The TFR in America is actually somewhere between 1 and 2. In order for a population to grow rather than decline it needs to be at least 2. Assuming scarlet lives in the united states he would not contribute to overpopulation by having children. He would actually be moving the population of his country toward a more stable replacement number.

Actually that's a great point that I hadn't even considered. Thanks.

It's also wrong.

Just think about it for 1 second - how have we been growing by the billions (even in rich places), even though TFR has steadily been going down?

First, if we are already overpopulated, then obviously any TFR over 0 is contributing to over population.

Then there's the fact that global population is based on birth rate TIMES a factor of life expectancy. Because if you live longer, more kids are born in your lifetime. There's a gorging trend in for life expectancy globally and especially in the low TFR countries. So even if we're not yet overpopulated, a positive TFR combined with a positive life expectancy growth can lead to overpopulation.

Lastly there's ancillary things like immigration that can normalize the population across varying TFR countries.

I realize y'all don't actually want to think for 1 second about this, just pretend you're right, but maybe a lurker will read it.

I predict things to go wrong for the Sox and it's gonna get ugly in terms of sports talk and the fanbase and media. We have all these young likeable guys, we shed the young unlikeable guy (Moncada), some old hands, great pitchers... but it won't take much.

Here's a maybe "too soon" question

How much of it was the Undertaker gimmick vs how much of it was Mark Calloway's talent and work ethic?

He had plenty of talent and work ethic, but so do a lot of wrestlers that don't really go far. Gimmick is huge, being able to carry the gimmick is also a big deal. He came from an era where everyone had an occupational gimmick. Most people ran around looking all coked up about their occupation. I guess an easy way to think about the question is Kane. No one can carry a dentist gimmick, even a guy who is huge, has a good personality, steady hand, agility and good ethic/talent.

I guess I would say it was the right guy and the right gimmick.

I didn't watch. Any match I had interest in on paper had very predictable results. And I'm too casual in investment to brush it off as "well that was expected, but let's see where we go from here". I'll probably watch Taker's last moment on youtube. Awesome wrestler awesome career. I'll echo Rock's post. This Roman/Taker storyline wasn't compelling to me because it seemed to mostly be "we really, REALLY, need to get Taker out of here".

there's a good reason why people maintain vanilla WOW servers and why shutting them down is a big deal

The first year or two of PVP in WoW was fun and I'd say fairly unique. If you were on a PVP server, anything beyond the first 20 levels (or so) was fair game. So you might bump into a hostile faction and decide to fight it out, leave each other alone, whatever. You might get ganked all afternoon. You might just go to one of the hotspots that everyone went to just to constantly fight, back and forth as reinforcements came and went. Of if your guild wanted to stir up some drama, just get everyone together and take over a small opposing faction town until they could chase you out.

At times is was a blast, at times it was frustrating, at times it could be somewhat peaceful. I felt like the PvP server was always good for *something*. We all changed each other's gaming experience.

Vanilla was a good cross between old school slog and new school casual streamlining. I'm can see why people don't want that to die, those are great memories and good history. At the same time I don't know why anyone would want to keep playing that endgame content.

Vanilla WoW was awesome. It advertised itself as a game that you could accomplish stuff in 20 minutes, and it was true. I remember a lot of people my age or slightly older that got into it and had kids or wives and would have to go after a short while. And then that amount of time got longer, and longer, and longer...

Also there were tons of people who threw away high school years and college semesters and wasted their summers.

like I said it was awesome

BOTW has them both absolutely murdered as far as the main game goes though.

The last dungeon is awesome and intense.

There is a mechanic in the game that should not have been used for the last boss, I'll leave it at that.

I like the idea of wrestlers being themselves and we can pick and choose who we like in a feud. That is the model Cena puts out well. He's a good guy for the business, he can wrestle or sandbag it as needed, kids love him, he stays true to himself, etc. He's also a poser and annoying and tacky and the real corporate champion type of guy in this era.

If Roman was just Roman, and a badass quiet intensity kinda guy, I think it'd be pretty entertaining at times. but, well, he's not booked that way but you all know that etc

I still don't understand why he was able to take over and manipulate sheikah tech, as it was never given any kinda explanation. Oh, and the fight was piss easy, unfortunately. Dark beast fight was just ok but he looked cool at least. Amazing game overall. 10/10 for me. Probably one of my top 3 games of all time now.

