You have a white HS Football coach that was drunk while driving at night a couple years ago, strikes a young black mother and her daughter killing both of them, leave the scene of the accident, hides the vehicle at his girlfriend's house and waits a few days before turning himself in. They just had his court case this past week and he got 10 years probation, not prison time, probation. He killed two people and tried to hide his car and waited until he sobered up before turning himself in. Now being a HS coach it's safe to say that he is not rich. Now on the flip side we have a black driver, same county, hit and killed two white people while intoxicated in an auto accident. He did not leave the scene. He was declared competent to stand trial last week and they're looking at up to 20 years prison time for each deceased victim. Something tells me this guy will do some prison time. It's telling that these are the examples you use. It doesn't sound like you have much interaction with black people. It was already pretty obvious that your views didn't come from knowing or talking to black people. But if he saw them at a lunch counter not working then they must not have jobs at all. I think what the impoverished black community needs more than anything is a re-adjustment of culture. But they have to change their attitudes toward "whitey" first. We're not trying to keep them down. We're trying to help them. But giving handouts has done nothing but create an attitude of entitlement. What privileged people need to do is come together in unanimous support of impoverished communities. Not necessarily monetary support, but moral support. We need to be active in their lives. We should each be playing a small but important role. To be a good example, and to be kind. We need to make available to them the tools that are necessary for success. And the thing is, I think a lot of this has already been done, but much of the impoverished black community has refused to see it, because their culture has taught them to fight the power, fight the power, and then fight the power some more. They have a serious disconnect with reality. They can't see that those with wealth and power have been trying to help them, even if it's in some misguided way. Yet they still claim the people that are trying to help them are the ones trying to bring them down. I'm rambling a bit, but I digress... The fact is, the impoverished black community needs to reevaluate their culture and their attitudes. And you know what? You're right. That will take at least one generation of extraordinary black people, a generation to set things straight. And I think that generation will be the Millennials. But that is a change that must occur within the impoverished black community itself. There is nothing, or at least not much, that the outside forces can do to help that along. It means that the businesses least suited to offer the best products/services are going to fail and be replaced by better competitors. What this means (and has meant) for consumers is better products/services for less cost. That's why the standard of living has risen across the entire globe, even for the poor people. Your either-or is a false dichotomy. You realize those failing businesses are losers right?
