Definitely when I was 8 years old in 1991. I got backed over by a car in a church parking lot. It was at night, and I forgot who exactly I was playing with/talking to, all I know is one minute I'm talking to another kid, the next I'm feeling the tire run over my back and then my right arm as I am face down into the ground. Luckily said parking lot was dirt instead of pavement, or I would most likely have been killed.

Blacked out after hearing a whole bunch of people shout oh my god, etc. etc., next thing I know I'm in the backseat of a car/ambulance or something with my mom hugging me, blood damn near everywhere.

My parents understandably was furious, and my dad was about ready to kill the dude that backed me over when he found out. Surprisingly, my legs were fine so I was able to start walking after not too much trouble, but my right arm had to be in a cast/sling for a long time, I think a month or something like that.

I guess if I had to point out a single good thing about this situation, its that with the money we got for this incident, my dad bought me that super nintendo bundle that came with two controllers and mario world on the very first day of the north american release (alongside final fight and street fighter 2)....I had to kind do some crazy shit to play it with my broken right arm, but I made it work somehow, lol. (I would also say that I missed like a month of school, but I had to make this time up via teacher visits in the afternoon for like a straight month when I eventually went back to school). Still though, all these years later and I still remember the pain from this accident.

I am pretty sure the art style was one of the major things that made the game stand out among other shooters back when it first released. Damn near all my friends and my older brother didn't even know wtf borderlands was or cared when it was releasing, until I told them all that it was a cel-shaded first person shooter that was sort of like diablo, when I decided to blind buy it because of said cel-shaded art style.

There was so god damn many brown and grey gritty releastic shooters during that time period. Still is, actually, =/

People that are hungry as hell, lol. I remember my state (south carolina) got hit by hurricane matthew this past october, and the power was out for everyone in certain counties for almost two weeks. (well, depended on the neighborhoods. The rich ones had their shit up and running extremely fast, lol). Mcdonalds, burger king, hardees etc. was making a killing since they were the first businesses to get power back. The traffic was insane (because of both the lines of getting into the parking lots and drive-thrus and the traffic lights being out), lines backed up for blocks...just for some lousy-ass whoppers and dry-ass fries burger king. (granted, said lousy whopper and dry-fries tastes like the food of kings after living off of ramen noodles, bottled water, and charcoal grilled hot-dogs for about a week).

All we had was just a power outage and fallen trees everywhere, so compared to texas it'd imagine these places is going to make out like bandits because of this flooding thing.

Yeah. The gamestop I regularly go to had 25, and they sold out in about an hour. I am good friends with all the employees there and was just talking about it, etc. I think its kind of funny (and annoying) that the store manager was saying for as long as he worked there (he was pretty much at this spot since around 2004), like the vast majority of the people that was getting these pre-orders was people he or any of the other employees that has been working at this gamestop for a long time now has never seen before in the store, most of them random soccer moms/ladies, and old ladies.

Pretty much just random smucks that don't even game like that probably just heard about the "nes/snes classic and switch" hype from forbes, new york times, or wherever else and just getting in on the new hot item and is just going to sell them for profit....or just get it so their teenage kids or grandkids can play on it for like 15 minutes before they get bored and never touch it again. The manager said in his opinion it sucks and he preferred to only sell to people who is actually passionate about games, but its his job to sell no matter who asks so it is what it is.

....and yes, it is true that the employees can pre-order one for their-selves, but they are under a 1 per-person limit. One of the first things I asked is if they got a pre-order their-selves yet, lol.

This right here, it always confuses me when someone chooses a female character when they themselves are a man. Always thought it was fucking weird.

Honestly, I would create dudes way more if the majority of character creators were not straight up ass for black dudes, mainly the hair styles. (Mainly in bethesda or bioware made games). The last game I played where I was completely satisfied with hair options that didn't look goofy on a darker skin character was phantasy star universe (hell I was even satisfied with phantasy star online episode 1 and 2's back in the day).....which is sad, since this was all the way back in 2006 and it is a game made by a japanese company. I'm not even a hard to please dude....give me a decent fro, dreads, or cornrows, and I am good to go, but nah, you rarely or ever get these options it feels like. Shouldn't even be hard to do imo.

