I love MGSV but agree with everything the OP said. There's an endless list of outrageously huge problems with the game, I can't believe I still like it. There are so many dumb things to list it would take forever to write them all down.

The absolute dumbest stuff I think is:

* how the main plot ends...but then oh wait, here is a short second chapter that actually has really good cutscenes in it but doesn't go anywhere and is clearly unfinished

* totally unclear how to keep unlocking missions during second chapter

* all the base management is like a totally separate game, and also barely a game

* the game encourages you to be as stealthy as possible, and yet your reward for that is always loud explosive stuff that you are discouraged from using

* playing the prologue twice, yup, wtf

omg I super get that feeling too, I get ridiculously tense/anxious until they hang up. I'm glad Jeff started getting really good about saying "thanks for your question" as soon as possible in the last few call in shows I've seen 'em do

naa these are way better than the actual sonic CD special stages. sonic CD special stages was just jump around in random directions and hit all the UFOs. these special stages are pretty strategic, for deciding when to take shortcuts and try to catch up, versus when to grab rings and when to grab blue orbs (and often you have to choose between rings and orbs). I really like 'em!

but yeah sonic 3 sphere grid is so boring, mostly a matter of controls mastery

I liked the game so much, I just played through again, now with Knuckles. Lots of different stuff in the Knuckles version! 1 act in particular was radically different.

I finished! Game was awesome, easily the best sonic game, and just a great game. They did so much right. Huge nonlinear, replayable levels, but you always know you're going rightward. And one of the first video games I've played where I liked the bosses as much as the levels. Crazy good music too.

And it furthers my belief that the quality of a sonic game has a very close negative correlation with how many bottomless pits are in the game. This has the fewest bottomless pits of any Sonic game I can think of, even fewer than Sonic CD perhaps. I don't think I even died once to a bottomless pit. (This Law of Sonic Game Quality even explains why the 3d games are so bad, they have a whole third dimension to fill with bottomless pit).

Maybe I'll make a Mystery Heroes Deatmatch custom game instead.

Doomfist is OP in deathmatch yup...I hate playing him, but even I gave him a try and I rocked without any effort

...but someone's always going to be the best in such a mode, so at least he's weak to long range characters so you can pick that if he's being really annoying.

Oh by the way, free for all Deathmatch is insaaaaanely fun. I've played about 10 times and got awesome highlights each time. Team deathmatch very fun too, and more classes are viable there...but in FFA you can truly relax or experiment or tryhard, whatever, don't have to worry about hurting your team or your team hurting you. I think I might give up quick play and play deathmatch forever.

Yeah there are probably some guns fairly similiar to the zapper, and, if this game is anything like the first game, they'll add a ton of new weapons over the next few months, many of them being existing weapons but different subweapons.

I mean, personally I always thought it should be entirely determined by what team won more games. I think everyone should pick their honest favorite answer, and that's how teams are chosen, and then everyone plays hard. None of this "well I wanna be on the more popular team" weirdness.

But the "win 2 of 3 categories" way seems ok too, the popularity contest is pretty fun to include, I admit.

Giant bomb's hate for board games always sends me into a rage too, do some research Jeff!! There are modern board games that aren't 3 hours/overcomplex/solitarish! And even some of the 3 hour overcomplex solitarish ones are good, just an acquired taste... But no "durr if you can't drink while you play what's even the point hurr"

Abby was getting put on the spot a lot, at first, to be funny, and that's a surefire way to not be funny (but you kinda do have to do it to a new person, and get it over with, to get them fully integrated). She's rad now.

It's not typical crafting though, because you're not really following recipes; you're figuring out rules, making discoveries, thinking about uses of ingredients and substitutions, thinking about how intense of a dish you want to make, getting lucky sometimes, and only occasionally trying to make a particular named dish by recipe.

For 1999, you could watch the movie "Dracula 2000". IIRC it's pretty bad, so you could pretend that Dracula watched that movie in 1999 and was so embarrassed that he gave up dracula ing.

Awesome!! I've always wanted to do this...

I think the atmosphere and music of Lament are great, story's better than you might expect, the combat/level design is...not very interesting. Pretty short game though so NBD.

Curse of Darkness is definitely better. My #1 favorite soundtrack of any video game!!
