this is the coolest area in the game, it was a breath of fresh air to go back to. I'm more excited to see how Sumeru compares but also, I highly doubt it'll stack up as well lol.

Yeah the fast roll experience is keeping your starting rags on for a loooong time in these games.

Though IIRC in Dark Souls 1, the same stat that increases your equip load also raises your stamina meter. So you will get value out of buffing that.

Speaking of stats I haven't seen it mentioned but don't level up Resistance. It's a trap. (I don't think it's an intentional trap, but it's just very bad)

They seem pushed and have synergy with each other, obviously built for double dendro. Off-field support Dendros like Collei can wear the first set, and your on-field DPS can wear the second. Gilded Dreams might be decent for other reaction-based comps too.

I don't want to see this team remake any more of the games. It adds too many constraints and not in a good way. Samus Returns was fine but you could really feel it struggling against the classic design, and the best parts were when they could cut loose. Dread was ALL that, that's why it's a breath of fresh air. Just let them keep improving without going backwards.

Yeah I made leveling chars to 50 my project after building Itto because I was so sick of artifacts. Felt good but I was burning through mora and exp books a little too fast with Sumeru upcoming so I am ready to go back to the artifact domains.

Plus getting an Actually Good Itto build has shown me how bad my other characters are and I need to improve them anyways. My Emblem of Severed Fate rng is TRASH. My fucking resin for some damn Atk% sands and crit rate helms. I got like 5 crit dmg hats though...starting to see why people buy the battle pass weapons...

If you are being literal with "the villain" or "the antagonist" in that they have to be characters, then it's Sin. But really this question misses the central conflict of FFX which is against power structures and The Cycle.

Sin physically embodies the cycle so that's the closest. No, it doesn't have much of a personality and is more of a force of nature, but that's not an argument against it being a character. You could apply this to like, Godzilla, you wouldn't say Godzilla isn't a character.

Seymour is doing a similar thing by personifying the Church, Jecht is the source of so many of Tidus's issues, but Sin and the Cycle are bigger than them and ends up literally assimilating these other things.

Yeah it's a LOT. I've been plugging away at it over the first half of the patch and just wrapped up last night. 137 chests, I'm probably missing some luxurious chests and a couple hundred primos but I can't be bothered.

The event domains that give the currency aren't too bad. Each one has a short exploration stage with easier puzzles and some combat, then a stage that's just combat. You can run the first one once and the second twice and you're done.

There's like 6-8 sidequests after too but they're at least fairly reward-dense. It's just the story stages themselves that take forever. And there's some interesting bits in there but it's mostly pretty boring. Better than Perilous Trails at least, but even longer...

Sumeru waiting room zzzzz

Polished off most of the sidequests in Golden Island Archipelago yesterday. I only have the one for Mona's island and the hidden treasure hunt one to go. After those and the co-op event I'm gonna call it, I'm at 120 chests and these islands are not particularly fun to traverse.

I've still got plenty of other quests to clean up before Sumeru and don't want to get too burned out.

I'm actually more than okay with the shift towards action combat. Movement ans traversal in classic Metroid games (and Castlevania as well) has never been super appealing to me. The weighty movement has its place but I've become super spoiled by modern Metroidvanias like Ori or even Hollow Knight that are more explicitly taking cues from fluid 2d platformers. Trying to negotiate Metroid's weightiness in combat situations is more interesting than its traversal to me, and I think Castlevania already leans into that a bit so the move here makes total sense. Really looking forward to the new devs continuing to iterate on this style.