Its like, you would expect a western company like bethesda or bioware to nail it with options for all races compared to a country like japan and a company like sega, but I don't know, lol.

I think like, two months after phantasy star universe released on the 360 in 2006 I think it was. I only had my 360 for two months at the time. (I bought it pretty much just for phantasy star universe, and was going to get gears of war next, and then go from there).

Took like , 12 days for it to go to and back from whatever it came from. My 360 rrod'd again like, a month later, lol.

If there is one single thing I was actually glad for about the 360 is that you could safely remove the hdd and just slap it on another 360, so you were good to go when it can to the saves. When my original 60 gb model PS3 ylod'd in 2011, I was boned, =(

It was aight' for its time, but a good bit of beat'em ups made later on is better. Final fight 3 on the snes, alien vs predator in the arcades, dungeons and dragons, etc. (I love the beat'em ups where you get to do command moves in general).

Getting that at&t dsl for phantasy star online episode 1 and 2 on the gamecube back in 2002 was by far the most amazing feeling in the world, because screw 56k and people calling to talk to my mom or older brother 24/7 knocking me off muh nets. (Playing online on the original xbox felt so much better than the ps2 and dreamcast since the xbox had the controversial decision to lock out 56k connections at the time. It was still possible to unofficially use 56k on the original box, but you had to go out of your way to do it.....and it was definitely not recommended).

Didn't actually get a wireless router until like what, 2011 or something like that, so yeah, that dongle for the DS came in handy since I used it to play mario kart DS and diddy kong racing DS online.

No clue. Probably a lot though, since I still own all the consoles and games my family had from the NES gen. on up, and a good deal of these games is rare games, complete with manuals/the actual game cases and whatnot.

*few examples off the top of my head, I got ducktales 2 nes complete, final fantasy 3 (6), chrono trigger, phantasy star 4, lunar silver star story and lunar eternal blue (the sega cd and the playstation 1 versions), dragon force on the sega saturn, panzer dragoon, original release of final fantasy 7, the original release for zelda ocarina of time (its the grey cartridge version with all the glitches you can do in it, version 1.0 I think its called), fire emblem path of radiance and radiant dawn, tales of destiny 1 and tales of destiny 2 (eternia), etc.*

I doubt I will ever sell this stuff.

They are 100 percent, bona-fied black, no questions asked, lol. (Not even getting into the fact that like yorouchi, the vast majority of these dudes is also japanese samurai ghosts, and the one dude with a orange fro' is from ghost mexico or whatever, and also happens to have a lighter skin toned compared to yorouchi, but nah, he is totally black, do not question it). The messed up implications with all this is that in certain people's eyes, a character has to have ugly facial features and be extremely dark to be considered black when it comes to video games and anime/manga, if they do not have these exaggerated features and they happen to be cute or hot, then here comes to mental gymnastics about how they can not possibly be black, lol.

I never was too fond of most MMOs myself. The main one I enjoyed was city of heroes/city of villains, because the different powers and whatnot you could pick was fun as hell. I used to like playing a rogue in world of warcraft back in the day (like, back when you actually had to plan when to use crowd control abilities like sheeping and sapping. Going around in stealth and sapping key mobs or doing other general rogue stuff was so much fun back then), but blizzard eventually making this kind of stuff pointless/them "streamlining" the combat/the constant rogue nerf and buff rollercoaster (all because blizzard does not have a system for seperate PvE and PvP buffs and nerfs, =/) eventually killed all enjoyment I used to have for WoW. They brought actual planning/thinking back for cataclyscm heroic dungeons, but they quickly went back the the streamlined brain-dead style of gameplay mad quick.

