Microtransactions are normally for shit like skins and other things that don't unbalance the game. Overwatch is a good example of this, even though they do events for rare skins/taunts that encourage you to purchase loot boxes.

Yup. Publishers have proven that they can make money off of minimal investment, so they see no reason to change. This isn't like online passes, which were so objectively terrible that they were quietly phased out in a couple of years because the money made didn't outweigh the public outcry. Microtransactions are normalized in AAA games now, and they aren't going away anytime soon. 2K, EA, WB, and Activision are the worst offenders for that.

The ones that have microtransactions are ones that primarily have multiplayer components: CoD (fuck the MW Remaster for this), Overwatch, GTAO, and now Shadow of War, among others. I'm amazed that Dragon Age Inquisition didn't have them, as the war table's mechanics are basically a prime example of how microtransactions work. As for predominately single player games, the only one I can think of is Dead Space 3, which is published by - and cue your surprise here - EA.

Like with any reviewer, you'll find ones that resonate with you and ones that don't. I don't read Sterling reviews because they are so long winded, and his reviews have never jived with me. Basically, find a few reviewers that like to play the same games as you do and read their stuff if you want.

Jim Sterling pulled his review because he gave it a one out of ten in a pique of frustration because he ran into a game breaking glitch. Basically, the game auto-saves behind you as you go. He missed lighting a torch that allowed him to progress further, and the game autosaved behind him, basically prohibiting him from progressing further. It was disappointing because he was actually really liking the game, and would have given it at seven or eight out of 10, but he couldn't give it that good of a score when he ran into a game breaking problem. Still, the rest of the game sounds pretty good.

I don't get how the new Death Wish movie is racist. If you even watch the trailer, Bruce Willis only shoots one black guy versus all the other white people he shoots or interacts with. There are more innocent black people then there are black criminals in the trailer. Of course, a trailer's demographics can be skewed one way or the other, so you'd have to wait until the movie is out before coming to a definite conclusion.

My take:
1. don't go writing manifestos that more or less accuse your coworkers of being unqualified token hires, and especially don't circulate it among colleagues.
2. In general, employees should have unions and collectively-bargained contracts that protect them from being fired on the whims of higher-ups and over dust-ups like this. If you want workers to feel free to express their viewpoints, worker power is the only way to accomplish that. Would that have saved this guy's job? Impossible to say.

This sounds like water cooler gossip where people guess at who slept their way to their positions.

The main multiplayer component seems to work similar to the FOB system in Metal Gear Solid V. Dubbed Social Conquest, you can set up a base in your own game that other players can then attempt to siege with their armies. Pretty harmless stuff, even if it got to be really annoying in MGSV. You can play it directly with friends or just randoms.

So what actually are these multiplayer features? According to Eurogamer, you'll essentially be able to invade the fortresses of other players and attempt to conquer them. This 'social conquest' mode has two settings: friendly and ranked. Friendly allows you to invade without risking the army you've built up, while ranked will see your orcish followers die permanently if they're killed in battle.

It's that latter detail that has some people worried. If you're going to go looking for some of the high-end loot that you get from conquering another player's fortress and your best warriors are cut down during the assault, isn't that potentially pushing you to spend some real money on rebuilding your forces? Bringing multiplayer into the equation has certainly complicated the conversation.

Meh. I don't waste crafting skills on my 2 main characters. Bairdotr joins with 2 loremaster, and it's easy enough to find gear that gives increases to loremaster anyways. Likewise, Jahan joins with the Scientist perk, which makes him a logical choice to become my crafting station. Those two are also pretty solid in battle, so they're rarely out of my party.

I've been picking up almost everything I can find, and using Jahan to craft items. He made me some really good staves at level 9 that are much better than anything I've found so far, and significantly upgraded Beridotr's armour in the process. Crafting is essential to making phat l3wt.

I don't even remember when you meet him. I think you end up meeting all of the other Thors Academy board members before him. Doesn't help that TC keeps referring to characters by names only he - and a select few - understand the reference of.

One of the things I like about the game is how the map loads everything except caverns, so there's no loading times except to go upstairs in the inn, down into basements, or into caverns. This means that houses and dungeons make sense in their respective contexts. When I went to the lighthouse, I was expecting some grandiose and macabre obelisk, given how much emphasis it had placed on it. Instead, I was treated to a simple lighthouse with a simple basement. I'm about to enter the church, which looks like the last spot in the first map, so we'll see how much of a dungeon it looks like.

There are some references to a couple of characters from TitS, some vague references to the events of the games, and a recurring character that shows up in Cold Steel. If you haven't played TitS, the references will be a bit lost on you, but it won't diminish your enjoyment one bit. Hell, Tita from TitS is going to be in CS3, with the rumour being that another character from the series will show up in CS3.

It's not real money currency, per se - you just pay them money for a one-time boost of your characters. First game I recall them throwing micro-transactions in was Tales of Graces f. It basically boosted your character levels and gave you a bunch of crafting items, or whatever it was. It's been a staple in every Tales game since. Go check out Tales games on the PSN store and look at the DLC offerings.

Crafting is incredibly effective because it's supplementary in nature. You can make pretty much everything via the system, or you can just buy everything from merchants if you have the gold. I have one character devoted to making shit (Jahan, because he's kind of a tool anyways).

They have durability, which means you have to get them mended, either by yourself or by a merchant.

It's incredibly involved, somewhat convoluted, but it makes sense in a way. I'm glad that you don't have to keep finding or making the utensils that you use to make these items. This is just one crafting tree.

Bone Powder + Stardust Powder: Pixie Dust
Needle + Thread: Needle & Thread
Needle & Thread + Pixie Dust: Magic Needle & Thread
Animal Hide + Knife: Leather Scraps
Leather Scraps + Magic Needle & Thread: Leather Armour
Leather Armour + Metal Scraps: Boosted Leather Armour

Magic scrolls and skillbooks are more involved than that. You can also roll bonuses on your items and armour based on your crafting skills.
