Man I got so excited when I got this, immediately wondering what new areas would now be open. Then I realized lol, you could already go anywhere.

Still cool tho.

Over a week ago I had some friends over and was trying to show them the game. I was like "You can just go to face ganon whenever, I've only done two dungeons but watch" and then accidentally beat the game using a ridiculous amount of potions and while apparently not figuring out any of the "tricks" to defeat enemies and just exploiting Gerudo power. My friend had googled it when I was stuck for about 10 minutes of dodging, and afterwards was like "yeah you're an idiot".

I've played a good 20-30 hours since and keep telling myself "I'm going to go do a dungeon tonight" and then get sidetracked and climbing some mountain I've never climbed before and just looking for random little quests or bedazzling my pants.

This game is destroying my life, I need it to stop being fun and just be done.

Side note: I definitely prefer to invest in stamina over hearts. At first I wanted to unlock new areas, now it's just convenience. I'm at about 3 wheels worth, makes it so much easier to deal with cliffs.

I've got a bunch of faeries, and tons of food that gives me ma heal and 10 temporary hearts, who really need to upgrade hearts past 10...

ALSO, best accidental early game find was climbing hat, I basically didn't take it off for more than a few minutes at a time for the first 40 hours of game play

Yeah I didn't get the Rito power until I had like 2.4 stamina wheels and while useful it didn't seem as life changing as everyone was making it out to be. That probably would have been different if I had been under two wheels!

I did Rito second my first time through, but that was still like 40 hours into the game when I did it, and yeah, I didn't use it all that much.

But this time through I went there first and got it about 10 hours in, and I've been abusing the hell out of it. It's great.

Gerudo power is a really cheap way to win anything. I almost regret getting it first because instead of giving me more DIFFERENT ways of doing things or more time to think of different ways, I instead always have the opportunity to beat anything THE SAME way.

for real, I had nothing to do last Monday and played at least 10 hours of this game. It is absorbing my life in a way only Bethesda RPGs tend to do.

It's just so easy to see a thing and say "I'm gonna go there and then stop playing" then get there and see a different thing and say "ok just this one more thing" and it just keeps going like that for hours.

Yeah it was 11pm the other night and I had to be up for work at 9 the next day so I was like, hard cut-off time at 2am when I was gonna quit.

I honestly never noticed that dungeons even had music?

Also, as far as dungeon bosses go, Gerudo's was so shocking(heh) after the joke that was the other three. I did it last and walked in there expecting to kick it's ass because I was extremely Overpowered by that point, but it kicked my ass until I remembered the rubber armor set bonus lol. It was easily the hardest boss in the game, but it kinda made me sad realizing the untapped potential of the other bosses.

When I got to the Thunder blight in my early Hyrule Castle rush I couldn't handle it. All other bosses I could at least tank a hit or two and eat up to recover, but Thunder blight would just OHKO me when it goes crazy mode and its attack is really tricky to parry. The fact that it was the last of the blights you fight meant any time I slipped I had to fight all the blights again. :(

But I eventually got it!... then pissed myself at the real fight.

Going back some posts

I barely used the Rito power. Goron and Zora are the only ones that I felt helped me really. It's so great when you're getting your ass kicked and you use the goron power and it stuns something while dealing pretty good damage. Then you just wail on it and the predicament is averted. Gerudo saved me a few times when I remembered it though

The issue with Ruta is that the trunk had a lot of different levels that it didn't need. And the layout was a little sillier.

Medoh is very straightforward.

I don't know what you could consider difficult in either of them though.

Rito dungeon was super easy. I feel like I've run into longer shrines.

And now that I see what the skill is, would have been super useful earlier... still expect it to be useful at times (slowmo arrow that Lynel right in the faceeee) but would be a great early game ability.

Decided to go with my plan of doing the Rito dungeon second and headed over to Hebra. Got a shrine and then saw this GIANT RED DRAGON FLYING AROUND and spent 10 minutes chasing it and trying to fight it. What the hell, this game.

I finished the Goron dungeon last night. It had the worst dungeon entry section so far, a big letdown after the Rito and Zora segments were incredibly action-packed. It also had the least exciting bit of "divine beast map manipulation," but I still enjoyed how it was used to solve puzzles.

That said, it did have my favorite boss so far - it actually took me a while to figure out his second phase, and I enjoyed how the dungeon was pitch black at the start and needed you to light it up.

Overall, unless Hyrule Castle blows the roof off (it seems very good from the little exploration I've done in there), BotW will probably wind up having my least favorite 3D dungeons.

Did Goron dungeon last. At the end of the cutscene, Daruk waves to his descendant... poor Zora King didn't get to wave to his dead daughter though

Also, the ONE thing I really wish there was more of was some classic Zelda music. Even if it was just more variety in the songs played by that traveling bard.

And all I can think about is how cool it would be if Nintendo added that type of mode to this world.
With 100 players parachuting but with the parasol, the zoning, the looting and the PvP
Riding around on horses

I would play the eff out of that.

Well, as long as you don't care about telling the dragon where to go...

Also, I feel like Hyrule Castle was great playing it so early on, but I worry that it will be less exciting doing my "official" run now because the tension will be gone from my character being so much stronger and me learning how to play the game instead of being an idiot last time.

oh btw, in case anyone wants to try it later or wants more evidence, I tried the star fragment farming method that's been popularized recently, and it worked five times in a row without fail. My method was:

1. Boot up the game.
2. Make a campfire and sit until night.
3. Warp to the southern Dueling Peaks shrine (the higher one).
4. Adjust your view so that Central Hyrule occupies most of it (Hyrule Castle should be on the far right). Also, the skyline dividing land and sky should be about the middle of the screen.
5. Wait for fragment. No need to move camera once you're set up.
6. Gather fragment. Save. Exit the game (I fully turned off my Wii U) and repeat.

One time, I saw a fragment whiz across the sky the moment I booted up my game - I didn't need to warp to Dueling Peaks or anything. I've also heard that fragments show up between 10:00 - 3:00, but I saw one appear at 9:50, so I'm thinking anytime at night is fair game.

I originally wanted to get the fragments from Silver Lynels alone, but this method was so relaxing that I didn't mind doing it five times.