At the end of the day, I greatly prefer online action rpgs over MMOs in general. (in which I mean games like diablo, monster hunter, champions of norrath, and my favorite video game of all time phantasy star online episode 1 and 2. Good lord do I miss the phantasy star online series).

Sony and capcom had a little falling out when it comes to monster hunter around when monster hunter portable 3rd was a thing. A bunch of minor things like sony being kind of dicks about upgrading their psp online play app (sony got kind of slack with updating this app for the west/gave up on it like they usually do with a lot of their things. *coughvitacough*) and wanting capcom to pay out of their pocket to update it, sony wanting capcom to add trophies for portable 3rd when capcom was pretty much "whatever" when it came to that (this was around the time when sony's western branch made all new games having trophies mandatory).

Also, there was rumors of sony wanting capcom to put in more money towards increasing the graphics for the PS3 port...capcom was having money issues at the time, and the PS3 port of portable 3rd wasn't intended to be this massive game with a budget...just a quick port to try to help out with costs since PS3 development was hurting a lot of mid-level devs like capcom at the time...the PS3 was expensive to develop for. (To be honest, I actually believe this. There is actually a few 2D fighters/rpgs/various games that never got localized on the PS2 or PSP because sony's western branch used to enforce all these petty rules on devs, like a 2D game needing "a good deal of enhancements" To be localized in NA when it came to the PS2 and PSP.....this was the reason north america missed out on the tales of eternia and breath of fire 3 psp ports back then. Working designs was a victim of this with their localization for the geomon game that was on PS2).

Small things like this eventually added up. Nintendo comes along and is all like "hey, we will totally foot the bill if you create monster hunter 3 on our system". The Wii really took off, so capcom accepted and the rest is history.

Basically, it was kind of sony's fault the series made the jump back then.

Back in like, 91' or so, my house' nintendo got hit by lightning. The system still worked fine, but the controller in port 2 got fried.

Around 2004, my older brother's xbox got hit by lightning. It did not survive.

Both times our house got hit, it was one of those overnight lightning storms where you just kinda' sleep through it.

I have none whatsoever, thankfully. Actually, my dad is pretty chill as hell. He is a huge gamer like me and my brothers/sisters, so the main reason I was able to play so many nes, snes, and genesis games back in the day was because of him. Mom is also pretty chill/just kinda does her own thing. They have been married for more than 40 years, and when I was coming up they rarely if ever fought in front of us kids.

My older brother and sister and law do the same to me, lol. I usually make dudes in games with character creation, but if the game that I am playing has awkward as fuck customization for black characters (mostly things like the hair styles), which is almost all wrpgs by bethesda and bioware, or very few japanese games where my black dude comes out looking like some sorta' prince or michael jackson hybrid like with bloodborne, then I rather play make a female instead.

Because of this, I played a female in games like fallout 4, mass effect whatever, knights of the old republic back in the day, dragon age (seriously though, bioware's customization options for the kind of dude I want to make is damn near always god awful), and bloodborne. The fam., almost always catch me playing games like this, but not the ones where I actually do make a dude, like with saint's row 3 or other games that actually got good customization for everybody. It gets awkward, lol.

*Real talk though, more fros, cornrows, and/or dreads for character customization in wrpgs please*

I was born in bridgeport connecticut, but we moved down to south carolina when I was like 5, so I grew up in south carolina.

I grew up in probably one of the most boring regions of the united states, lmao. *And yes, while columbia and myrtle beach south carolina is cool, I did not live at those places, and usually only visited those spots on special occasions coming up =(* I grew up in some no-name boring county where there is a lot of fields, probably like, old slave houses, farms, and dudes riding horses.

For me in the NES generation, it was battle toads on the nes (battlemaniacs and battle toads and double dragons was a good deal easier compared to the nes original, imo). Mind you, I was a youngin' when I first got it and beat it, but no other video game that I have ever played required as much game overs, gittin' gud, patience, and tranquil fury from me compared to it. Even stuff like dark souls and bloodborne is a walk in the park compared to some of the pixel perfect stuff you had to pull in that game.