^ I've considered it. Idk if I wanna do it immediately though.

The Hyrule Castle memory informs us that they were able to control the beasts/guardians, so all Ganon had to do was overpower those who were controlling them.

I really enjoyed FF9. I didn't necessarily enjoy the end boss nonsense but still. Enjoyed it.

Diablo 2 really took over my free time.

Shake had a good writeup for EQ a long time ago, probably summer/fall 2005. There wasn't anything put together quite like EQ (I can add some caveats here but let's keep going) and a lot of EQ was based on people forming social bonds with each other. Town tends to have bigger issues from players that aren't productive. When scum have people that aren't doing much, they blend in with the town that are in the same boat. You're then stuck trying to piece together the game based on activity/voting records/tells/gut. There is a bit of touch and feel for scum on this one - blending into the game as it develops.

Town has the detriment of trying to drive activity and information. They are invested in the outcome and their own processes. Coming in impartial and without investment to say "obvscum!" is unfair, because if you were town in the game perhaps scum would have shifted tactics. And that, I hope, will help towns think about the momentum of the game in the future...

that all said...

I feel like corrik townslipped and his behavior this game wasn't really something you'd expect from him as scum. Or town. But there was one post that, to me, seemed like something I can't see him making as scum. I'll go dig it up if I get free time. In general he seemed to have a constant and genuine frustration and apathy (if that's possible, maybe I need a better word) with the game. He was the one guy I centered on as I followed the topics as being town. That's not "wow neon is so smart", that's just giving you guys my point of view. I thought red did OK and at the end you have to make a decision and vote it and deal with the results. I think unveiling the eaed scan earlier would have helped more tbh. There were like 5 people doing nothing and 3 were scum, and it wasn't until the end that 1 of them was removed from suspicion. I don't think it was red stroking his ego so much as red not adjusting to the people in the game.

hate to call out turbopuns but like, if you asked the game for their scum teams he would probably be unanimous no?

Someone like neon will probably tell me that this belongs a lot higher (or maybe he thinks it's just a byproduct of the great Ultima IV?)

Telengard is the most important game of all time!!!

PC RPGs are just fun to follow because there is a lot of direct "I played this 3/10 rat hole in 1983 and one of the gameplay elements was so good that I made the Diablo series based on it" stories. A lot of gameplay elements being passed around, emphasized, standardized, etc. Then you have some very good games that went on to inspire Dragon Quest (Ultima).

By the time Baldur's Gate comes out, I don't know what the influences are. Does Dragon Age need Baldur's Gate? I guess at that point I don't know. and maybe it's right there in the Wikipedia but I stopped following a lot of lines of influence around the time the DS/WoW came out, because it felt like game development was a different animal at that point. I have no idea what game started F2P or P2W types of games but getting PC games into that realm was very important.

the throughline is clearly Goldeneye to Halo. Goldeneye showed that there is a market that wants those kinds of games and Halo figured out how to make it work. more on that later.

I'd say that's actually the least clear line, because we know all that went into those two games developments.

There's an insanely popular genre on PCs. On platform struggles to handle the graphics for it because of how it computes floating point operations. The other platform is owned by friggin Nintendo. So, you weren't going to get much (though what we did get was good.)

Microsoft buys Bungie and they weren't pointing to Goldeneye. Especially once the dev kit came in (and whoops there, but it worked out).

uhhh I guess bees because I think I have enough loopholes and spray poison to deal with them. If they are intent on killing me, I could hide under blankets and then make a little airhole for them to come in single file and smoosh them. Also 500 stings (max) isn't enough to kill me, I don't think.

I have some guns but I really wouldn't want to chance it against something like a lion. I guess I envision that we're in a lion cage. If the thing moves around much, I wouldn't be confident that I could make a kill shot. I do have a chainsaw and a jaw saw. I think I'd take those over the gun. If the lion gets on me, I have a decent chance of doing fatal damage first if I prepare for that outcome.

if the bees are honeybees, totally going with them. if we're talking angry bumblebees, maybe I duno
