I do think age is a weird sensitivity that a lot of people have to dating (again this is shared strongly by all genders). I make a ton of money and girls don't really care much about that, but if I reveal that I am 2-4 years younger than them they are often disgusted. Maybe it's because it's a difference between perception and reality but it still shouldn't be such a big deal.

I just need to get on that Extha 18 year old level...

He was able to remember the "small to moderate", but he transformed the 10% that shows up not even ten words later into 33-50% in his head. He is not being willfully dishonest or ignorant here. His brain literally forced the numbers 33-50% into his head and forced out the 10%.

Of course our memories are unreliable, but this is a very large transformation that Vlado completely unaware of. He was so confident in that 33-50% number that he didn't even go back 1 page in the topic and verify that's what the number was. It's really amazing.

Vlado, if your brain is still turned on by the time you're reading this, how do you honestly expect someone to have a fact-based discussion with you when your brain completely warps clear facts like this so easily (not to mention what happens to the muddier facts)?

But in terms of social value, if whites and males are the majorly privileged classes like they are in our society, then it's a moot point, doesn't really change anything (which is the purpose of a scholarship). It would just be if you want to make a point about white/male supremacy or something, which I obviously think is dumb as hell. This might apply to the whites-only programmer scholarship too.

Ah see but if no whites applied to that programming job, they still need a programmer. That business requirement doesn't magically go away. The business would be forced to fill the requirement somehow. Minorities are inherently in the race in that sense (i.e. at the bottom of the list, but still on the list).

Not so with a scholarship. It exists ONLY to help whatever specific group it is trying to target (whether it be race, gender, country, research topic, test scores, artists, athletes - all of which are very common scholarship targets). If no one from their target group wants the scholarship then... there's no need for the scholarship. It totally vanishes.

Ultimately getting rid of all race/gender based scholarships is the goal in that sense.

AA is far more discriminatory because it is forced onto employers, for example.

No, feminism is based on the idea that there's a kyriarchy (like a patriarchy but for the entire pyramid of oppression) keeping everyone down unless they're cis, straight, white and male. It's a stupid ideology that encourages discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, disability status, etc.

Uh no the kyriarchy is the intersectional part that is about how everyone has privileges and oppressions and they all interact with each other. So obviously straight white cis males have a lot of privileges overall, but it recognizes that there are non-zero oppressions that they face, same with non-zero privileges for minority classes.

But lots of people just completely explode when they hear even the slightest talk of privileges and oppressions though, so you can't ever find a reasonable way to talk with them.

It's really important WHY Littlefinger was freaked out. It's important to know LF learned that Bran could see private conversations in the past and that Bran basically knew all the shit he did and what he is up to. When I first saw that scene I wondered why LF got so freaked out, and there were several possible reasons (it was the first thing Bran said at all in the scene, he interrupted him with a seemingly nonsense phrase, the girl entered the room at the same time, etc) so if you didn't know that it was referencing a previous private conversation about LF's evilness, then you would miss that whole point.

You're right that LF learning that Bran knows everything hasn't come up again and LF is just going on like nothing happened, which is really weird and bad. But that's just 2 bits of bad writing canceling each other out.

That scene as a whole was probably memorable (though I forgot about it) but I don't see what about that line in particular is memorable. It's not emphasized, or scene-ending. "The climb is all there is" would be a better candidate for that reason.

But there's just no way to make any line in that scene "iconic" or anything. The show just wasn't built for those kinds of references, there's too much dialogue and too much variety and jumps across scenes. They should just stick to conceptual references like Arya saying "no one" taught her how to fight.

I definitely think making references to single lines from 50+ episodes ago is not effective storytelling in this show. There is a TON of dialogue and a TON of one-liners. None are so memorable that you can make a clear callback to them YEARS later.

Littlefinger giving the dagger to Bran, that is a solid reference that everyone can figure out even if they only watched S1 one time 7 years ago. But "chaos is a ladder", definitely not.

I guess in the age of the internet you can just look up what the reference was, but that's still weak storytelling. Especially since references like that and Nymeria are ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to understand the scene. It's not like Breaking Bad references where they add an cool layer if you get them, but you don't miss anything important if you don't. Of course, it's absurd to compare this show's writing to BB...