The speed bike level is usually the one that crushes and spits out your average gamer, the slightly better ones usually get stomped at the snake pit, the really good gamers tend to fall at that either the one level where you have to swim through a bunch of pipes, dodging spikes and whatever else or rat race, etc., lol. The original ninja gaiden is a strong runner-up. You got to be on point to be dodging those damn eagles/bats towards the final stages.

For the super nintendo generation, I had the most trouble with certain jrpgs. I remember breath of fire 2 on the snes busting my ass. (I beat the gba re-release mad easy though, so I'm not sure if capcom toned some stuff down with those ports or not). I don't recall struggling at much stuff in the playstation/64 era.

For the PS2, the NA version of devil may cry 3 could get pretty rough since they bumped the difficulty up from the japanese release. I remember cerebrus fucking people up something serious back then even on normal, and agne and rudra finished off mad gamers, lol. Like someone else said, ninja gaiden on the xbox was serious business.

It blew my mind as a kid, lol. Although the instruction manual clearly states he is a dinosaur (that, and the game taking place on dinosaur island, you would think people would put two and two together, lol), I also had some family members that used to call him a horse.....a green horse, =/

But yeah, I can definitely vouch for how popular yoshi was back then.

We know, it's just that many of us didn't have a SNES growing up, we had a Sega Genesis. Looking back at 1994, it seemed like almost half the kids in my school had a SNES and almost the other half had a Genesis. It was almost 50 / 50.
Both systems were very popular at the time and most kids only had one system (either the SNES or Sega Genesis) since their parents didn't have enough money to buy them both.

I say almost 50 / 50 since there was ONE girl I knew who had a Turbografx-16 with the CD (I use to talk to her all the time about YS 1 and 2 for the Turbo CD. I never had a Turbografx-16 or the Turbo CD growing up, but I had the Sega Master System and had YS 1 on it and had YS 3 on Sega Genesis, so I knew a good amount about YS). But she was literally ONE person out of close to a thousand kids who didn't have either a SNES or Sega Genesis but had one of the other systems out at the time.

Strangely enough, there was ONE kid who CLAIMED he had a Neo Geo, but none of us believed him since the Neo Geo games were $200 each (which is insane since games for all other systems cost about $50 on average back then). He could NEVER supply proof of any type either.

I didn't know anyone at my school who owned an Atari Jaguar.... NO one at my school owned an Atari Jaguar (I knew ONE guy who owned an Atari Jaguar but he was an adult who was in his late 20's / early 30's who lived in my apartment building... definitely NOT a kid). I knew NO one who owned a 3DO or the CD-i.

When I look back at it all, I was extremely lucky to be born into a family that really freaking loved video games. (2 brothers, 3 sisters, and my dad....we all played video games passionately...still do actually. My mom was the only one that sucked at them, lol). Because of this, we pretty much owned every relevant console at the time. (the nes, genesis, and sega cd was my older bro's, the super nintendo, playstation 1, nintendo 64, and gameboy was mine).

But yeah, I barely knew anyone that had a jaguar, and turbo graphix 16 back in the day. The only single person I knew that had a neo geo was a cousin of mine on my dad's side on the family, and they were pretty comfortably upper middle class. Majority of the fam. and friends had a genesis since it was cheaper overall compared to the snes.

I don't think there will ever be another massive graphics leap like there was with the super nes/genesis to playstation/saturn/64 era, and again going into the dreamcast/ps2/gamecube/xbox era. Seems to me the best way to stand out and make a brand new game a success nowadays is if they get a little innovative with their game ideas (like the setting, main characters, the plot, etc.) instead of just depending on raw graphics alone.

I always think that something like the borderlands series is a perfect example. Had they stuck with that generic brown and grey "looks like every other gritty first person shooter nowadays with a super serious story" realistic look it first had, I wonder if the series would have been a success like it is now.
