charmander6000 05/20/17 11:32:25 PM #101 | Change back is still change. Honestly, looking at a bunch of elections and referendum over the past few years one common thing I've seen is that people want change. Whether it's Brexit and Trump or Macron and Trudeau all of those things campaigned for change. Even the election in my province earlier this month had the Green party double in support (still 16% though) because they campaigned for change and now they potentially get to decide who governs due to a minority government. --- Best Year in Gaming - Today's Winner: 2001 Current Bracket Score: 45/52 |

charmander6000 05/20/17 10:50:52 PM #72 | Match XXXIV – Round 4 – 1994 vs. 1998 Previous Results 1994 Round 1: Defeated 2004, 58.69% - 41.31% Round 2: Defeated 2011, 62.02% - 37.98% Round 3: Defeated 1991, 53.38% - 46.62% 1998 Round 1: Defeated 1993, 85.93% - 14.07% Round 2: Defeated 1992, 72.85% - 27.15% Round 3: Defeated 2003, 81.35% - 18.65% Analysis 1998’s quest for the title continued with a crushing quadrupling against 2003. I guess that’s what you get when the first picture is Ocarina of Time/Pokemon Red/Blue vs. Wind Waker/Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire. While 1994 will be a stronger opponent, it is a year with decent anchors and depth 1998 just outclasses the entire field. In terms of pictures 1994 pretty much got its best case scenario. Both Final Fantasy VI and Super Metroid are first and the year got all of its notable games. Of course 1998 leads off with Ocarina of Time and Pokemon Red/Blue meaning they’ll take out 1994’s two strongest games and build a decent lead. Even the second picture appears to be a win for 1998. I feel 1994 will be able to break 30% in this match and it has a decent chance at avoiding getting doubled. I wonder if 1998 will face the same difficulties Sephiroth and Samus faced during the villains and female contest where they underperformed in the final rounds. If so we could see 1994 pull off a respectable performance. charmander6000’s Bracket: 1998 > 1994 charmander6000’s Prediction: 1998 wins, 66.33% - 33.67% --- Best Year in Gaming - Today's Winner: 2001 Current Bracket Score: 45/52 |

Some of us may have been misled about consoles being in the picture, but considering none of them made an appearance in any year it's safe to say they weren't going to make an appearance. In terms of pictures. 1991 may have suffered with Final Fantasy IV being so low, but 1994 was missing Mega Man X and had Sonic & Knuckles low as well --- Best Year in Gaming - Today's Winner: 2001 Current Bracket Score: 45/52 |

You could potentially argue that nine different years have a game that would defeat Melee. This was apparent last round where 1995 almost won despite having relatively low depth, but with a Chrono Trigger that would dominate Melee. While Final Fantasy VII is weaker than Chrono Trigger it would still easily defeat Melee and 1997 has much better depth than 1995. If the picture remains the same I would be very surprised if 1997 lost. I have yet to see the picture for this match, but the best case scenario for 2001 would be if Super Smash Bros. Melee and Final Fantasy X were placed in the number one slot and if Metal Gear Solid 2 makes the picture. While it is unlikely SSBM/FFX would defeat FFVII/Castlevania: SotN it would make the gap small enough for the other games to counter. Of course even with a more favorable picture 2001 winning is not guaranteed. I’ll be going against my bracket in this match. As long as 1997’s top 4 games are in the first two rotation slots it is possibly only one year would be able to defeat it. charmander6000’s Bracket: 2001 > 2000 charmander6000’s Prediction: 1997 wins, 55.12% - 44.88% --- Best Year in Gaming - Today's Winner: 1998 Current Bracket Score: 41/48 |

charmander6000 05/18/17 10:09:14 PM #86 | Match XXXII – Round 3 – 1998 vs. 2003 Previous Results 1998 Round 1: Defeated 1993, 85.93% - 14.07% Round 2: Defeated 1992, 72.85% - 27.15% 2003 Round 1: Defeated 2013, 58.03% - 41.97% Round 2: Defeated 2005, 57.67% - 42.33% Analysis So we end the third round with the strongest game going up against the weakest remaining game. In any other place 2003 would have not reached the third round. While some people prefer games to go out in rounds which dictate their strength I don’t mind a weaker entrant getting out of a weak, but interesting four-pack. Of course 2003 made it out without too much of a struggle, but at least we had a bit of discussion. 1998 has yet to give us a reason for it to not crush the competition, let alone lose. 1992 was a decent year in gaming and it fail to break 30%. You could argue SFF against Link to the Past and the other Nintendo games, but Link to the Past did hold up well against Ocarina of Time during the 2015 contest. The change in picture format is a huge benefit to 1998, while some years struggle to find eight games 1998 can easily rattle off eight games with decent strength on GameFAQs though I guess we still have to make room for Panzer Dragoon Saga for the few Saturn fans. I expect 1998 to outperform its round 2 number. 2003 has terrible depth and Wind Waker is not something you want to have on your side when the opponent has Ocarina of Time. A tripling is very likely and personally I think 1998 should be able to break 80%. charmander6000’s Bracket: 1998 > 2003 charmander6000’s Prediction: 1998 wins, 81.23% - 18.77% --- Best Year in Gaming - Today's Winner: 1994 Current Bracket Score: 37/44 |
