| Seanchan 05/01/22 11:34:44 PM #423 | Guys, did you know that Malenia is the Blade of Miquella? I learn that every time she kills me. Which has been about 2 dozen times so far. I've gotten her to stage two...maybe 25-30% of the time. Had her down to 20% in stage two...maybe 1-2 times. I had one glorious run where I took down her first lifebar in about a minute but then got smushed by her stage 2 opener. I actually switched out to a katana with Bleed buildup. Not Rivers of Blood though as I don't have the Arcane for it. I'd imagine that most people are nominating albums they are very familiar with over a period of years. It's just a different perspective than someone like myself that's coming to most of these for the first time. I'm fully on board with people not paying attention to what's easy to rank. Nominate what you enjoy or what you want to highlight. Just be prepared that something totally avant garde may not get the reception you expect. Took the teleporter to the underground area. That place is just rich with runes! Killed the boss first try, though it was a close thing at one point. Up to level 153 or so. I must have gotten 6-7 levels just tonight, which is crazy for the advanced level I'm at already. But maybe that's not true anymore since I believe at one point you couldn't get it done at all with "football" shaped eyes. All I know is I've got astigmatism but don't wear glasses (usually) at the moment. After the events of Farum Azula I was wondering about a particular character from Roundtable Hold and I got my answer. I also used the Haligtree Medallion to start down that path. Did not get too far though. I'm around level 145 or so. I haven't really done much grinding either, just thoroughly explored because I find that fun. I've seemingly done just about everything that's possible to this point, without literally going down a checklist of every location. Even with Malenia, I made an effort to actually learn some of her patterns and felt like I had earned something the two times I've beaten her. Maliketh was mandatory three times for the platinum, and I hated his wild spasms so much that I cheesed him thrice. Haha, yeah, wild spasms is a good way to phrase it. With the first phase, I was eventually able to have a decent read on his attacks. But it basically amounted to staying as close as possible with shield up the entire time and get a hit or two during some small windows. Once I could get him down to 60% or so, back away behind a pillar, summon mimic, and heal back up. Then get back in his face, block, and chip him down to half health. I found it critical to get out the summon BEFORE the 2nd phase, because there's no time once that shit pops off. He attacks harder, does chip damage, and he's got attacks that proc scarlet rot or something similar. Very annoying. Not to mention he jumps around like a lunatic and can launch those fucking projectile slashes. Basically 2 hits to death, even with 1400+ HP. The summon was vital to be able to take the aggro and do some damage. Any time it died early meant I was fucked. The strategy for the 2nd phase was kind of the same as the first, it was just much harder to get, and stay, in his face. I think on my good run I was maybe a little more judicious with the blocking and not just slashing wildly when I actually got close. I wouldn't have minded nearly as much if I didn't have to take 20 seconds to run up the ramp every time. A Stakes of Marika would have helped. Then I finally got the magic run where he didn't spam those projectiles at me when he's jumping around like a crazy fucking lunatic. Mimic tear managed to stay alive long enough for me to take him down. Thank fuck that's over! After the first track, I was kind of enjoying its general chillness and kind of 80s-ish vibes. But I also found myself irrationally annoyed/angry at not being able to understand the lyrics. There was a certain...mumbling/ethereal/dreamy quality to them that I found hard to grasp onto. My mind was trying so hard to hear the words and usually falling short. My reaction was so clearly at odds with the vibe the album is going for. Eventually I calmed down and just went with it but definitely going to need some more listens to process. I've toyed with the idea of a nom for Hybrid Theory myself but, having not listened to it in a long time, I'm not sure it holds up to a non-teenager's sensibilities. I imagine Californication is still a great album, though I've no idea if it's the "best" RHCP album since, aside from this I'm only familiar with their radio hits. Marshall Mathers LP is one I loved as a teen but have had problems going back to. I find some of lyrics here to be offensive to the point of making me uncomfortable. Which is, in many ways, the difference between a teen's mindset of loving the "edgy" and "subversive" versus an adult's mindset of "I'd feel embarrassed having this blasting out of my car speakers". As I've probably said previously, I wasn't much into music as a kid. I didn't start paying attention to music until the late 90s with the local rock station. And the band that always had me stop to listen was Metallica. Hearing Master of Puppets (the song) for the first time was revelatory. Sanitarium, Ride the Lightning, Enter Sandman, Unforgiven, One, etc.; the amount of great songs they had which got radio play was staggering. I think Metallica is the first band that I really dove into to explore their full catalog, rather than just the radio hits. And so in many ways they feel like the first band that was "mine", rather than being the result of family musical tastes. Hell, I even enjoy some of their "hated" albums like Load and Reload, though I think some of their general vitriol has subsided over the years. I also want to shout out Garage Inc.'s disc one, which is one of my favorite "deeper cut" Metallica albums. Of course, the funny thing is that the next big album Metallica released was St. Anger, which is dog shit. I remember trying so hard to like it and knowing it wasn't good. Those fucking drums were atrocious! I've never really given Death Magnetic enough listens, though I've always liked what I heard. Explored a whole hell of a lot of paths around Farum Azula. That place is a warren of routes. Fuck birds! Fuck dragons! Got to the end boss and he was kind of kicking my ass. Figure I'll try again tomorrow. Did some research to see if I'd missed anything and it turns out there's an optional dragon boss (naturally!). Also some stuff about Alexander's quest line. Then looking up that quest line and it's talking about a location in Mt Gelmir I didn't know existed! Turns out I missed a path in Altus that winds around the outside. No matter how good I think I searched and explored, I've still missed so much stuff! Found a cave I'd missed along the way. I don't remember it being locked for me when I got there. Made more progress in Farum Azula. Beat the Godskin Duo. I keep getting my ass kicked by this one stupid Crucible Knight and I just cannot let it go. There are 2 actual bosses you need to fight. The first can be found by Daily progress: Finished that random cave I missed in Liurnia and met that NPC. Cleared out Castle Sol. Did the thing after the Fire Giant. In the middle of exploring Farum Azula. I will say AGAIN, I'm done with all the fucking dragons. Lost 80k runes at one point as I got killed by a trash mob running back for my runes. I was kinda pissed about that but at the same time, it hardly fucking matters at this point. Finished a Catacombs (or maybe it was something else, I can't remember). Did a Hero's Grave that didn't involve those fucking chariots! Killed the Fire Giant ( For tomorrow: Finish the random Cave I missed in Liurnia and meet an NPC I missed. Do Castle Sol. Go to the area after the Fire Giant. If it's grim, gloomy, icy, muddy, or anything like that, it's not good for the psyche. Like today it's mid-30s, overcast, with a dusting of snow. The smells and sights of that are more depressing than anything, even if there are birds chirping. As long as it's not too bad out (super windy, lots of precipitation) I still think it's a good idea to get outside, even if just for a few minutes. Sure the weather might not be ideal, but the walk helps get you exercise, gets you to think about different things (even if it's just how conditions suck), and I find the cold is usually less bothersome than I expect if I go at a decent pace. It just helps to get out of the box (i.e. house, room, office) and mindset I'm normally in all day. I think I remember grabbing one from a chest about 2 seconds before I died running around an area I was underleveled (or under-skilled...) for. To update my daily progress, I did exactly what I wanted. Finished the contracts, killed Rykart (super easy), Divine Tower of East Altus, and finished both those Catacombs. They really like to continue to fuck with you in the catacombs with the level design. Beat the Ringleader in his gaol in the area Ulti can't get to yet. Explored and killed a few more bosses on the Mountaintop, including yet another dragon. I am sick of the dragons. Got the 2nd map up there and stopped for the night. I've got a few spots I need to go back to explore, including Castle Sol. There's a 3rd and final map on the western side of the Mountain but I've no idea how you get to it. I imagine pushing forward will eventually send me in that direction. UltimaterializerX posted... Noob question - what do I have to equip to be able to cast heal spells? I have staves but the heal spells are still grayed out. I was using Radahn's gear for a long while but at some point recently I got something even better. I just don't remember, without looking, what it is.
